A bit tangential but " A Year With Verona" - Tim Parks is a cracking book about being a fan of a non fashionable team. It captures the highs and lows of being addicted to basically a lost cause.

Thought Tyler Hamilton's book came across as honest, team mate of Lance Armstrong. Confirmed (certainly then) if you don't dope then you don't get a place on the team.

If you like larger than life characters from the gambling world then Gary Wilshere's book 50 years in the betting jungle is a good read as was his first book winning it back.
Harry Findlay's book gambling for life a few years old now but great read if you are into all sports betting.

Beautiful city Verona. I went to the opera festival there 3 times in the 1990's an experience not to be missed if you have any interest in classical music.

'When George Best Played for Fulham' available on Amazon.

Available in paperback and full of great retro photos of George playing for the Whites, together with funny anecdotes, stories, memories and recollections from Fulham legends Les Strong, John Mitchell and Rodney Marsh.
There are also some great memories from players who played against George during his time at SW6 such as Kenny Hibbitt (Wolves) Jim Eadie (Bristol Rovers) and Steve Finnieston (Chelsea)
Jim was the goalkeeper for Rovers who played Fulham at the Cottage that afternoon in Bestie's debut game for the Whites which Fulham won with GB scoring the only goal of the game inside 2 minutes!

I really enjoyed the book and it gives a unique insight into George Best the person rather than all the lurid trash the nationals seemed to make up about him which sadly detracted from the truly great player George Best was and still was when he arrived at the Cottage with Rodney Marsh from America.

Recommend the book.

Yep..visited the opera there... it's a great city...you can jump on the train & have lunch in Venice or be on the lakes in about 45 minutes.....Verona itself is a very lovely walkable city...& the opera is spectacular...they also have a Shakespeare season

Great centre forward and a cracking book . I remember him scoring a fantastic goal for Mansfield at Walsall in 1992. As you say as hard as a nut. Brilliant memories - thank you for jogging my brain
