West Ham United picked up a vital victory on Wednesday as they overcame Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

When reviewing the footage, Hackett exclusively told Football Insider that Matt Donohue should have awarded a penalty for the incident.

He said: "The defender has made his body shape bigger, and his actions are clearly aimed at stopping the ball.

"It is a deliberate action, and a penalty kick should have been awarded."

What are West Ham's current chances of survival?
Former Premier League chief executive Keith Wyness has previously told Football Insider that Crysencio Summerville will be sold by West Ham if they are relegated to the Championship this season.

However, the attacker gave the Hammers a massive chance of avoiding this fate with a massive goal on Wednesday.

As a result, West Ham are now in the relegation zone solely on goal difference, and are just one point off Tottenham in 16th place.

Marco Silva risks Premier League ban after calling out VAR John Brooks in furious rant
Video assistant referee John Brooks helped overturn a penalty in Fulham's favour against West Ham after an incident involving Tom Cairney and Taty Castellanos in the box

Marco Silva could find himself in hot water after suggesting that John Brooks is biased against Fulham following a controversial decision in their defeat by West Ham on Wednesday night. The Hammers claimed a crucial 1-0 win over their London rivals at Craven Cottage, leaving Silva furious.

Crysencio Summerville scored the game's only goal in a tight game, but Fulham were unhappy after Brooks overturned a penalty decision in their favour. Referee Matt Donohue awarded a spot-kick for a foul by Taty Castellanos on Tom Cairney inside the box in the 49th minute, when the score was still at 0-0.

However, Donohue overturned his original decision after being sent to the pitchside monitor by Brooks. It was deemed that Cairney had in fact kicked Castellanos. Donohue announced: "After review, Fulham 10 kicks the back of West Ham 11. Therefore, my final decision is a free-kick to West Ham."

Speaking after the match, Silva conceded that his side were far from their best without star player Harry Wilson, but couldn't help but call out Brooks for his influence on the game.

"For many different reasons, first of all for the result and we lost the game. Definitely didn't deserve much more from the game and so many incidents that dictate the result the result this evening," Silva told BBC Match of the Day.

"For me, it's clear firstly to talk about ourselves and the goal we conceded we gave a goal basically at this level if you want to win football matches you cant. And of course after the incident the referees decision were at a very low level in my opinion.

"Not at the level a game like this one, decisive games in this moment in the season should be and have the impact of VAR. And John Brooks with Fulham Football Club, he was on VAR and he was able to decide against the referee decision on the pitch is unbelievable.

"It has been a little bit the story of our season when John Brooks is involved with us. It was very unlucky again with the decision when he was not on the pitch, a decision that he took in the office looking for the decision.

"Many, many incidents that the game can be in our direction. Even the penalty, I repeat again John Brooks took and decided against the on-field decision. Very difficult to understand mistakes in games against ourselves, but it is what is is. We have to respect. We have to do it. We cannot control. All the decisions, they were against us."

West Ham's goal came through a mix-up between Bernd Leno and Calvin Bassey and the away side needed goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to make some crucial saves to earn the points.

Div 1 Champs 25 years on: March
To commemorate the 25 year anniversary of Fulham's 2000/01 title winning season, at the start of every month we will look back on how Jean Tigana's side fared this time quarter of a century ago.

After a tricky February, Fulham returned to form in March with 10 points from a possible 12.

It would have been 12 from 12 had we enjoyed a little more fortune in our meeting with promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers in the first game of the month. A fine Barry Hayles goal was cancelled out by a long range Per Frandsen free-kick – their sole shot on target of the game – in a 1-1 draw, but on another day we would not have hit the woodwork twice and had three efforts cleared off the line. "In footballing terms, they are way above everybody else," Bolton boss Sam Allardyce confessed.

There was a bad tempered end to the game, though, when Luis Boa Morte was shown a red card for his reaction to being hacked down by Robbie Elliott. The winger featured in our next two matches as he appealed the suspension, but a three-game ban beckoned thereafter.

Next up, we secured our first league double for 70 years over Queens Park Rangers. After Lee Clark's shot hit the bar, Steve Finnan kept the pressure on until he was chopped in the box, with Louis Saha converting the penalty. We didn't seal the victory until right at the end, but it was a goal worth waiting for as Boa Morte split the defence with a wonderful pass, with Clark coolly passing it first time into the corner.

Another 2-0 London derby victory followed, this time at Crystal Palace's cabbage patch of a pitch at Selhurst Park. A Boa Morte effort in either half did the damage, stabbing home through the bog following intricate play from John Collins and Clark, before a neat first time finish after getting onto the end of Finnan's through ball.

One player we did not see in March was Fabrice Fernandes, following the early termination of his loan from Rennes. Jean Tigana shed the following light on the situation: "For me, Fabrice is a very good player, but he is not a team player, and this was his big problem. I am very disappointed for the team and for him, because he had so much potential, but he must respect the collective. In Rennes, he had a similar problem and they thought I may be able to change his philosophy and make him play for the team rather than himself. In this respect it is my failure, because I could not change the man. I gave Fabrice many chances to change over the last three months, but in the end it was more important that I protect the team and not one player."

Fernandes joined Rangers instead, and wasn't at all bitter regarding the manner of his departure, telling journalists: "Rangers is a better move for me than Fulham. They may be guaranteed a place in the Premiership next year but will need to adapt. Rangers are already at the top level."

An international break followed – one which saw Sean Davis make his England Under-21 debut – and so Tigana used the opportunity to take the group to his homeland for a 5-a-side tournament in Marseille. After drawing 4-4 with a Zvonimir Boban-inspired AC Milan only to lose 3-2 on penalties, Fulham were pitched against hosts Marseille in a third-place play-off. We won that 7-3, before concluding the trip by beating the same team 2-1 in an 11-a-side friendly, with Peter Moller and Saha on the scoresheet.

Back in the UK, the month concluded with a comprehensive 4-1 victory in Tranmere in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Friday night. Saha scored either side of efforts from Hayles and Clark, with Rovers grabbing a consolation at the death through Simon Osborn. It was a result that put us a whopping 17 points clear at the top of Division One.

TC: Not at our fluent best
Tom Cairney was left frustrated that Fulham could not continue our upward momentum against West Ham United on Wednesday evening.

A tight game was settled in the second half when Crysencio Summerville capitalised on a miscommunication in defence, bringing an end to our three game winning run.

"It was quite scrappy," Cairney admitted. "A lot of unforced errors on the ball, but there wasn't much in it, to be honest. A mistake from ourselves decided the game really. I thought we were the better team overall, but obviously not at our fluent best.

"I think they defended very well, they're playing well at the minute and fighting for their lives, at the same time we couldn't find much rhythm. We created a little bit, could've had a penalty.

"It's disappointing for us massively because it feels like three steps forward and then a couple back."

Cairney won a penalty early in the second half when Taty Castellanos got between him and the ball as he went to shoot, but the referee overturned his initial decision after a VAR review, deeming Cairney to be the aggressor.

Asked if he thought it should have been a spot-kick, TC was in no doubt.

"Yeah, because if he's not there, I score. He's not got the ball, I haven't tackled him. He gave a free-kick for Josh King for exactly the same thing on the edge of the box, he gave a foul to us where Josh King kicks him when he's about to shoot.

"The same thing happens to me inside the box, the ref gives a penalty, and then VAR try and find something, send the ref over to the screen, and make him make another decision. That's what happened, but if [Taty] isn't there, I score. I'm not tackling him."

Fulham interest in Valentino Lazaro causing panic – Rush on for transfer
Valentino Lazaro is going through a resurgence of sorts at Torino. The wing-back has now emerged as a possible target for Fulham.

The Austrian first attracted attention when he joined Inter Milan from Hertha Berlin in 2019. He largely failed and was then loaned to Newcastle United, Borussia Monchengladbach and Benfica.

Since 2022 – initially on loan, Lazaro has found home at Torino. He has played 126 times in all competitions, assisting 17 times.

His contract in Turin runs out in the summer and this is attracting attention from Fulham.

Fulham interest bothering Torino
Calciomercato IT report on the 29-year-old, making it clear that Lazaro is of interest to many clubs. One of them is Fulham, with AS Monaco also in the chase.

The versatile wing-back has made quite an impact in Turin. The club's owner Urbano Cairo values his skillset and contributions. Il Toro believe Lazaro can provide some more seasons at the highest level.

Cairo is keen on tying the Austrian down to a new deal but time could be running out. Fear over a free transfer is growing.

Fulham and Monaco interest is a worry, especially if the right-footer is interested in a return to England.

Throughout his career, Lazaro has played a variety of roles on the right. This season, he hasn't just played at right wing-back but also at left wing-back.

Aston Villa and Everton are reportedly keen on signing 28-year-old Fulham winger Harry Wilson in a bargain deal in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Harry Wilson is the subject of interest of Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Fulham winger has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.

Marco Silva has been impressed by the early career of his Southampton counterpart Tonda Eckert ahead of the clubs' upcoming Emirates FA Cup tie.

The Saints head coach role is 33-year-old Eckert's first senior position, and he currently has them sitting just outside the top-six following a nine match unbeaten run across all competitions.

Manchester United are now showing an interest in signing Fulham defender Samuel Amissah in the summer, with the 18-year-old out of contract at the end of the season, according to journalist Mike McGrath.

United have focused a large portion of their recruitment policy on bringing in some of the best young talents from around the world, hoping to develop them into players capable of playing for the senior squad or selling them on for a profit.

The likes of Chido Obi, Diego Leon, and Ayden Heaven have all arrived through the door at Old Trafford for minimal fees, with United recruiting with more of a long-term plan.

Even though the Red Devils will likely be looking to improve their senior squad in the summer, we could also see them continue their policy of signing younger talents.

Manchester United and their supporters will need to remain patient if they continue with their strategy of signing young talent from around the world.

A positive for United supporters is that they are also signing ready-made players for the first team. Last summer, the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were brought to the club, giving them an idea balance with their recruitment.

Tamara said: "International Women's Day is immensely important to me personally and I am proud of how it has grown into a global celebration of our achievements as well as a call to accelerate action on global equality.

"As a follower of women's football while the sport was banned by the FA, the continued progress of the women's game, with so much more girls football available in schools, is superb. As well as being a season ticket holder in row one of the Johnny Haynes' Stand and following Marco Silva's side across the country, I watch our wonderful women's team home and away as much as possible. Our inspiring team are pushing for a second successive promotion and I encourage everyone to go and watch them.

I have so many female footballing heroines. One is the trailblazing Rachel Yankey, which is why presenting the Trust's trophy named in honour of England's first professional female footballer to Stella Gandee Morgan was so special. I'm so pleased by Stella's progress this season at a higher level, it isn't a surprise.

I am in awe of lifelong Fulham fan and former Fulham FC Women's captain Mary Southgate for her efforts to get the women's team to this point and her work as a PE teacher. It is a testament to Mary, a Hammersmith End season ticket holder since she was a child, that so many girls she has taught are playing the game along her while she shines at Ashford Town.

One of the unsung heroines is the FSA's head of the women's game, Deborah Dilworth, who has been a player, coach, campaigner and advocate for female fans. She continues to drive change on a national level and it is a privilege to work alongside her. I hope we can take the women's game to the next level and I want Craven Cottage and the beautiful game to welcome everyone.

I was proud to help found the Fulham Lillies, whose vital and vibrant work on behalf of our female fans continues to thrive. Making football more accessible for female fans remains a huge focus of my work on the Trust board and I'd love more women to serve alongside my female Board colleagues Hayley Davinson and Sue Couch."
