Leicester hoping to click with Kamara

Published 23:00 14/03/11

Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara is wanted on loan by big-spending Leicester - as Sven Goran Eriksson takes a new gamble on winning promotion.

The Senegalese star is out of Mark Hughes' side and available, with the Foxes talking about taking him or the rest of the season and picking up his £24,000-a-week wages.

Kamara would be interested in the deal too after having previous experience in the Championship with West Brom - and Eriksson thinks his goals would give his team a final push.

Leicester are still outside the top six despite some heavy spending but landing Kamara ahead of some of their promotion rivals would be a major coup.

Eriksson's side got back on the rails by beating Scunthorpe United last weekend but their shortage of goals in other games has cost them a play-off place – with a push on to sign Kamara in the next few days.

Savage: Fulham incapable of reaching Euro places

15.03.11 | tribalfootball.com

Derby County veteran Robbie Savage feels Fulham can forget thoughts of Europe anytime soon.

Savage, a former Wales star, believes Mark Hughes can best hope for a top ten finish.

"I think what he did with Blackburn, he got them to finish 6th, and got them to Europe was fantastic," he told evertonfc.com.

"Can he do that at Fulham? I'm not so sure. He can definitely establish them as a top 10 club but I think that's as far as Fulham could go."

Fulham's losses double to nearly £17m

Published 23:00 14/03/11

By Martin Lipton

Fulham's reliance on Mohamed Al Fayed became even clearer last night as the club unveiled their losses had more than doubled.

Despite a lucrative run to the Europa League Final that brought in £12.5million, losses went up from £6.9m to £16.9m on the back of player investment under Roy Hodgson and new boss Mark Hughes.

It extends the scale of former Harrods owner Fayed's financial backing for the Craven Cottage club.

He has underwritten the bulk of the club's debts of around £224m, including the latest loss.

The Egyptian-born owner said: "The continued success of Fulham and its eventual financial self-sustainability is my priority."

Despite the financial pressure, captain Danny Murphy is convinced his side can still finish in the top half of the Premier League.

"From now until the end of the season we need to set our standards high to try to finish as far up the table as possible," he said.

"Personally, I really believe we can achieve a top half finish, which I think would be a satisfactory return given the problems we had earlier in the season. So that 's the aim.

"Of course, it will take hard work and commitment, but we're ready for that. We're more or less back to full strength in terms of player availability."

Cottagers recall Etheridge

Last updated: 14th March 2011

Etheridge: Back at Craven Cottage

Young goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has been recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic by parent club Fulham.

The goalkeeper spent less than a week with the Addicks and was an unused substitute in their last two matches.

His loan deal was due to run until April 5 but the 21-year-old will now head back to Craven Cottage to provide cover for Mark Hughes' injury-hit side.

Etheridge has played 18 times for the Philippines and earned his first senior cap against Brunei in the AFC Challenge Cup.

The former England Under-18 shot-stopper started out at Chelsea's academy before moving to the Cottagers.

He is yet to make his Premier League debut and remains behind Mark Schwarzer and David Stockdale in the pecking order.

Al-Fayed committed to Fulham

Cottagers supremo to continue backing club

Last updated: 15th March 2011

Al-Fayed: Committed to Fulham

Mohammed Al-Fayed insists he remains fully committed to Fulham despite posting a £16.9million loss for the last financial year.

The club's coffers were swelled by reaching last season's Europa League final, a run that is said to have earned the west Londoners £12.5m.

However, the club's loses increased by £10m, mainly due to wages and new contracts, and they continue to trade in the red.

Chairman Al-Fayed has dismissed suggestions his commitment could be wavering stating he will continue to invest on and off the pitch.

"As is evident, I remain committed to making investment funds available to achieve our goals both on and off the pitch," Al-Fayed said in a statement.

"The continued success of Fulham and its eventual financial self-sustainability is my priority."

Fulham keeper Stockdale proves himself very decent bloke

15.03.11 | tribalfootball.com

Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale has proved himself a decent bloke.

The People says the England prospect went beyond the call of duty to help a college kid from Leicester who is doing a football documentary as part of a degree course.

Fulham's keeper agreed to an interview, but when the student travelled down to the training ground, he found his microphone didn't work.

Then a second attempt ahead of Fulham's match with Blackburn had to be abandoned because of background noise.

In the end Stockdale agreed to meet up at a motorway service station to get the piece done.

Is that the way to Leicester? Kamara is set to join the Foxes

Sven Goran Eriksson is set to take wantaway Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara on loan until the end of the season.

Kamara has made just 11 appearances for Mark Hughes's side this term, and Leicester boss Eriksson is ready to offer the Senegalese star a way out of Craven Cottage.

Eriksson is in talks with the club's owners over Kamara's £24,000-a-week wages as Leicester bid to secure promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

Although he wasn't prepared to identify the player, the Foxes boss confirmed to BBC Radio Leicester on Tuesday he was chasing a 'big' player, adding: 'We have to take some important decisions regarding that.'

Following back-to-back defeats, Leicester got their season back on track with a 3-0 win at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Relishing the Challenge

Tuesday 15th March 2011

A rare weekend without football will be followed by a trip to Goodison Park on Saturday for Mark Hughes' Team and their loyal followers. Whilst an extended break between fixtures has allowed Hughes' players to fully recover from their winning exploits against Blackburn Rovers, defender Brede Hangeland would clearly prefer to have been playing back-to-back matches.

"Obviously we would have preferred to have been playing in the FA Cup last weekend, but as things were, it was nice to have a weekend off," Brede told fulhamfc.com. "I think it was the first time in my time at the Club.

"It's good in the sense that we recover fully but we want to be playing as many games as last year because it means you're in a lot of competitions, but hopefully this break will enable us to be fully fit for the League games and do well."

Hangeland could be up against former Fulham striker Louis Saha on Saturday evening and the Norwegian international is clearly looking forward to playing at Goodison Park, where Fulham will be hoping to build on some impressive away performances in recent seasons.

"He's [Saha] a good player but then again there's always a good striker on the opposition team when you play in the Premier League so we'll be doing our best as always and we'll see what happens.

Goodison Park is a great place to go and play and there's always a good atmosphere. We've been quite close to winning a game up there in recent years so hopefully we can do that on Saturday.

"I don't really look at the League table that much but we know it's very tight and any points we can get in the bank on Saturday will help us a lot."
