The Doctor

Following on from a chat over on TIFF with a good mate of mine whose newborn daughter has now seen us win three times, it got me thinking.  How did Fulham get on in the three games after you were born?  I'd be massively impressed if anyone could match young AJ's tally of seeing us win in 3 different competitions in your first week-and-a-half on Earth.  And yes, those are her initials (and no, its not coincidence)!

My first three games were a 4-0 away drubbing to Luton, followed by a 2-1 home loss to Swansea and then 1-1 v Bristol Rovers at home.  It was a little over a month before we won.

English Division 2 (old)    Charlton    3-2    Fulham    17-02-1976
English Division 2 (old)    Fulham    2-0    York     21-02-1976
English Division 2 (old)    Southampton    2-1    Fulham    24-02-1976

I see our away form was just as bad back then! We also lost on the day that I was conceived, and we had a ticker tape parade in Fulham on that day. (not for my conception I'll have you know, but the other major event..)
"We won't look back on this season with regret, but with pride. Because we won what many teams fail to win in a lifetime – an unprecedented degree of respect and support that saw British football fans unite and cheer on Fulham with heart." Mohammed Al Fayed, May 2010

I couldn't find it in regards to mine but when i typed in 1987 it came up with this...

"The club nearly went out of business in 1987 and the same year saw the break-down of an ill-advised merger attempt with QPR. It was only the intervention of ex-player Jimmy Hill that allowed the club to stay in business as a re-structured 'Fulham FC 1987 Ltd.' In 1987 the club took part in what was one of the longest penalty shoot-outs recorded - it needed 28 spot kicks to sort out a winner between them and Aldershot following a Freight Rover Trophy match."

Which makes me think the first three games I went to were probably something like lost, drew, lost or L, L, L...

Also looking through fulhams history It seems that the same things seem to pop up again and again...

In 1987 apparently we tried merging with QPR, later on we ended up ground sharing with QPR, and a few other regularrities popped up too.

Naturally the three games after my birth were ALL WINS . Three games before ALL WINS.

Now you see why I am perpetually disappointed in life. Every one has their day. Mine was before I could bloody talk.

Sept 3rd 6-2 H Sunderland
Sept 6th 3-2 H Ipswich
Sept 10th 4-2 A Lincoln C

Started the 58-59 Season with a 12 match unbeaten record in Division 2. Promoted that season.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I was born on June 30th so a bit of a wait for my first fixtures which were;

English Division 2 (old)     Fulham    1-0    Bristol C    10-08-1968
English Division 2 (old)    Aston Villa    1-1    Fulham    17-08-1968
English Division 2 (old)    Fulham    0-0    Hull          21-08-1968

We'd just been relegated from the old Division 1 and ended up getting relegated again. Prepared me well for what is to come what was to come.
