Fulham reject Monterrey bid for Salcido
by DAN on MAY 28, 2011

Rumours that Salcido would be returning to his homeland this summer were sparked by Mark Hughes' revelation that Salcido's home had been burgled and that the defender's family had gone back to Mexico after failing to settle in England. South American publications had reported interested in Salcido from Chivas, Pachuca and Monterrey but Fulham appear keen to keep hold of Salcido, who only moved to Craven Cottage last August from PSV Eindhoven.

Monterrey released a short statement today, saying:

We inform you that we have received a response from Fulham Football Club of England, declining our offer to sign Carlos Salcido.

Salcido has had a tough introduction to life in the Premier League, struggling at first with the pace of game. After a brief spell out of the side, Salcido return to the team and delivered much improved performances towards the end of the season. He was left out of last Sunday's 2-2 with Arsenal.

Fulham linked with Benfica playmaker

Fulham are considering a swoop for Benfica playmaker Felipe Menezes, according to the Brazilian's agent.

Menezes, 23, is considering his future at the Estadio da Luz after struggling to hold down regular first team place at the recently deposed Portuguese Liga champions.

Menezes' agent Luiz Carlini has travelled to London to attend the Champions League final at Wembley and will talk to Fulham officials during his short stay in England.

"Fulham want Felipe and there's a possibility the move could happen," Carlini told Portuguese newspaper A Bola. "Felipe wants regular football and the Premier League is a big option.

"Fulham are an interested club which I've learned already. Let's see. We have already been contacted by several clubs, but England would be an interesting option."

The Cottagers are thought to want Menezes on a one-year loan with the option to buy.

Etheridge eyes Fulham future
by DAN on MAY 28, 2011

Speaking ahead of his international duty with the Philippines, young goalkeeper Neil Etheridge says he's hoping for a big future with Fulham.

The academy graduate, who has recently become his country's number one in their bid to reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has been encouraged by his conversations with Fulham's management team. Etheridge has been named on the substitutes bench a couple of times during the 2010/11 season when Mark Schwarzer has been injured and says he hopes to build on that in the years to come.

They think I have a lot of push toward the future. I'm still young for goalkeeper. A lot of goalkeeper playing in the mainstream are 25, 26 or older than that so you can imagine that I have a long time to wait.

I don't wanna push myself too much to start causing arguments ... There's always a time for things. So far I'm taking the right steps at the right time.

Fulham lead chase for DJ

Fulham boss Mark Hughes is leading the scramble to sign Blackpool hotshot DJ Campbell – for a cut-price £1.2million.

Sunderland and Bolton also want Campbell – who netted 13 goals in the top flight – but it is believed the striker would prefer a return to west London, where he sprang to fame as an FA Cup giant-killer with Yeading and Brentford.

Hughes is also ready to snap up young American defender Mobi Fehr – and send him out on loan to Scandinavia.

EXCLUSIVE: Bruce wants Brum and Blackpool pair for Sunderland

Sunerland boss Steve Bruce aims to make relegated duo DJ Campbell and Seb Larsson his first captures of the summer.

Bruce will step up his interest in Blackpool striker Campbell and Birmingham winger Larsson, who is available on a Bosman, this week.

But the Black Cats boss will face fierce competition for Campbell, 29, who scored 13 goals last term.

Bruce, who signed him as Birmingham boss from Brentford for £500,000 in 2006, has been alerted by the fact that the striker has a £1million buy-out clause in his contract.

FULHAM TO SIGN TEENAGER BURN

Teenage defender Dan Burn will join Fulham from Darlington in the summer for a record-breaking transfer fee.

The 18-year-old centre-back, who has agreed a three-year deal at Craven Cottage, will move for an initial six-figure fee which has not been disclosed by the clubs, but is reportedly higher than the non-league record of £260,000.

The Quakers, who are through to the FA Trophy final, stand to net over £1million in total for the defender, depending on his development and appearances for the Cottagers first team.

Burn, who had been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Everton and Newcastle, is the second Darlington player to move to Fulham in recent years following goalkeeper David Stockdale's switch in 2008.

Quakers chairman Raj Singh was delighted to sew up the move.

He told the Northern Echo: "This represents a fantastic bit of business for Darlington and we're delighted for Dan that he's joining a top, Premier League club.

"Mark Cooper wanted to make sure Dan joined the right club and he kept me informed of all enquiries, ensuring we got the best possible deal while also looking after the player, so he deserves a lot of credit for that.

"I'd also like to thank Dan's parents for the way they've handled themselves. They allowed us to handle the deal without getting involved and trusted us to make sure it was right for both the club and the player.

"Dan will join Fulham at the end of the season and, naturally, we wish him our luck in what we hope and believe is the beginning of a very successful career."

Burn attracted top-flight attention despite having notched up just 19 appearances for Darlington since making his debut back in December 2009.

The teenager came into first-team reckoning in January as a stand-in for regular Adam Quinn, who is cup-tied for FA Trophy games.

Blackburn move for Valencia winger

Blackburn boss Steve Kean is in talks with Valencia winger Vicente.

The 29-year-old is leaving the Mestalla after 11 years and the free agent fancies a move to England.

There has been tentative interest from Fulham, but Blackburn are the only club making serious moves.

DJ keen on capital return

Fulham are reportedly leading the chase for Blackpool striker DJ Campbell, who could be available for around £1.2million.

The 29-year-old striker, who netted 13 Premier League goals this season as the Seasiders lost their brave battle to beat the drop, has also been linked with Bolton and Sunderland.

But The People claims Campbell would prefer a return to his London roots, having been born in Hammersmith. He previously played for Stevenage, Yeading and Brentford.

QPR could also be a possible destination but Mark Hughes is understood to have stolen a march on his transfer rivals.
