I have tried many things to get some of my rather mellow Canadian clients to show some emotion and until now (the Stanley Cup) I have only managed to get them slightly emotional when I suggested they should become the 51st state of USA so they wouldn't have to pay so much in taxes. No good answers, but a lot of good swearing ensued.

The Laker and the Red Wings fans need to point out to them that you are supposed to trash your city and, essentially, be drunk and lawless AFTER YOU WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

...the Canucks are fairly cross they lost then?

I would be. They are an excellent team I thought for sure they would win after they rolled my Sharks. Bruins took it to them. I was surprised how many friends were supporting the Bruins. I am West Coast guy and love Vancouver so I was hoping the Canucks would win but they ran into a buzz saw.

An absolute embarassment to the sport. No excuse for that ever. The worst part is that it wasnt just a few select hooligans looking for trouble, these were actual fans decked out in Canucks gear terrorizing their own city.

Lakers fans yes, Wings fans no, I do not believe we have rioted in the city in quite some time, The 1984 World Series if memory serves me right. (Unless you count those neanderthals at Michigan State)

We've got four NBA championships in San Antonio, and there's not been any trouble after the match nor in the celebrations along the river afterward. I attribute that to our annual fiesta, which is basically a two week civic alcohol binge. The people have learned how to get drunk in public and enjoy themselves without going overboard, and our police have learned how to keep happy drunk people from becoming unhappy drunk people.

Child, respect your elders.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Haha the classics never go out of style.

I know your were by no means accusing us of rioting, but somebody has to stand up for our beleaguered city. Especially the youth who had nothing to do w/ its downfall and yearn for its rise from the ashes. Changing the mentality and view from the outside is just one way to help.

I always cheer for the robust health of American cities. I must say that the recent international didn't do much for the city. The imported turf was god-awful and the (apparent) decision to keep it dry really ruined the ability for either side to show any skill.

But I'm going to stop before I'm accused -- perhaps rightfully -- of piling on. My city is close to twice as big as yours and while yours has major league sides in all four major sports, ours only has one.

Despite the poor pitch, the recent international did wonders.I believe we had 28000+ supporters at the match, the largest amount for a week day gold cup match not including mexico since 2003. Helping us gain creditability for our build push for a MLS franchise, for which the prospective ownership group as submitted to the league office along with its radical changes to the Pontiac Silverdome. http://www.mlive.com/soccer/index.ssf/2011/06/with_eyes_on_detroit_silverdome_owners_submit_mls_expansion_bid.html http://www.mlive.com/soccer/index.ssf/2010/08/tear_the_roof_off_unique_plans_to_turn_silverdome_into_concert_hall_indoor_sports_arena_soccer_specific_stadium_to_lure_major_league_soccer.html

Yes, we know all about MSAs.

Also, you'll never know just how much we mourn being so far way from Toledo and Flint.
