SWANSEA are ready to cash in on Eidur Gudjohnsen's Fulham exit.
The Iceland striker, 32, has had a one-year contract offer withdrawn following Martin Jol's appointment.

But it means Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers can now move in with a free deal for the ex-Barcelona star who he worked with at Chelsea.

Gera's return to West Bromwich dashed by knee injury
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 11:29 PM on 10th June 2011

Zoltan Gera's move from Fulham to West Bromwich could be off after a medical showed a partial tear to his knee ligaments.

The Hungarian, 32, was hopeful of returning to The Hawthorns on a free transfer agreed while Mark Hughes was Fulham manager.

Injury setback: Zoltan Gera faces two months out. However, new Craven Cottage boss Martin Jol is keen to offer Gera a place in his squad.
Medical tests showed the forward would face a two-month lay-off.

Prem pair track Obinna - Report

Premier League rivals Fulham and Stoke are reportedly battling it out with Napoli to sign former West Ham forward Victor Obinna.

Obinna, 24, has left the Hammers following their relegation into the Championship.

The Nigeria international failed to secure a regular first-team place at Upton Park following his season-long loan from Inter Milan and is keen to get his career back on track.

Tony Pulis is looking to strengthen his squad during the summer and was impressed with the performances of Obinna when he featured in the Premier League last season.

But he faces stiff competition from Napoli who have also been strongly linked with the talented forward, while new Cottagers boss Martin Jol is also understood to have registered an interest, with the three clubs battling it out to clinch his signature over the next few weeks.

Jol Expressing An Interest In Nolan

Newcastle midfielder Kevin Nolan could be set to leave St James’ Park, according to The Sun.

New Fulham manager Martin Jol looks set to make a move for the 28-year old who has stalled on a contract extension at Newcastle.

Club captain Nolan moved to Newcastle from Bolton in a £4 million deal in January 2009. He has made 91 appearances for the club scoring an impressive 30 goals on the way and was the club’s top scorer last season. Newcastle are believed to want £6 million for the midfielder.

West Ham are also in the race for the player with new boss Sam Allardyce keen to be reunited with his former captain at Bolton. The recently-relegated club had a £3 million bid rejected earlier this week.

Nolan could be one of several high-profile departures from The Magpies this summer with Joey Barton and Alan Smith set to leave the club whilst outstanding left-back Jose Enrique continues to be linked with bigger clubs. Manager Alan Pardew could be set for major rebuilding of his squad this Summer for the team that finished 12th in last season’s Premiership.

USA Soccer: Clint Dempsey Is Feeling the Love at the Gold Cup

USA Soccer and Clint Dempsey are in a Mutually Beneficial Relationship

Clint Dempsey has had a rough go of things in Europe. He shed some light on this in a recent interview on ESPN.com:

I haven't felt that connection [in Europe] with a manager that when you're going into battle, I'm a guy they look to try to make things happen. It's more enjoyable when you have a manager that believes in you. You feel loved.

He gets to put all of that behind him—for a few weeks at least—as he helps his USA teammates try to capture the 2011 Gold Cup. And that is something he is going to enjoy. Dempsey from the above linked ESPN article:

I feel like I can breathe. ...They (Stevie Nicoli and Bob Bradley) believe in me, and they know I'll run through a brick wall for them, and I do miss that. I haven't felt that way in Europe; I haven't felt that connection with a manager that when the chips are down and you're going into battle that I'm a guy they look to try to make things happen. It's more enjoyable when you have a manager that believes in you. You feel loved.

And so far the process has been not only beneficial for Dempsey, but for team USA. Dempsey played fantastic in the USA's opening 2-0 victory against Canada. He scored the second goal, and just before had a spectacular attempt blocked.

That is when Dempsey almost scored an incredible goal. Dempsey was making a run at the far post when a deflection put a cross behind Dempsey, but it didn't put him off. He jumped for a chest high backheel volley. The shot was on target, but a nice block turned it away.

If Dempsey continues to play like that he is likely going to feel a lot more love from those around him, and have a Gold Cup Championship to go with it.

Revisiting the predictortron

I was very pleased that my predictortron got Fulham’s final points tally about right (it said 47; Fulham got 49).

So I thought I’d run it on the entire division to see what happened.  This assumes I’d run it at the start of the season, incidentally – no hindsight tweaks.

The points were all off a bit – nobody guessed that this would be the year when top teams struggled and bottom teams won – but the rankings aren’t too bad.

The misses:

WBA – without Hodgson’s messing I think this might’ve been okay
Newcastle – predictortron thought they’d struggle more, but it’s a credit to Chris Hughton and Alan Pardew’s work that the spreadsheet was so confounded
Birmingham, West Ham, Sunderland – Birmingham messed up, West Ham got relegated with a team of internationals, Sunderland I’m not sure what happened.  Predictorton should’ve been better, but to be fair, they’ve been quite cack for a while.
Blackburn sacked Big Sam. Nothing predictortron could do about that.

Overall: not bad.

Pantsil unsure of future
Defender set to leave Fulham and has been linked to Leicester

Fulham defender John Pantsil has revealed that he is in the dark as to where he will be plying his trade next season.

The Ghana international has fallen down the pecking order at Craven Cottage over the past 12 months and rarely featured under Mark Hughes.
He is now set to leave the club this summer despite Hughes' departure as manager, with Martin Jolcoming in to take charge.

Reports emanating out of Africa suggest Pantsil has been identified as a target for Championship side Leicester.
Pantsil is not sure what will happen in the transfer window but expects to secure a move to a good club.

He told skysports.com: "I am a free agent, I have some contacts and will see what I will do in the future.

"I know I will be playing my football next season at a good club.

"I am 29 years old so let's see."

Knee injury scuppers Gera’s West Brom move
by DAN on JUNE 10, 2011

Zoltan Gera’s planned return to West Brom has been thrown into doubt after a medical uncovered a medial knee ligament tear.

The Hungarian captain had been expected to be reunited with Baggies boss Roy Hodgson, who took him from the Hawthorns to Fulham in 2008, in a free transfer that had been finalised whilst Mark Hughes was still in charge at Craven Cottage. But the results of a medical – and a suggested minimum recovery time of two months – mean that the deal may now be off.

In a further twist, Martin Jol is reportedly keen to keep Gera, who starred during Fulham’s run to the Europa League final in 2010, at the club.

Jol keen on Kranjcar
by DAN on JUNE 10, 2011

This very thinly-sourced – and probably hopelessly unreliable – account links Fulham with a £6m move for Tottenham midfileder Niko Kranjcar.

The Croatian international was barely used by Harry Redknapp last season and is set to leave White Hart Lane this summer. Spurs turned down a bid from Werder Bremen back in January and Kranjcar has been linked with moves to a number of big-name clubs across Europe. Serie A side Roma have ruled out a move for the 26-year-old, who has also been tracked by Wolfsburg, Newcastle and newly-promoted QPR.

Jol is apparently considering tabling a £6m offer for Kranjcar and aiming to persuade him to stay in London. It might sound a little far-fetched, but then Fulham were linked with him prior to Mark Hughes’ resignation.

Swansea set to swoop for Gudjohnsen
by DAN on JUNE 10, 2011

One impact of Mark Hughes’ departure seems to have been overlooked: the loss of Eidur Gudjohnsen. Fulham have cancelled a one-year deal that Hughes was poised to offer Gudjohnsen had he stayed at Craven Cottage, according to the Sun, and that leaves newly-promoted Swansea in pole position to snap up the Icelandic striker.

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers, who was coaching at Chelsea during Gudjohnsen’s time at Stamford Bridge, is keen to bolster his attacking options by signing the free agent. Gudjohsen might not have found the net for Fulham during his short spell on loan from Stoke, but he was a handy option to have off the bench – although if Jol is planning to sign a couple of younger strikers that may soften the blow.
