Blades hope to hang on to Slew

Slew: Is considering a new contract offer at Bramall Lane

Danny Wilson is hopeful promising striker Jordan Slew will stay at Sheffield United despite interest from Fulham, West Brom and Norwich.

The 18-year-old forward , a youth product at Bramall Lane, is one of the Blades' brightest emerging talents after breaking into the senior side last season, scoring two goals in seven Championship games.

New manager Wilson is keen to keep Slew at the South Yorkshire club after holding talks with the teenager, but has refused to issue him with any ultimatums.

"We've spoken again with Jordan and his agent. Now we're hoping to hear back from them again soon," Wilson told the Sheffield Star.

"We're not going to be asking them to give us an answer by any set time and we're hopeful that we've made an impression on them with what we've said.

"Obviously if Jordan comes back and tells us that he wants to go then that puts things in a different light, but he knows we want him to stay here."

Slew has been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane this summer, with Premier League club Fulham having reportedly made an unsuccessful £500,000 bid for his services. West Brom and Norwich are also reported to be monitoring his progress.

But Wilson feels the youngster, who helped United reach the final of last season's FA Youth Cup, will benefit more from staying at United, where he is guaranteed playing time, than starting afresh at a new club.

He added: "I believe what we've told Jordan and his agent makes a lot of sense.

"I've made it clear that I think he's better off playing games here with us than he is going somewhere else and having to wait for a chance.

"We're hopeful that he'll stay but nothing is ever 100 per cent so I'm not going to lie by saying this is.

"Obviously we want a positive resolution as soon as possible though. I think that goes without saying."
