Fulham Want Max Gradel

Fulham and West Ham are expected to challenge Swansea City for the singing of Leeds United forward Max Gradel. The Ivory Coast international, 23, scored 18 goals last term and was voted Leeds' player of the season.

Gradel's contract expires at the end of next season so unless Leeds can persuade him to sign a new deal, they will want to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free.

He is expected to command a fee in the region of £1.5 million and while West Ham can offer him competitive wages, Fulham and Swansea offer Premier League football.

Meanwhile, Swansea are increasingly confident of pulling off their audacious bid to sign former Spain midfielder Marcos Senna.

Senna is a free agent after reaching the end of his contract at Villarreal and has held talks with Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers about an unlikely move.

Manchester City are still waiting for a concrete offer for Emmanuel Adebayor. Roberto Mancini wants to sell the Togo striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Madrid, but no club has come up with a firm bid.

Chris Hughton, the former Newcastle manager, is in the running to replace Alex McLeish as Birmingham City manager. Hughton had been offered the No 2 job at Fulham by Martin Jol.

With the Europa this season we could face a very busy fixture list. So we'll need some depth but that costs. Jol's a quality coach. We've been a relatively steady ship these last three seasons with one or two big signings and several smaller ones. If you had to trust someone to make good decisions on relatively unknown players Jol's a safe pair of hands.

I tried to be positive. But most of you said you wanted to win something over staying in the Premier. So any hope of ambition or my being positive followed that. I said we should push on in the Prem. I was told we have a small fan base and can expect little improvement in the Prem. Best win someting before we go down. Still if you think that is positive then fine. But don't be shocked when I revert to type.

How many of us had ever heard of Hangeland or Dembele? how many cringed when we bought Pantsil with Zamora to make up the weight as many saw it including me, let Jol  get settled in his job, ignore the rumours, I believe them when I see the player in a Fulham shirt.

He's in advanced talks with West Ham though. I don't know if we can hijack their bid. Clearly worth a punt, great talent.
