Whilst visiting family this weekend, my cousin digs out a few old football annuals and programmes. Whist flicking through one of them from 1959 I came across an article on out very own Johnny Haynes.  There is a nice bit where Frank Osborne (the then Fulham Manager) tells the story of the day Haynes signed as a 15 year old. It's quite a read.

Here are some photos, i've also uploaded a PDF here>

Great stuff, Woolfy. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome aboard the FoF train, by the way.
Finn and Corked Hat, you are forever part of the family.

Thank you very much Woolfy. I hadn't seen this at all before, so this is a "keeper"!   082.gif

No problem chaps, I wonder if the height mark of JH is still carved into one of the walls of the cottage?

Burt

Good stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

I like the shot of him behind the stumps. Clearly a publicity shot, given wicket keepers generally stand well back...

Good spot Burt! He'd definitely be missing some pearly whites if he stayed there, he'd probably get a bat in the face!

Thanks Woolfy (great handle BTW, surprised nobody had nicked that one previously)

Warm welcome to FOF
Always good to come across a new glimpse inside The Maestro's world from all those years ago.

Fulhams greatest ever player.

Thanks, I like many have had it with the trolls and wind-up merchants on TIFF. There used to be some great posters over there, sadly  now it has gone to the dogs and most have left. I too was surprised no one had nabbed that handle, although the Citizen himself was spelt "Wolfie", I spell it the other way as it is actually my name believe it of not!

Great posting Woolfy. Was made aware by Old Brown Shoe. I recently became an old sod very happy when I managed to buy two England schoolboy international programmes from 1950. A certain John Haynes, Edmonton, said to be the smallest ever player to player on the hallowed turf of Wembley, scored 6 goals in a 8-2 win over Scotland. The first time that he really came to the attention of the nation. Oh what memories. How much we owe Tosh Chamberlain for being his best mate!

UPDATE: I send a PDF of this to the club, and got this rather nice reply today, it looks like they are going to feature this in a future edition of Fultime..

Good afternoon Mr Woolf, many thanks for getting in touch.

We would be interested in featuring your scans in a future edition of Fultime magazine if you'd be so kind as to send them through.

We will, of course, mention your story in anything we print.

Kind regards
