Fulham to enquire about Defoe

Having publicly declared he would not leave Tottenham for the north east of England after Newcastle United showed interest, Jermain Defoe could be the subject of a bid by London neighbours Fulham.

Fulham were one of a handful of clubs purported to be interested in the out of favour Tottenham striker back in May and now Fulham's new boss, Martin Jol, is to make enquiries over Defoe's availability and Tottenham's asking price.

Defoe who was publicly criticised by manager Harry Redknapp in the Spring is reported to be wanting to stay at White Hart Lane and fight for a place in the side, however, he could well be tempted by a move across London, should Fulham make a bid for him.

The 28 year old striker is currently in his second spell with Tottenham, having followed manager Redknapp from Portsmouth back in 2009, at a cost of £15.75 million.

Shame its not a more reliable source as i would love this to happen!

Burt

Can't see us stumping up what Harry will ask for, or what Defoe will demand in wages.

Shame - would love to see him here.

I think if anthing has been proven in preseason it is the need for more than two proven premiership strikers in our squad - age aside.

If either AJ or Zamora got Injured we DO NOT have the fire power available to cause defences enough worry.

Defoe would be an incredible signing if the club and Martin Jol could pull it off -especially as he' got soo much in his locker and plenty of goals and pace left too.

In my opinion a player like him is a must - wages could be an issue - but I'm sure MAF could put up to £10 or so million to sgn him... would be less of a risk than Marlet, that's for sure.

Me-ate-Live, innit??

I do not thing he would add anything to our team, he would feel it was a step down for him and would become another AJ.
Who knows how Jol will jump ?? he has the connection.  but he did say he wanted a younger team and Defoe will be 30 next year.

I would not like to see him @ Fulham.

Am I the only one alone in thinking that part of the problem in the games where we have failed to score easily, is that the midfield has been very static? With the exception of Duff, none of them really look to get in behind. Briggs won't as it isn't natural to him, Etuhu won't because he isn't supposed to and Danny won't because it's him that plays in the pass. I genuinally believe once we get Dembele and Dempsey back and integrate Kasami into the team then we will start to create a lot more chances. In general AJ's running into channels and Zamora's movement is very good (RNK the exception), although I would concede we do need another striker for potential injuries/rotation etc. It'd be interesting to see both Zamora and AJ's chance to goal ratio so far in the qualifiers. I doubt it's any worse than one goal for every 2.5 chances.

You are not the only one. I have said the gap between the midfield central two and the forwards has been becoming wider and wider. Take Duff out of the equation and it begins to look like the central strikers have been cut adrift.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Dempsey and Dembele have always been our link players. Interestingly Kasami played behind AJ too, so I believe those three would make a difference. I'd still have Defoe too by the way - the argument above is not a suggestion that I wouldn't have him. He'd play infront of AJ.

MontenegroWhite

It would be fantastic singing, but honestly I don't believe this will happen.

theo

Would be a good signing, but have to agree that it does seem rather unlikely.

LordNelson

The problem is.........

We ain't got no..............money  :dead horse:
"The Right Honorable Lord Viscount Nelson K.B., Vice-Admiral of the WHITE ... Fulham expects that every man will do his duty!"

MJG

They can enquire but that means nothing, I can enquire at my local estate agents about looking at that million pound house i like down the road, does not mean I can cough up the money when needed.

Lighthouse

I doubt we would let anybody know who we were looking at. We clearly need forwards and have done for several seasons. Now we do not even have back up as they have all left. So it has always been a problem.

A good forward or two would make the transfer period a good one. Defoe may fit into that.

Honorable mention for Davies who also does this job exquisitely (better link up player then Dempsey IMO)

FC Silver Fox

Worth a loan, I think. It would give us depth in quality without costing too much.
Finn and Corked Hat, you are forever part of the family.

That would be my thinking as well foxy, would be expensive to buy and value would slide dramitically, could end up in 3 years loaning him out ourselves and paying half his wages to play for someone else ala Bullard.

MrFFC

What a signing this would be if true Defoe is quality
Come on you Whites!! :)
