Question has got to be asked seeing as he's been released on free transfer from Newcastle United - Would you take him at Fulham FC?

Yes
No

Joey Barton on Twitter:

In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act. George Orwell

You can call him a thug, but you couldn't call him a mindless thug.

I don't know what to think of his constant Nietzsche and Orwell quotes - well done for being aware of them, but it does strike me a bit as upper-sixth philosophy class shallow

Definitely. Much like Cantona in this regard.

Probably, although I cut Cantona more slack because he was french, so potentially aware of these things. Plus he was much more mercurial.

For the first time in his life, Barton has some fans on his side, I hope he does not ruin it by trying to be too clever.

He'd be perfect for QPR

Well at least he'd be close to Wormwood Scrubs FC 064.gif

 .. and Hammersmith Hospital  .....

I still recall having to do sports runs around the scrubs, by the canal, mid winter.

tbh, I wouldn't say no to Barton on a freebie, short term contract, as long as the wage demands were good. If he plays up, offload him in January.

I played a few games at the Scrubs, Mr L. We always seemed to get the pitch that was a route march and a cut lunch away from the dressing room. Hackney Marshes were the worst, however. Only played there once or twice but that was enough. All the opposition players thought they were the Kray twins. I think this is where Joey Barton might have learned his trade. :down_under:

Sounds about right.

Unfortunately (or fortunately - whichever suits) my school was right next door to the Hospital, and the scrubs was the other side of that. Always the standing joke that if you ever got in a fight, the winner went to the scrubs and the loser to the hospital. Then again, we gave the Christopher Wren bunch a few thrashings, both on and off the pitch in those days - must have been all that running round that bloody scrubs on winter days. Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall a smelly canal there, but perhaps it was just the stream from the scrubs itself. I see it's called Wormwood Scrubs park now and looks decent, I still recall it being as bleak as the moors though.

Bracken White

I honestly wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole. Far, far too disruptive - I know you have to give people chances - but let's be honest, in reality how many has he had?
Besides all his history - he then continues to indermine his £60K per week employer.
Yes, he's a good footballer - no doubt about that - but so was Bullard. Not for me - Lex Immers far more acceptable!
Stay Fulhamish ~ stay unique

Regarding the whole Barton thing.... Fulham ( or its supporters) has never been a club to welcome in the more thuggish side of the pro game which has over the years held us back a bit. We have been more Gentleman Jim Langley than Bite ya legs Hunter. Apart from brief flirtations with Terry Hurlock and Peter Storey can't really think off many more bad boys in our history.

Michael Brown?

He was one of my all time most hated Fulham players. Couldn't stand him and it was a glorious day for the club when he was sold.

He's just signed for Leeds on a free, so he's found his natural home...

Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton has been "inundated" with interest from Premier League and top European clubs, according to his agent Willie McKay., Yes i would say that if I wanted to get rid of something and make a load of dosh for doing nought.

Newcastle have lost 2 of their bes lyers. Now barton, 2nd half of last season arguably the best English midfielder in the division, and their left back wanting to go.

WHAT ODDS FOR RELEGATION?   Could be a good bet :dft003:

The best English midfielder? Pahahah. Sorry, can't agree on that. There's a big queue ahead of him.

Have a read of his twitter, the lad loves a moan. You can tell he's a Scouser; none of it's his fault blahblah.

Very much doubt he'll come to us - apart from all the character issues I don't think we actually need him, do we?  Besides, if what Gecov's agent said is true and the infamous Fulham medical involves a battery of psychological tests then Barton would probably fail that anyway.

Having said that though if he does go to QPR I'll be miffed.

Agree with this. Ignoring the fact he' acting like a bit of a plum (see last post), we just don't need him. We're not a club that can finance players in midfield when we need other positions filled.

Wasn't he the one who had an office next to Arry's at WHU.... all i/c and o/g transfers had to go through him.

Wonder why that was??

Joey Barton reminds me of the film A Clockwork Orange.

That one made me laugh. I love that movie, however can't say the same for barton. But i understand the point your getting at, easily the best post of this thread

From the Beeb:

1724: FOOTBALL - Joey Barton reveals on Twitter that he has been fined two weeks wages, something he says he will be appealing: "Ha ha the inevitable, 2 weeks wages fine has just arrived. Needless to say it shall be appealed forthwith. #kickingamanwhilsthesdownha"

I wonder what stupid thing he did this time?

I don't think MAF would allow this, if his response to the opportunity to sign Marlon King was anything to go by.
But Marlon King is a sex offender.

The fact there is a four page thread about Joey Barton shows that there is a lot of interest in him (as controversial as it may seem). I bet the story is the same on club message boards across the country. Opinion here is understandably divided but the guy is clearly more employable now than he's been in the last 2 years. Personally I think he has still got a lot to prove, and if he can keep his nose clean he will be bargain of the window for someone. Cue Arry "i've always liked the lad" Redknapp.

Me-ate-Live, innit??

If he becomes a WHITE another cat can have my one and a half season tickets
I would not take the kid to see that scouse degenerated  train crash............
he was on £85,000 per week at Toon and he wanted more ................
When you consider that Modric gets £45, 000 at Spurts
Gillingham would be too good for Barton

The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I agree, his grandstanding is getting really tedious now.

SouthfieldWhite

When Barton was younger whilst at Man Citeh, he played at the Cottage and absolutely ran the show, so his talent has never bern in doubt in my mind, what happened to him after that, it was very stupid of him to do the things he did when in such a privilege situation, whether it was because he had so much money at a young age I don't know, but that's still no excuse

BUT to be fair to him now, he's grown up and he is trying to change the way he was, I'm more concerned about his agent willie McKaye putting one over on us, I'd take Barton the player but not sure about the person yet and if he'd fit into the squad.

Onto hackney marshes and played there a few times, once for fulham supporters v west ham supporters, no one had a decent football and only over teams over there were all Rastfarian teams, every player about 6th 4 and no one had the ball to ask to borrow one until I got nominated to ask, they were fine until after the game when they wanted the ball back but I had no idea who took it

Also the west ham boys jumped into the coldest showers I've ever felt, the fulham boys wernt so keen though, especially with west ham being known as the irons ;-)

SouthfieldWhite

Oh forgot to say, wasn't too impressed when I heard we were signing Terry girlish, but he actually turned into a decent signing, no trouble, nice bloke and what surprised me most, wasn't a bad footballer until that wa**er from Brentford broke his leg
