Zaha being tracked by Stoke and Fulham as transfer window nears close

Ah August, the month of the transfer. The month when every decent young Palace player under the sun gets linked with a move to X Premier League team, because Mr X has been watching them over the past few weeks.

This week it's Wilf Zaha who is facing a few days of speculation - with the trasnfer window slamming shut on Wednesday night at 11pm - with a couple of top flight sides interested.

Stoke and Fulham are reportedly keen on making the 18-year-old an addition to their squads, and depending on who you believe, both have also made bids for the attacker.

Wilf has been in superb form for the Eagles so far this season; changing the game in Palace's favour against Coventry as he set up two late goals, and scoring a brace himself against Crawley in the League Cup to help Dougie Freedman's side progress to the second round.

According to the Daily Mail, Fulham Boss Martin Jol has offered £2.5m for Zaha, while Stoke manager Tony Pulis has also made a bid of a similar fashion.

Freedman, though, is having none of it. "I'm not expecting any new faces before Wednesday, if anything I will be turning my phone off," he said after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Blackpool.

What do you think? Would you accept £2.5m for Zaha?

The Boy Next Door!

After yet another away defeat, although one that in hindsight we could have taken something from, Martin Jol spoke about how a keeper who comes form the same town as him, in Holland, was the villain of the peace, commenting,

"Tim is from my home town. I like him and I think he`s a great talent."

"In Holland, they rate him as one of their top keepers."

"I spoke to him afterwards and said 'Well done`. But I think he was surprised my players gave him a chance with some of them."

Is that Jol`s polite way of inferring our players were not ruthless, or clinical, enough when presented with a scoring opportunity?

Zamora`s Bad Luck Continues!

Out of action courtesy of another injury, Bobby Zamora must be cursing his luck.

Having missed a sizeable chunk of last season, with a bad leg injury, Bobby would have been hoping to sneak his way back into the international set-up he`d just gate-crashed before sustaining the aforementioned leg injury.

Instead he`s once again, forced to watch on from the sidelines knowing that with England short of striking talent a place in Fabio`s squad was there for the taking.

Here`s hoping Bobby`s luck improves soon!

Boss bemoans wasteful Cottagers

Martin Jol bemoaned his Fulham's side profligacy in front of goal as the reason behind their 2-1 Premier League defeat at Newcastle.

The Cottagers chief watched as his players spurned several good opportunities to put the ball in the net at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon, while Magpies keeper Tim Krul was in fine form for the hosts.

Leon Best's double had put Alan Pardew's side two-up before Clint Dempsey grabbed a late consolation for the Londoners.

However, Jol was in no doubt that, had his team taken a fraction of their chances, they would have walked away with 'a better result'.

Jol said: "All credit to the young goalkeeper because he's from my home town. I like him, he's a great talent.

"I thought we were the better team, particularly in the first part of the first-half, but you have to capitalise on that sort of possession.

"You have to score. I think we created eight or nine chances away from home. Then they came out and they scored a goal because we couldn't concentrate.

"We were the better in spells and if we'd have capitalised on that we would have had a better result."

"Hopefully we'll return more fresh [after the international break] but I think we should have had a result here."

Jol to test the market

Martin Jol said he would be trying to beef up his Fulham squad before the transfer window closes on Wednesday in an attempt to kick-start the season (Fulham 7/1 – bet365 To Be Relegated).

The Cottagers slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle on Sunday to remain without a win from their opening three games of the new Premier League season.

The big Dutchman suggested his paper-thin squad was being stretched to capacity after what was Fulham's 11th game of a demanding campaign to date and revealed he was in the market for an injection of fresh legs.

The west Londoners lacked teeth without injured talisman Bobby Zamora (100/1 with bet365 – Leading Goalscorer) and Jol said he would be trying to create competition for places.

He said: "You don't have to be great at mathematics to realise that if nine players have left the club and four have come in, you need some players."

Assaidi tells Villa and Fulham: I want to stay in Holland

Aston Villa and Fulham target Oussama Assaidi wants to stay in the Dutch League with Heerenveen.

The 23-year-old forward has scored two goals in his first four Eredivisie games this season, drawing attention from the Premier League pair as well as big-spending PSG and FC Twente.

But the Morocco international is not interested in a move. He told Netherlands newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: "There is nothing concrete on my sale. It is just newspaper talk

"For me, it would be better to stay here because I'm still young and then improve in a top-class league."

Juventus Defender Signing?

Martin Jol has already heavily hinted that there is an urgent need to strengthen his squad.

The requirement to do so is even more evident when you count up how many have left Craven Cottage this summer and how many have come in.

With the transfer window set to slam shut this week, Jol will need to move fast.

But it appears, if the grapevine is correct, that Jol has identified one target and that target could be on his way.

The player in question is Zdenek Grygera

Zdenek Grygera is a Czech international who can play at centre back or right back.

He`s thirty one years of age and is currently on the books of Juventus having made over 100 appearances for the Turin side.

Previous clubs include Ajax, Sparta Prague, Petra Drnovice and FK Svit Zlin

We await any confirmation that the move has been done and dusted.
