Back Dempsey to mark milestone with goal
Clint Dempsey has scored 4 goals in his last 5 games against Blackburn and has odds of 11/2 to break the deadlock today.

As the golden statue of the King of Pop stares forlornly beside a Craven Cottage that has had little to cheer about this season, the stadium's inhabitants Fulham might "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" just like Jacko.

With just one goal in three games so far this season, Fulham's fortunes are in stark contrast to their celebrated 2010/11 campaign, but the visit of Blackburn Rovers brings hope given the home side has scored in every fixture the teams have played at the Cottage since 2004.

Indeed, these two sides haven't played out a goalless draw dating back to 1997, with 15 goals in the previous five encounters, and this points towards there being plenty more on Sunday.

One player who thrives in this tie is Clint Dempsey, who has netted four in five against Rovers. Therefore it would be a poignant personal tribute for the American to score on a day that his homeland reflects on 9/11. He is priced at 8/5 to score at any time and looks the Cottagers' best bet as their lone goalscorer for the fledgling season.

If you're feeling a bit bolder, then backing him at 11/2 to be the first scorer will net you £162.50 from your £25 free bet, which is available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.

Considering that Blackburn allowed in more second half goals than any other team in 2010/11, backing Dempsey to be the game's last scorer at the same oods also pays dividends.

However, the form book points to a slow start for the Londoners. Last term Fulham conceded 26 goals of their 39 overall in the opening 45 minutes, while the Yorkshire visitors allowed in just 15 in the same time-frame.

With that in mind Blackburn are not to be discounted and it could be an unlikely source that gets them off the mark on the road. Congolese star Christopher Samba simply relishes these match-ups and the towering 6 ft 4 ins defender has been the first scorer on two occasions against the Cottagers. He is attractively priced as an outside punt, coming in at 18/1.

While prolific compared to other defenders in the Premier League, given that he has just 14 goals to his name since his move to England in 2007 a safer bet would be on Samba to score at any time at 51/10.

BLACKBURN BOSS TO COME AWAY FROM FULHAM FEELING JOLLY

Post transfer window matches can throw up surprises as players and squads settle down and none more so than Steve Kean will hope his side can cause an upset at Craven Cottage.

The pressure has been on the Blackburn manager from day one and without a win he will need to get some points on the board soon. Blackburn have never lost their opening four league games, and as one of only four clubs to have won the Division it's a testament to how far they have fallen.

Fulham have brought in 31-year-old Zdenek Grygera and the £10.6m Bryan Ruiz, which could turn out to be a very shrewd gamble. The Costa Rican has scored 33 goals in 61 league appearances for FC Twente and looked quite handy at the Copa America. Steve Kean was also busy, he picked up the highly rated David Goodwillie and the Montenegro international Simon Vukcevic. So there is a level of uncertainty about both sides which could create an exciting encounter.

Craven Cottage is no stranger to last minute drama. Theo Walcott saved Arsenal's blushes last season with an 89th minute strike to help salvage fourth place for the Gunners. Also last season Fulham managed to get a draw against Man Utd with an 89th minute strike. So we are offering another superb Match Winner were we are enhancing the price of any goal to be scored in the last 10 minutes from 6/4 to 7/4.

The home side are understandably favourites at 4/6 to come away with three points. This will be their 12th match of the season, which has included Europa League games. Blackburn are 9/2 to take all points but it must be noted that although they have lost their last two games at Craven Cottage, they are the only two of their last 10 games that have ended in defeat.

Yakubu is going to be a big target for Rovers if he starts, this is probably the biggest gamble on the pitch. If he can recapture his form pre 2008 when an Achilles injury blighted his career he could be a revelation for Blackburn. The big center forward is 9/1 to score first and 10/3 to bag a goal at anytime.

A new signing also leads the market for Fulham in terms of first goal scorer, Ruiz is a lot shorter at 9/2 to star his Fulham career off the perfect way. You can also back him at slight odds against, 6/5, to score anytime.

This could be a low scoring game, Fulham have only netted once in their last three competitive games, all ended in losses. Blackburn on the other hand have four goals to their name, but three of them came against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carling Cup, so how much of a yard stick that can really be remains to be seen. The unders are priced accordingly at 7/10 for under 2.5 and 9/4 for under 1.5.

For me a handicap draw at 5/2 with Fulham minus a goal looks to be a good bet as I can't see Fulham running away with the game, but I also can't see Blackburn winning.

PREM: FULHAM v BLACKBURN

Fulham manager Martin Jol admits his side need to secure some points from today's Barclays Premier League against Blackburn Rovers.

While Rovers have started the season in poor fashion, losing all the games, the Cottagers have only managed one point from the first three matches.

Jol said: "I feel [the need to win] is probably the same as for the opposition.

"We need the points.

"It doesn't matter where you play, we need points and to get out of a situation where we are bottom of the league.

"All the teams that are there will tell you the same so they will try to win and we will try to get the result."

Jol must be wishing he'd never bothered returning to the Premier League on the evidence of what he's seen so far. The former Tottenham manager has seen his team score only one goal, and he will be praying that his hitman Bobby Zamora will be fit enough to play after an ankle injury alongside new signing Bryan Ruiz.

Early signs are that manager Steve Kean has a monumental battle to keep Blackburn up. Blackburn brought in a few new faces during the transfer window, including the central defender Scott Dann and the striker Yaubu, and has to hope that they will make a positive impact.

In truth though, Blackburn have been desperately unlucky - they squandered not one, but two penalties against Everton and they led at Villa before conceding late goals.

Rovers biggest transfer plus though was keeping Samba to play alongside Dann. Morten Gamst Pedersen and David Dunn are both suffering from hamstring injuries, but Dann and Yakubu should make their debuts for the club and Samba looks set to strat after missing games with injury.

Against Fulham's shot shy team (even less of a threat if Zamora is ruled out) Blackburn's new look defense may be able to keep a clean sheet away from home and give them a platform to build from. Even a point will be enough to save Keane for now, despite news in the People today that unless he wins he is out. That is not what we hear from the Rovers camp.

Keane was given the office to bring in new players, and we believe he will be given five or six games to see how this changes their performances.
