well purely imo  Baird is the best centre back we have, although Hangers would brilliant yesterday he is prone to making some god awful passes, Baird in the air is just supreme how does he jump so high.

Yep. It's not just a question of height. Athleticism, technique, timing, strength, etc. are all important.

Explains why people like Les Ferdinand (you know, the talented one of the family, c.5'11") and Brian McBride (just about 6') were so much better in the air than lamp-posts like Crouch.

For me, the H&H partnership is the best CB partnership we have. Hughes complements Brede with his anticipation, timing and interventions. No-one should be surprised at Baird; the criticism of his early performances at RB were because he was being played in an unfamiliar position, he regards himself as a CB but is happy to play anywhere he's needed. A great professional.

Wind that comment back a few years and see me slagged off!!

If I've got a criticism (and it's minor) it's that Brede should be more of a threat in the opposition box than he actually is.
