Fulham Res. 1-0 Wolves Res.

Tuesday 1st November 2011

A first-half penalty from Tom Donegan was enough to hand Fulham's Reserves three points against a brave Wolves side who played most of the game with ten men.

Tuesday afternoon's Barclays Premier Reserve League match got off to a scrappy start with neither side able to find a way through to goal. However, as the half progressed the Whites started finding space and momentarily the game swung in the favour of Billy McKinley's men.

A lively run from Alex Kacaniklic on the quarter hour mark resulted in the young Fulham winger attempting a chip from 30 yards; unfortunately his effort didn't carry enough power and resulted in an easy catch from Aaron McCarey in the Wolves goal.

Rafik Halliche saw a good headed opportunity sail just wide of the post on 30 minutes after Josh Pritchard delivered a teasing free-kick into the area.

Fulham took the lead on 42 minutes after a wonderful turn and pass from Josh Pritchard in the centre of the park played Kacaniklic clean through the Wolves back line.

With only Aaron McCarey to beat, Kacaniklic side-stepped the Wolves custodian nicely, only to be brought down inside the area by McCarey. The referee had no option but to brandish the red card and point to the spot. Tom Donegan stepped up and sent substitute keeper Aljaz Cotman the wrong way.

The ten men of Wolves started the second-half brightly, and whilst they didn't create much in the way of goal scoring chances, they certainly enjoyed a greater degree of possession than in the opening 45 minutes.

Undeterred by their numerical disadvantage, the visitors continued to play impressively throughout the half and could have netted a late equaliser had it not been for a superb one-handed save from Marcus Bettinelli on 86 minutes.

However, the Whites remained stubborn in defence and where able to ably protect their lead.

Fulham: Bettinelli; Dean (Brister 56), Halliche (Banga 80), Burn, Kavanagh (Banya 63); Pritchard, Harris, Donegan, Kacaniklic; Trotta, Woodrow

Subs not used: Smith, O'Reilly

Sooo... Let's hope Banga and Banya are the real deal, what a duo they would be!
