Dave Cornell given go-ahead to play in Yeovil cup clash at Edgar Street

HEREFORD United will not, after all, be without the services of goalkeeper Dave Cornell for Saturday's FA Cup first round tie with Yeovil Town at Edgar Street.

The on-loan Swansea keeper has been called up the Wales under-21 squad for their match in Armenia next Tuesday.

But the players had, apparently, been required to report for a pre-trip hill-walking session before the match which was going to rule Cornell out of contention for United's cup tie.

With Adam Bartlett still some weeks short of fitness and Russell Hoult ruled out by injury, United had been left with the tricky task of trying to recruit another onloan keeper.

But they were, predictably, encountering plenty of resistance with clubs not wanting keepers cup-tied.

However, some behind-the-scenes negotiations have paid off for United with Wales now allowing Cornell to join up with their squad after Saturday's match.

Prior to the decision to allow him to play, Cornell had been diplomatic about the offthe- field events.

"This stuff that's going on at the moment with next week is not my decision,"

he told his Twitter followers.

"I love playing international football and also for Hereford! I get told where to play and I'm happy enough to play wherever I get put to play!"

While Cornell is a certainty to be on the United team-sheet, two of his loan colleagues will be having an afternoon off.

Steve Leslie, who has extended his loan deal at Edgar Street by another month and will now be with the Bulls until at least December 8, has been refused permission to play by Shrewsbury Town.

And Tom Barkhuizen, United's leading scorer with five goals, will also be sidelined after Blackpool declined to let the teenager become cup-tied.

Leslie and Barkhuizen have been key players in the Bulls' recent good run and their absence will give boss Jamie Pitman a few headaches.

It may mean a chance for James McQuilkin or Kenny Lunt if United retain their preferred 4-5-1 system.

Although, with Yoann Arquin, Delroy Facey and on-loan Fulham teenager Richard Peniket, who scored for United reserves in a 1-1 draw with Coventry City reserves on Tuesday, all itching for action, United may revert to 4- 4-2 with one of them playing in attack alongside Nathan Elder.

"The FA Cup is always special and you can never see what the results are going to be,"

said Elder, the former Brentford and Shrewsbury striker.

"But we worked very hard against Crawley last weekend and if we can take that into the next game, then there should not be any problems."

"Yeovil are having a bit of a tough time at the moment," added utility player Rob Purdie.

"And we are playing a lot more confidently now and feel we have a good chance of winning the game."

Reports Fulham Prepare £10m For Swans Sinclair

Reports are circling this morning that Martin Jol is keeping a very close eye on Scott Sinclair as the January Transfer window looms.

Scott Sinclair, who has 18-months left on his current contract is thought to be high on Fulham's radar after the London club have highlighted the need for a pacey left winger to boost their attacking options.

The former Chelsea starlet, who signed for Swansea for £1.5m has adjusted to life in the Premier League very well following a successful season in the Championship last season netting 27 times. Sinclair has 3 goals already this term - all coming from the penalty spot - but his all-round game terrifying defenders with pace and trickery have earned plaudits.

Brendan Rodgers has already stated that none of his star players will be leaving in January, that and the fact Fulham will probably have to sell before they can buy, means that this deal is very unlikely to happen.

100 Club

Fulham defender John Arne Riise is set to earn his 100th international cap on Saturday when Norway play Wales in an international friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The current Norwegian record for international appearances is 104, held by Thorbjørn Svenssen, who sadly passed away in January 2011 aged 86.

At the age of 31, Riise is on course to surpass Svenssen's record over the next few years, although Norway will not be competing in next summer's Euro 2012 Finals after finishing 3rd in qualifying group H behind Denmark and Portugal.

No Cottage raid for Roy

Roy Hodgson has been told that West Brom do not have the funds available to try and lure Fulham coach Ray Lewington to the Hawthorns.

The Baggies' boss was reportedly looking to take his former Craven Cottage assistant to the Midlands as a replacement for Michael Appleton, who was confirmed as Portsmouth's new manager on Thursday afternoon, despite claiming earlier in the week he was unlikely to bring anyone else in.

However, whether Hodgson had a change of mind in the meantime, it appears that an attempt to take Lewington, who is now Martin Jol's right-hand man at Fulham, will not happen.

Reports claim Albion's sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth has informed Hodgson that there is not enough money in the coaching budget to replace Appleton externally due to the prospect of having to pay a big compensation fee.

Dikgacoi braced for Yaya test

South Africa midfield anchorman Kagisho Dikgacoi is determined to get the better of Ivory Coast superstar Yaya Toure in Saturday's Nelson Mandela Challenge.

Bafana Bafana will host Africa's top-ranked team at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, with Dikgacoi likely to battle Manchester City's Toure for midfield supremacy.

"Obviously Yaya is a good player and he likes to go forward. So I think he is definitely going to be the dangerman on the day, but they have other dangerous players too," Dikgacoi told reporters at an autograph session at Greenacres Mall on Thursday.

"They are going to try and play a mobile and quick game. But we are certainly not going to stand back for them.

"It's going to be tough in midfield. Yaya, Emmanuel Eboue and (Cheik) Tiote are all very good players. I think the game will be won and lost in the middle of the park."

The Crystal Palace man should make his international return after a spell on the sidelines through injury.

Nicklas Bendtner is ready to face Fulham

STRIKER Nicklas Bendtner is expected to be fit to face Fulham on Saturday after recovering from illness.

The Denmark international flew home after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Manchester United complaining of a heavy cold.

It was initially thought that the player on loan from Arsenal would miss his country's friendly at home to Sweden this evening.

But having declared himself fit for tonight's game, the chances of him facing the Cottagers are looking good.

"I'm still sick, but I've trained okay and the international match against Sweden should be no problem," said the 23-year-old.

The Black Cats will be desperate for him to play when they return to Premier League action at the Stadium of Light.

Although the knee injury which forced Connor Wickham off in the fourth minute against Manchester United is not as bad as is first thought, he must be a doubt for the Fulham game until further news is forthcoming. The 18-year-old twisted his knee badly under an innocuous Rio Ferdinand challenge, and damaged his ligaments.

Bendtner has arguably been Sunderland's best player since joining from Arsenal on deadline day until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have laughed off talk of a January move for Charles N'Zogbia from Sunderland.

Black Cats manager Steve Bruce is a long-time admirer of the midfielder, who he took to Wigan Athletic from Newcastle United.

But his chance of signing the temperamental Frenchman looked to have been and gone when he turned down a return to the North East in favour of joining Villa last summer.

Giving the difficult task of

replacing the popular Ashley Young, N'Zogbia (pictured right) has struggled to make an impact in the west Midlands, and has been left on the bench for two Premier League matches, leading to talk of another move.

But Villa assistant manager Peter Grant cast doubt on whether Sunderland could afford the £9.5m signing, and suggested Villa would only consider selling to a Champions League club.

"You know what football's like, people talk about somebody moving every day," he said. "I think it was Benty (Darren Bent) last week, now it's Charles. I don't know who it will be next!

"People are talking about players going here, there and everywhere. Sunderland must have a few bob left if they are going to try and buy Charles.

"Listen, top players are always going to be linked with other clubs, but if players leave here they should only be going to top four clubs because there's not many clubs bigger than this one.

"In terms of the stadium, the history and the fans this is a big club and what we want to do is make it somewhere that everybody wants to come and play and that the boys here want to stay at."

Like Bruce, Grant's boss Alex McLeish is a long-time admirer of N'Zogbia's, and in his interview with the club's official website, the former Celtic player stressed that Villa will persevere with him.

"We feel in the last few weeks that Charles is starting to get there," he continued.

"The boys appreciate his talent because they see it on the training ground. That's why we're confident that there's a lot more to come from him."

Bruce is yet to be told his budget for the forthcoming transfer window and although a left-winger could well feature on his wishlist, it seems his pursuit of N'Zogbia has come to an end – at least for now.

For now he has enough on his plate dealing with the players he has. Titus Bramble will appear before Teesside Crown Court on 5 January. He yesterday pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and did not enter a plea on a charge of urinating in public.

Fulham prepare £10m January swoop for Swansea winger Scott Sinclair
Craven Cottage boss Martin Jol also keeping tabs on former Chelsea youngster's team-mate Nathan Dyer as he aims to boost his attacking options for second half of the season

Fulham are preparing a £10 million January swoop for Swansea winger Scott Sinclair, Goal.com can reveal.

Martin Jol and his staff are keeping close tabs on the England Under-21 international and his club colleague Nathan Dyer as the struggling Premier League club aim to beef up their forward line in the second half of the season.

Goal.com understands that the Fulham manager is targeting a fast, wide player who can add greater penetration to the team's left flank.

Sinclair has moved to the top of Jol's shopping list after maintaining his impressive form of last season, when he led Swansea to promotion from the Championship, in the early months of his return to the top division.

The £1.5m signing from Chelsea has scored three goals – all from the penalty spot – for the Welsh club this season and emerged as a key figure in their bid to stay in the Premier League.

But the 22-year-old has only 18 months remaining on his Swansea contract and has yet to begin talks with the club about a new deal.

Fulham are closely monitoring Sinclair's situation as they weigh up their options ahead of the January window. His 23-year-old team-mate Dyer, who operates on the right flank, is also an option after adding far greater end product to his game over the last 12 months.

Sinclair's career had stalled at Stamford Bridge, which had included loan spells at six different clubs, and it was not until his move to the Liberty Stadium last summer that he began to fulfil the promise that persuaded Chelsea to sign him when he was 16.

Sinclair scored 27 goals for Swansea last season, including a hat-trick in the Championship play-off final win over Leicester City, after following his mentor Brendan Rodgers to south Wales.

It is believed that Swansea value Sinclair at around £10m, a value that Fulham could only match if Jol offloads some of the fringe players from his squad.

Fulham will also move for a new right-back in January after learning that defender Zdenek Grygera is facing six months on the sidelines after rupturing knee ligaments in the 3-1 defeat by Tottenham last weekend.

A centre-forward is the other position that Fulham are looking to reinforce as they aim to build on a disappointing start to the season that has left them only one point and two places above the relegation zone.

Injury paves way clear for Kelly

Stephen Kelly is hoping Fulham boss Martin Jol will hand him a chance to shine at full-back in the absence of Zdenek Grygera.

The 28-year-old, who is set to feature for the Republic of Ireland in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier play-off first leg against Estonia in Tallinn, has struggled for regular first-team action under Jol this term, with summer signing Grygera getting the nod at right-back.

However, the former Juventus stopper was ruled out for six months with cruciate knee ligament damage he sustained during last Sunday's 3-1 defeat against Tottenham at Craven Cottage.

Therefore Kelly, who has played regularly in the Europa League but has been restricted to just one Premier League start this season, said: "The Europa League has given me the chance to play and put myself in the window to show what I can do.

"Hopefully that will continue on to the Premier League. The games I've played, against Manchester City and Blackburn, I felt they were two of our best performances, so to be able to perform at that level is great.

"Any game I'm getting I'm just trying to show what I'm capable of doing."

Can Dikgacoi stop Toure?

Doesn't matter if you are performing open-heart surgery, the man with the most important job in South Africa on Saturday afternoon is Kagisho Dikgacoi.

While the Bafana Bafana midfielder might not be as handy with a scalpel as the late Chris Barnard, he will have to shut down the heart and soul of the Ivory Coast football team, Yaya Toure, when the two teams clash in the Nelson Mandela Challenge match.

The Crystal Palace-based Dikgacoi is back in the Bafana squad after a spell on the sidelines with injury. And in his first game back for the national team he has got the unenviable task of keeping one of the world's best players quiet.

Toure has been phenomenal for big-spending English Premiership outfit Manchester City since he steered them to the FA Cup towards the end of the previous season.

He has remarkable skill and quick feet for a man his size, while his driving runs into the opposition penalty area cause chaos.

He also has a massive pair of lungs on him, and he can turn defence into attack with timely tackles and by spreading the ball so that his teammates hurt you on the counter-attack. No wonder he is reported to earn over £200 000 (R2.5 million) a week.

Dikgacoi is aware of the danger Toure poses, but on Thursday said the entire midfield of the Elephants would be South Africa's biggest threat, and that the game was likely to be won and lost in that area of the park.

"It's going to be tough in midfield, Yaya, Emmanuel Eboue and (Cheik) Tiote are all very good players. I think the game will be won and lost in the middle of the park," Dikgacoi told reporters on Thursday.

"Obviously Yaya is a good player and he likes to go forward. So I think he is definitely going to be the dangerman on the day, but they have other dangerous players too. They are going to try and play a mobile and quick game. But we have got some good players in our team as well. We are certainly not going to stand back for them," he added.

The former Golden Arrows player had a difficult time initially when he moved to England and joined Premiership club Fulham. He fell out of favour with then manager Mark Hughes, and was sent on loan to Crystal Palace in the English Championship.

He has since moved to across London to Palace on a three-year deal, and he has certainly enjoyed the game time afforded to him on the field. That can only benefit Bafana, who need a player like Dikgacoi to add stability in the middle of the park.

"If I play regularly for my team, obviously I'm going add value to the national team," the solidly built anchorman said.

Dikgacoi is likely to be partnered in central midfield by Kaizer Chiefs star Reneilwe Letsholonyane. The two operated together during the team's training season at the Gelvandale Stadium on Wednesday, and at the match venue yesterday.

It seems likely that Steven Pienaar and Siphiwe Tshabalala will have wide roles, while the young Daylon Claasen, who impressed during the botched 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, could be a surprise inclusion to play just behind Katlego Mphela up front. Coach Pitso Mosimane also asked the ground staff at the Gelvandale Stadium to wet the pitch, probably because rain is expected for tomorrow's encounter at the Nelson Mandela Stadium (kick-off 3.15pm). Goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, who is expected to start in the absence of Bafana No 1 Itumeleng Khune, wasn't sure why Mosimane had wet the pitch, but said the coach did not like to leave anything to chance.

"It could be because of the rain that has been forecast (for tomorrow), but it could also be that the coach wanted the ball to travel faster along the surface to give the boys a good workout. Either way, our preparations have gone well," the Orlando Pirates shot-stopper said.

Possible Bafana line-up: Josephs; Ngcongca, Gould, Sangwenim, Masilela; Dikgacoi, Letsholonyane, Pienaar, Tshabalala, Claasen; Mphela.

Academy Derby Day

U18 Premier Academy League leaders Fulham face second from bottom Chelsea on Saturday morning at Cobham Training Ground.

Kit Symons' team have recorded eight wins in ten games so far this season, scoring an impressive 33 goals to date and Fulham's Academy Manager is hoping his team's winning mentality pays dividends again this weekend.

"We've had some fantastic away results [this season]," said Symons ahead of Saturday's derby game. "We won against Birmingham earlier on in the season and we beat Aston Villa 4-0 away from home, which was an excellent performance. We also beat Arsenal 4-3 away and to win at Arsenal is always a good result.

"Football is about winning games, ideally you want to do it in the right way but sometimes you can't do that – you've got to grind results out. You've got to be able to win different games in different ways. That's part of the boys' education, if you just teach them to win nice games of football you're doing them a disservice.

"We've still got a lot of work to do, but the players are showing a fantastic attitude, a real togetherness as a group and a winning mentality – you can't ask for much more."

Riise: No bad blood with Bell
John Arne Riise is readying himself to face Craig Bellamy, a man he claims to have no issue with following an infamous bust-up in 2007.

The pair were team-mates at Liverpool four years ago when a team-bonding trip to Portugal resulted in an angry confrontation, with Bellamy wielding a golf club at his colleague.

Both men attempted to make light of the situation in the immediate aftermath, with Bellamy swinging an imaginary golf club after netting in a UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Since then the duo have gone their separate ways, with Riise now at Fulham and Bellamy back at Anfield following stints at West Ham, Manchester City and Cardiff.

They will go head-to-head for the first time on opposing sides this weekend when Riise's Norway take on Bellamy's Wales in an international friendly.

Riise claims he is looking forward to the game and is adamant that there is no bad blood between him and his former team-mate.

"I've always been alright with Bellamy," said the full-back. "What happened in Portugal a few years ago happened. But that's not the Bellamy I know and we shook hands quite quickly after that and settled it.

"I look forward to seeing him again. It could be a nice little friendship again."

While Riise will be charged with the task of trying to keep Bellamy quiet, it is Tottenham winger Gareth Bale who is likely to pose the biggest threat to Norway.

Riise lined up against the Welshman in Premier League competition last weekend and saw Bale inspire Spurs to a 3-1 victory at Craven Cottage.

"There is no left-sided player better than him at the moment," he added.

"He has a great left foot, he is strong and quick and can cross. You think you are going to be close to him and then he just runs past you and scores a goal.

"He works really hard and he is not a big celebrity. He just gets on with his job and you have to respect that."

Poll: Which out of contract Fulham player do you want to keep?

Six players are out of contract at Craven Cottage

Fulham have six players whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

Mark Schwarzer, Csaba Somogyi, Zdenek Grygera, Stephen Kelly, Danny Murphy and Andy Johnson all are coming to the end of their current deals.

Schwarzer joined the west London club from Middlesbrough in 2008 and has made 117 league appearances for the Cottagers.

The 39-year-old has impressed but should Fulham look to get a long-term replacement in now?

Somogyi could be that replacement having signed a one-year contract in the summer but he has yet to make an appearance for the west London club. Is he worth the risk?

Grygera has made five Premier League appearances this season but has just sustained a long-term injury. Should Fulham take the risk on his fitness next season?

Kelly is not a Premier League regular but does feature in Fulham's Carling Cup and Europa League exploits – is he worth keeping around the side?

Murphy has been a regular in Martin Jol's side but will be 35 by the season's end. Can he perform next season as well?

Johnson has scored 11 goals this season – however, eight of them have come in the Europa League. The other three came in the 6-0 thrashing of QPR. Does he still have the goalscoring touch?

What do you think? Who is the most vital player for Fulham next season?
