Take Our Chances

Martin Jol is calling for his team to display a ruthless streak in front of goal at the Emirates on Saturday and extend Fulham's recent upturn in results away from home.

Fulham followed up their fine victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium at the end of October with a draw at the Stadium of Light last weekend and Jol believes his team have the quality and experience to cause an upset in North London this weekend.

"We have a good, experienced team and we're capable of getting a result on Saturday," said Jol. "Our priority is to defend well but play with confidence and belief. We've done that in our last two away games and kept two clean sheets so we've got confidence.

"We're always capable of creating chances. Of course Arsenal have their strengths but they also have weaknesses like any other team. They play with a lot of possession and there's a lot of talent in their team but they still have to rotate at the back so hopefully we can exploit the space we get.

"If we can do the same as we did against Wigan and score a few goals from three or four attempts then we can get a result. We have to exploit our chances – especially in the first 30 minutes of a game. If you score the first goal it gives you a nice cushion for the rest of the game."

Injured Duff to miss Arsenal game

Fulham wide-man Damien Duff will miss Saturday's derby against Arsenal.

Duff has been nursing a calf problem and has failed to recover in time for the game at the Emirates Stadium, where the Whites will also be without Stephen Kelly and Steve Sidwell.

Defender Kelly is struggling with a thigh injury he recently suffered while playing for the Republic of Ireland, while midfielder Sidwell is still recovering after a hernia operation.

Fulham had hoped to have Sidwell available for the clash with his former club but he is now aiming to return to action next week.

John Arne Riise will play, having missed last weekend's draw at Sunderland to attend the birth of his son.

8 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW: ARSENAL VS FULHAM

Van Persie scored two more in Arsenal's 2-1 win against Norwich last week to continue his lethal run of form and take his tally for the season to 13. His average is now more than a goal a game, averaging one every 81 minutes 23 seconds.

Van Persie has got 63% of shots on target so far this season, from an incredible 52 attempts at goal, averaging an attempt every 20 minutes 20 seconds. His conversion rate of chances to goals is now 25%.

Gervinho got more shots on target than any other player in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index in last week's games, with five against Norwich, yet did not mange to hit the back of the net.

Mikel Arteta covered the most ground for Arsenal for the second game in a row with 11,082 metres against Norwich. Areta has average 111.43 metres per minute for Arsenal and Everton this season.

In comparison to van Persie's mpressive run in front of goal, Clint Dempsey may feel aggrieved at his return of three goals from 41 attempts and 68% on target. A chance conversion rate of just 7%,Aaron Hughes covered the most ground for Fulham against Sunderland with 9,464 metres, despite Fulham being out run by Sunderland by 94,578 metres to 98,518 metres.

Mark Schwarzer was credited with a great performance in Fulham's 0-0 draw against Sunderland in their last Barclays Premier League outing. Schwarzer made 7 saves in that game, taking his total for the season to 70, the third highest total in the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

Match Notes
After Manchester City, Arsenal are the form team of the Premier League just now and have built their success on a home record that is unblemished since August.

Fulham are also notoriously poor away from Craven Cottage, with just eight league wins since the start of the 2008-09 season.

They do, however, go into the match with the rare advantage of a week off from European football.

Arsenal, by contrast, had to be at full strength to defeat Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Stat of the game: Robin Van Persie has scored 10 goals in Arsenal's last five Premier League games.

Betting: Home 2-5, Away 5-1, Draw 16-5.

Jeremy Wilson's prediction: Arsenal 1 Fulham 0.

Arsenal to secure another three points against Fulham

The bookmakers make Arsenal 1.44 shots to maintain their terrific run of form by beating Fulham in their London derby clash at the Emirates this weekend, and if the stats are anything to go by then another three points looks assured.

Fulham have never won away against Arsenal in any competition in 25 attempts, losing on 22 occasions, and the have won just one of their last nine PL games against the Gunners.

The Cottagers have also won just three out of 45 Premier League London derbies away from home and none of the last 34 since they beat Tottenham in August 2003.

No surprise then that Arsenal are long odds-on shots, and it really is impossible to envisage anything other than a comfortable victory for Arsene Wenger's men.

However rather than play the 1.44 I think that backing Robin van Persie to score any time at 1.67 with bet365, Boylesports, Betfred and Paddy Power makes far greater appeal.

The Dutchman has done us plenty of favours in recent weeks thanks to his goal scoring exploits and has now scored 31 goals in 29 Premier League games in 2011 and seven in his last four appearances at the Emirates.

He has also scored in five of his seven Premier League starts against Fulham. I certainly wouldn't want to desert a winning formula by not backing him to net, and also fancy him to score first as well at 4 with bet365 and Paddy Power.

The stats also suggest that Fulham will struggle to score and that throws up some plays in the correct score markets.

I like the look of 3-0 at 12 with Paddy Power and 4-0 at 19 with bet365, Betfred and Boylesports.

Arsenal vs Fulham: Preview

At some point credit is due to Arsene Wenger for turning Arsenal's season around – they may not win anything, but I think most of their fans knew that before the season started. The melodrama of the early season has proven to be just that, and everything seems fairly rosey in the Emirates garden.

A habit that Arsenal seem to have picked up in the last couple of the weeks is winning. Not playing particularly well, not being especially easy on the eye, but picking up points all the same. After the backboneless seasons that have gone by, that must a beautiful sight for their fans.

Fulham travel to the Emirates averaging a paltry half a goal a game on their travels, and in some really mixed form (3 losses, two wins, and a draw in their last six). It's the same old problem with Fulham; awkward at Craven Cottage, lightweight away from it, and never scoring enough goals.

That being said, they do have the capability of digging in and making life uncomfortable for Arsenal – and Moussa Dembele and Bobby Zamora will present a threat at some point to the home defence. It will definitely be intriguing to see how they cope with Fulham's set-pieces.

Injury-wise, Abou Diaby may be fit to make his first league game of the season and Tomas Rosicky should play some part. Carl Jenkinson, Jack Wilshere, and Bacary Sagna remain out though. Fulham will be welcoming back John-Arne Riise after missing the Sunderland game for family reasons, although Damien Duff will likely not feature owing to a thigh strain.

The smart money is obviously on the home win, but how could you not also look at Robin Van Persie(4/1) to score first?

Fulham unable to cope with Arsenal's pace and guile up front – 3-1 home win.

Fulham boss Martin Jol: 'Arsenal have weaknesses'

The Dutchman believes his side can end Arsenal's winning run

Fulham boss Martin Jol is looking to expose the weaknesses Arsenal possess when the two sides meet tomorrow at the Emirates.

The Gunners have been in excellent form in recent weeks, but the Dutchman believes his side can end Arsenal's winning run.

"Of course Arsenal have their strengths but they also have weaknesses like any other team," Jol said.

"They play with a lot of possession and there's a lot of talent in their team but they still have to rotate at the back so hopefully we can exploit the space we get.

"We have a good, experienced team and we're capable of getting a result on Saturday.

"Our priority is to defend well but play with confidence and belief. We've done that in our last two away games and kept two clean sheets so we've got confidence."

The Fulham manager will be looking to a similar performance in front of goal to last week's 2-0 victory at Wigan.

"If we can do the same as we did against Wigan and score a few goals from three or four attempts then we can get a result.

"We have to exploit our chances – especially in the first 30 minutes of a game.

"If you score the first goal it gives you a nice cushion for the rest of the game."

Blackburn Rovers rival Fulham for Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui

According to reports Blackburn Rovers are interested in Ajax forward Mounir El Hamdaoui.

It is understood that the Dutch outfit are keen to hear offers from interested parties in January for the unsettled striker.

Despite massive injury problems in attack, Ajax coach Frank de Boer refuses to consider the former Tottenham forward.

El Hamdaoui has had it made clear he's not in De Boer's plans, as former Ajax star Johnny Rep declared: "A fit El Hamdaoui is not an option. For him, he can just train to keep fit."

It is believed that Rovers' Premier League rivals Fulham are also in the hunt.

JOL WARY OF VAN PERSIE THREAT

Martin Jol insists Fulham can get something from Saturday's trip to Arsenal, but knows they must find a way to shackle Robin van Persie to stand any chance.

The in-form Holland international is in the midst of an incredible scoring run for the Gunners, with 38 goals in 41 matches this year.

Jol was quick to praise his compatriot ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League encounter, but believes Fulham can cause an upset in north London.

"The priority is to defend well but still play with confidence and belief," Jol said. "I think we have done that in our last three or four away games.

"We have kept a clean sheet three times so we have some confidence of doing that [again]. I think we are always capable of creating a few chances.

"Of course they have their strengths, but they also have their weaknesses like any other team.

"The other night Borussia Dortmund did well against them but Arsenal have the quality now with Van Persie, he is the one scoring the goals and has a hell of a record.

"They play in a specific style with two wing players, Van Persie up front and three midfielders - two attacking, one sitting. That has changed a bit from a couple of years ago when van Persie was a lower number 10 or second striker.

"They are playing with a lot of possession and of course they have a lot of talent in the team, but they still have to rotate at the back. Hopefully we can exploit the space we get.

"In any game we will get chances, so if we can do the same we did against Wigan, where we scored two goals out of three or four attempts, then we can always get a result."

Former Tottenham manager Jol was also full of praise for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, labelling him "one of the greatest" in the game.

Jol failed to win any north London derbies against the Frenchman during his time at the Spurs helm and, while admitting it still rankles, thinks the Gunners had a better team back then.

"That was a regret because Arsenal were our biggest rivals but we had three draws," he said. "We were close and even in the last game Spurs played at Highbury we finished 1-1.

"They had a good side then with Gilberto Silva and Thierry Henry - old war-horses. They were a different team then with a lot of experience and Henry was a problem.

"There were a few good games and close ones, but they always had the specific quality, especially at home, to have the edge."

Jol will be without several first-team players for Saturday's game.

Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff is out with a calf problem, while international team-mate Stephen Kelly is also sidelined with a thigh injury.

Although John Arne Riise returns after missing last week's clash at Sunderland due to the birth of his son, Steve Sidwell, Zdenek Grygera, Orlando Sa and Simon Davies are all missing.

Such injuries have seen an increasing number of players linked with a move to Craven Cottage in January, including Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The France international, who was set to join the Cottagers in August before Marseille pulled the plug, has fallen out with manager Didier Deschamps and has been relegated to the reserves.

Asked whether he would consider another move for Gignac, Jol said: "If we do, we will let you know.

"Of course we always look to improve the squad and that is what we try to do, but I don't want to mention names."

Have Your Say

As part of a regular feature in this season's matchday programme, we're inviting fans on Fulham's social media channels to have their say on topical football subjects.

Ahead of every home Premier League game, we'll post a question of Facebook and Twitter and invite you to respond with your thoughts. Our pick of the responses will be selected and printed in the following matchday programme.

This week, after the Football Association raised the possibility of goal-line technology being introduced as "quickly as possible", the subject of our debate is:

Do you believe video replay technology should be introduced into football and, if yes, to what extent (goal-line, offsides, penalty calls etc)?

Jol coy on Gignac speculation
Fulham boss quiet on rumours linking him with Marseille striker

Andre-Pierre Gignac: Fell out with Marseille manager Didier Deschamps after he was dropped to the bench

Fulham boss Martin Jol has refused to be drawn into speculation linking his side with Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.

The France international is playing in the Ligue 1 club's reserve side after falling out with manager Didier Deschamps.
It is understood that Gignac was unhappy after being left out of the starting line-up in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash against Olympiakos.

The Cottagers were linked with the 25-year-old in the summer and the French club later confirmed that he was in negotiations to move to Craven Cottage on transfer deadline day.

The majority of Fulham's goals have been shared between Clint Dempsey, Andrew Johnson and Bobby Zamora this season, but Gignac has been a consistent scorer in France.

Speculation

But asked if Fulham have made another offer for the player, Jol's response was: "If we do, we will let you know.

"Of course we always look to improve the squad and that is what we try to do, but I don't want to mention names."

Gignac signed for Marseille in 2010 after a successful spell at Toulouse and has won 16 caps for his national side.

This season, he has failed to find the net which led to his omission from the starting line-up in Europe in midweek.
