Duff back for Fulham but duo miss out

Damien Duff has been passed fit for Fulham's Europa League clash with Odense, but Danny Murphy and Steve Sidwell have been ruled out.

Duff has been given the all-clear to return following a recurrence of a calf problem, while Chris Baird is also available again after missing Saturday's defeat at Swansea.

Fulham are also hopeful that veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will recover from a knock in time for Wednesday's game at Craven Cottage, where a win would take the Whites into the knockout stage of the tournament they reached the final of in 2010.

But they will be without midfielders Murphy and Sidwell, who are still struggling with the injuries that forced them to sit out the Swansea game.

Striker Andrew Johnson is suspended following his sending-off against FC Twente. Bobby Zamora, a notable absentee at the weekend, is back in the squad.

Fulham vs OB Odense: Cottagers to ensure Europa League progress
Martin Jol's men have a fantastic European home record and should see off Odense

Fulham head into their final Group K game against Odense needing a win to guarantee progression to the next stage of the Europa League.

They are currently just one point ahead of Wisla Krakow who need a win against group winners FC Twente to have any hope of progression.

With Fulham's home European record though, there's little chance of them slipping up...

Match odds

Fulham's home form in the Premier League may be rather erratic but in Europe they have been absolutely incredible at Craven Cottage.

Their 4-1 defeat of Wisla Krakow in their last home game means they have now gone 18 games without defeat in the Europa League and they head into this Wednesday's clash as big 2/9 favourites.

It's not only the Cottagers' home form that should give Fulham fans cause for optimism though, as the away performances of Odense have left a lot to be desired.

They have won just three of their previous 12 Europa League away games and are a massive 12/1 to win in West London.

Goal Markets

Odense may have lost four of their previous five Europa League away games but they have found the net in all of them.

They have actually scored ten in their last six Europa League away games and backing Fulham to win with both teams to score looks tempting at 12/5.

Meanwhile, Fulham have found the net in all of their previous 15 Europa League home games and hit four in their last one.

Backing over 3.5 goals could be well worth a punt at 13/8.

Europa Team News

During Tuesday afternoon's pre-match press conference at the Training Ground, Martin Jol stated that he will field a strong starting eleven on Wednesday night against Odense BK in a UEFA Europa League match the Manager has described as a 'must-win' game.

With UEFA Europa League Group K rivals Wisla Krakow challenging FC Twente in Poland, Jol is determined to see his Team finalise the Group standings in SW6 by gaining maximum points against Odense BK.

"We made things difficult for ourselves by losing to Wisla Krakow in Poland and we have to win tomorrow night against Odense BK," said Jol.

"It's a must-win game. FC Twente will almost play their reserves tomorrow night so I think Wisla have a great chance of winning their game. We have to do everything to win.

"I will play different players tomorrow night but we will still put a strong team out. Andy Johnson getting a second yellow card against FC Twente in Holland was disappointing because he is our top scorer. There are a few players I have to play tomorrow night to make a difference."

Jol also revealed on Tuesday afternoon that two recent absentees will return to his squad for Wednesday night's European clash whilst Steve Sidwell and Danny Murphy will miss out due to injury. Fulham's manager is also hopeful Mark Schwarzer will be fit to face Odense BK.

"He's [Schwarzer] got a problem in his spine but a specialist is coming to see his this afternoon [Tuesday] and we'll make a decision. I think he's got a great chance of playing.

"Chris Baird and Damien Duff are available. Steve Sidwell is not available because his recovery [from a hernia operation] is taking longer than we thought and Danny Murphy still has a problem with his ankle."

Wisla set out to pip Cottagers
Wisla Krakow will host FC Twente on Wednesday looking to snatch the second qualification place in Europa League Group K ahead of Fulham.

The Dutch side are already through to the knockout stages and the Poles can join them should Odense pull off a shock result in west London.

Wisla, though, have to win and hope Martin Jol's Fulham slip up as they trail on head-to-head record against the Premier League side.

Odense, however, have little left other than pride still to play for following their 2-1 home defeat by Wisla on matchday five, when first-half strikes from David Biton and Patryk Malecki kept alive their slim hopes of qualification.

Kazimierz Moskal will again take charge of the side having been put in temporary control following the dismissal of Robert Maaskant at the start of November.

The caretaker boss faces a stern test as Twente have yet to lose in the group stages, winning all but one of their games, which was a 1-1 draw at Fulham on matchday one.

Wisla have something of a defensive crisis, with Marko Jovanovic now also a doubt leaving the Poles short of options at the back.

"Maybe we will just play three defenders. I thought about it," Moskal said. "Sometimes the situation forces that, although having four defenders would be preferred.

"At this level the players are able to adapt and know what to do in all positions."

Twente come into the match on the back of a 2-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie on Saturday, but have advised their fans not to travel to Poland and have not put any tickets for sale.

The decision comes after an incident in the first leg at the Grolsch Veste when some away fans were wrongfully refused entry, and the two clubs have yet to reach "any amicable agreement on the issue".

Twente operational affairs manager Eugenio Porcu said: "Because of this incident many supporters of Wisla have become agitated and this has led to some of them issuing threats to our club.

"FC Twente has determined that the nature of these threats has lead the club no longer being able take any responsibility for the safety of its own supporters.

"FC Twente has therefore advised its supporters not to travel to this fixture. FC Twente regrets that it has come to this."

Martin Jol quashes talk of rift with Bobby Zamora

Fulham manager Martin Jol today played down talk of a rift with Bobby Zamora.

The 30-year-old's relationship with the Cottagers boss has been a hot topic of debate in recent months and was fuelled further by the striker's omission from Saturday's match at Swansea.

Zamora will return to the Fulham squad for tomorrow's vital Europa League encounter against Odense but there is speculation that the England international could leave Craven Cottage in January, with Sunderland and QPR mooted as potential destinations.

Jol this afternoon brushed off such talk ahead of tomorrow's Europa League Group K tie with Odense, which the west Londoners need to win to ensure progression to the knockout stage.

"I said to him a few weeks ago 'do you love this club?' and he said 'yeah, I love this club, I love this team'," Jol said.

"I don't think there is any problem. I think the grass is always greener [on the other side] but it is not only for him.

"There are always players in a squad of 24 or 25 players that look at other clubs, but this is a great club.

"There is not one player that has told me he does not want to play for this squad. I feel if you look at the media, they started this Bobby thing in August.

"There are a few youngsters that tell me they should be playing and are not playing all the time, but Bobby is totally different.

"I wanted a good atmosphere and a good team that pushes each other so I though last weekend it was time for Andy Johnson to play because he has scored goals.

"He had good games and worked hard in training so that was the motivation."

Asked again whether there was a rift with Zamora, he retorted: "They (the media) said we had a 'bust-up' at the start of the season, but you always have a little bit of a disagreement.

"If you want them to go into space and they want to come to the ball or, for example, [Pajtim] Kasami has to play on the right and wants to play number 10.

"I have got a lot of players who have to play in a different ways, like the youngster Kerim Frei.

"The main thing is the team, the club."
Zamora's return to the squad for tomorrow would likely see him replace Johnson in attack.

The 30-year-old misses the Group K finale through suspension and will be joined on the sidelines by Bryan Ruiz, Danny Murphy and Steve Sidwell.

Fulham are boosted by the return of Damien Duff and Chris Baird, although goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer faces a fitness test.

"He has a problem with his spine because he had that fall [at Swansea] but we make a decision today," Jol said.

"The specialist is coming this afternoon to make a decision, but I think he has a great chance to play. Sidwell is not available, it is longer than I thought. Danny Murphy has a problem with his ankle and Damien Duff is back.

"I will play different players because I think I need to, but we still have a strong team. I realise we need to win this game because of the Wisla Krakow away game where we lost 1-0.

"It made it difficult for ourselves and we have to win tomorrow. It is a must-win game. I know Twente will play almost a reserve side [in the group's other match] so I think Wisla have a great chance to win that game so we have to do everything tomorrow to win."

Fulham boss expects to keep QPR, Aston Villa and Sunderland target

MARTIN Jol insists he doesn't expect star striker Bobby Zamora to leave Fulham in the January transfer window.

The England frontman has been strongly linked with a £10million move away from Craven Cottage in the new year after a reported fall-out with his boss.

Speculation increased at the weekend when Zamora was left out of the squad for the trip to Swansea, with QPR, Aston Villa and Sunderland believed to be keen.

However, the 30-year-old is expected to lead the line in tomorrow night's Europa League showdown with Odense.

And Jol insists Zamora is happy in SW6.

"I said to him a few weeks ago 'do you love this club?' and he said 'yeah, I love this club, I love this team'," Jol said.

Fulham sweat on Schwarzer ahead of Odense clash

MARTIN Jol is hopeful Mark Schwarzer will overcome a back problem in time for the Europa League showdown.

The Fulham keeper picked up the problem in Saturday's defeat at Swansea, but is due to be assessed this afternoon ahead of the Group K clash.

Jol is boosted by the return of Chris Baird and Damien Duff, while the boss also confirmed star striker Bobby Zamora would be back in the squad after missing the trip to Wales.

Fellow frontman Andy Johnson is suspended, Bryan Ruiz is unavailable, while Danny Murphy (ankle) and Steve Sidwell (hernia) have failed to recover in time.

Jol denies Zamora rift before crucial Europa League clash with Villa, Sunderland and QPR in the hunt

Denied: Jol refuted media speculation about a rift
between him and Zamora

Fulham manager Martin Jol has attempted to play down talk of a rift with Bobby Zamora ahead of their Europa League encounter with Odense.

The 30-year-old's relationship with the Cottagers boss has been a hot topic of debate in recent months and was fuelled further by the striker's omission from Saturday's match at Swansea.

Zamora will return to the Fulham squad for the match but the England international could leave Craven Cottage in January, with Sunderland and Aston Villa mooted as potential destinations, but QPR are leading the way.

Jol tried to brush off such talk ahead the critical Europa League Group K clash, which the west Londoners need to win to ensure progression to the knockout stage.

'I said to him a few weeks ago 'do you love this club?' and he said 'Yeah, I love this club, I love this team',' explained Jol.

'I don't think there is any problem. I think the grass is always greener [on the other side] but it is not only for him.

'There are always players in a squad of 24 or 25 players that look at other clubs, but this is a great club.

Combative: Zamora is feisty at the best of times

'There is not one player that has told me he does not want to play for this squad.

'I feel if you look at the media, they started this Bobby thing in August.

'There are a few youngsters that tell me they should be playing and are not playing all the time, but Bobby is totally different.

'I wanted a good atmosphere and a good team that pushes each other so I though last weekend it was time for Andy Johnson to play because he has scored goals.

'He had good games and worked hard in training so that was the motivation.'

Asked again whether there was a rift with Zamora, he retorted: "They (the media) said we had a 'bust-up' at the start of the season, but you always have a little bit of a disagreement.

Imperative: victory is essential if Fulham are to progress

'If you want them to go into space and they want to come to the ball or, for example, (Pajtim) Kasami has to play on the right and wants to play number 10.

'I have got a lot of players who have to play in a different ways, like the youngster Kerim Frei.
'The main thing is the team, the club.'

Zamora's return to the squad would likely see him replace Johnson in attack as the 30-year-old misses the game through suspension, and will be joined on the sidelines by Bryan Ruiz, Danny Murphy and Steve Sidwell.

Fulham are boosted by the return of Damien Duff and Chris Baird, although goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer faces a fitness test.

'He has a problem with his spine because he had that fall [at Swansea] but we make a decision today,' Jol said.

Brought in: Zamora will be recalled to the squad and is likely to start

'The specialist is coming this afternoon to make a decision, but I think he has a great chance to play.

'Sidwell is not available, it is longer than I thought. Danny Murphy has a problem with his ankle and Damien Duff is back.

'I will play different players because I think I need to, but we still have a strong team.

'I realise we need to win this game because of the Wisla Krakow away game where we lost 1-0.

Sinclair Swoop?

Apparently, Scott Sinclair isn`t joining Fulham!

The young winger has decided to stay in South Wales and ply his trade with Swansea City.

I say apparently because one tabloid is running a little article telling us just that and whilst this article may have a little hint of sarcasm about it, it`s because this is the first I`ve heard about any interest in the player!

John Arne Riise targets Europa League progress

JOHN Arne Riise admits he would be 'devastated' if Fulham were knocked out of the Europa League.

Martin Jol's men need a win against Odense tomorrow night to guarantee qualification from Group K.

Fulham have already played 29 competitive games this season – almost twice as many as some of their Premier League rivals.

But Riise is determined to continue Fulham's European quest.

"We're fully aware of what they [Odense] can do, but at the same time, we should win tomorrow," said the Norwegian.

"I'm sure we'll be on top of our game, play our best football and get the three points."

He added: "I would be devastated if we go out. Firstly, because I hate losing and also tomorrow's game is one we're favourites to win, so it will be quite hurtful not to go through."

Riise's European fire burning brightly at Fulham

Though he has achieved a lot in a distinguished career, John Arne Riise would still be hurt if Fulham FC fail to secure second spot in Group K against eliminated Odense BK on Wednesday.

John Arne Riise is vastly experienced at European level

A UEFA Champions League winner and Fulham FC's most experienced continental campaigner, John Arne Riise would be "devastated" if the Cottagers' European run came to an end against Odense BK.

Whether it be a century of appearances for Norway or as a member of the Liverpool FC team which dramatically defeated AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul six years and a half years ago, the left-back has seen, and accomplished, a lot in a distinguished career.

The competitive edge that has enabled him to achieve such success remains as sharp as ever. Indeed, failure to finish second in UEFA Europa League Group K would be a bitter blow to the 31-year-old and the 2010 finalists, who will progress with a victory regardless of the result between Wisła Kraków and section winners FC Twente.

"I would be devastated if we didn't go through," said Riise, who could make his 120th UEFA club competition outing at Craven Cottage on Wednesday. "I hate losing and I always try to win every game I play. Obviously that doesn't always happen, but tomorrow is a match we're favourites for and it would be quite hurtful not to go through."

Like Fulham, Riise's European season has been a stop-start affair. Having joined from AS Roma in July, he featured in four of the west London side's eight qualifying fixtures but did not surface in the group stage until matchday four.

"It has been up and down," explained Riise, when asked to summarise his and Martin Jol's team's campaign. "We would have liked to have been in a better position going into the last game, but, at the same time, we have our destiny in our hands. If we win we're through and that's a nice feeling to have.

"From my point of view, I came into the competition a little bit later than the other players, because they started early [on 30 June]. The manager decided to rest me for a few games at the beginning but now I've played the last two. I want to play every match but if the manager decides to rest me then that's fine and I respect it."

Runners-up in Denmark last term, OB arrive in England for their final fixture of the year languishing eighth in the Super League, eliminated from Europe and having conceded 19 goals in their last six UEFA away games. Their chances of springing a surprise, though, are enhanced by the suspension of Fulham's five-goal top scorer in the group stage, Andrew Johnson.

"They haven't had the best campaign, but they have the quality to hurt any team, so that's why we have to be on top of our game," warned Riise, whose younger brother ‒ Bjørn Helge − is also on Fulham's books. "I'm sure we'll do that tomorrow, play our best football and get the three points. We're fully aware of what they can do, but, at the same time, on paper we're the better side and should win."

Ipswich Sweat On Stockdale Return To Fulham Today

Ipswich fans and Fulham manager are keeping their fingers crossed that Mark Schwarzer will be fit to face Odense BK in the Europa League this week.

Jol: Not one player wants to leave

Fulham manager Martin Jol today played down talk of a rift with Bobby Zamora ahead of tomorrow night's UEFA Europa League match with Odense.

The 30-year-old's relationship with the Cottagers coach has been a topic of debate in recent months and was fuelled further by the forward's omission from Saturday's match at Swansea City.

Zamora will return to the Fulham squad for tomorrow's crunch match, however. Jol this afternoon brushed off talk of a potential January move for Zamora ahead of tomorrow's Europa League tie, which the west Londoners need to win to ensure progression to the knockout stage.

"I said to him a few weeks ago 'do you love this club?' and he said 'yeah, I love this club, I love this team','' Jol said. "I don't think there is any problem. I think the grass is always greener (on the other side) but it is not only for him.

Martin Jol, Fulham manager

"I wanted a good atmosphere and a good team that pushes each other so I thought last weekend it was time for Andy Johnson to play because he has scored goals. He had good games and worked hard in training so that was the motivation."

Odense manager Henrik Clausen is hoping to give Fulham a fright. The Danish side are unable to progress, but hope to frustrate the Cottagers. "It will be an exciting fight, and we will do everything we can to get a good result," said Clausen.

"We can use the match to finish our European campaign properly. It will be a good fight against a Premier League team, which certainly is a favourite. We will play it like we could go further. I certainly hope we can tease Fulham.

"On the one hand, we must go ruthlessly after chance and dream about winning, but we must also be realistic and say that Fulham are favourites. If we play against them ten times, perhaps only two or three times we can get points out of it."

Stockdale Recall Not Expected

Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer's back problem is not expected to lead to on-loan Blues glovesman David Stockdale's return to the Premier League club. The Cottagers inserted a 24-hour recall clause in the 26-year-old's season-long loan deal.

Cottagers boss Martin Jol is hopeful that the Australian will be fit for their Europa League game against Danish side Odense on Wednesday: "He's got a problem in his spine but a specialist is coming to see him this afternoon [Tuesday] and we'll make a decision. I think he's got a great chance of playing."

Schwarzer, 39, previously suffered from a back problem in September when there were also concerns that Stockdale might be recalled.
