Do we have eight homegrown players for next season?

4 have to be under 21 as well.

Is anyone sure of what this ruling means?

I don't get it, arguably it's in our squad that we nee to have 8 homegrown players - If that's the case then why don't we just increase our squad numbers or give 8 homegrown players numbers and just not use them!...?!

he Premier League have introduced a home-grown player rule which will come into effect from next season, alongside a limit on squad sizes.

From the 2010/11 campaign, the 20 Premier League clubs have voted to introduce measures which will see all teams required to have eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.

Chief executive Richard Scudamore confirmed the changes, with clubs only able to make alterations to their squads during the two transfer windows.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," Scudamore said.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

"Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January."

Players who are aged under 21 are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

Well you can have a squad of any size (spurts have 65).....................

clubs just have to name 25//

1 Zamora
2 Johnson
3 Duff
4 Davies
5 Murphy
6 Konchesky
7 Hughes
8 Kelly

so after that the rest  17 can be ''foreign
1 Swartzer
2 Hangeland
4 Paintsil
ecetara.......................................

Or is that too simple ??????/

Cheers Kcat - don't suppose you could enlighten me by letting us know how many are in our squad at the moment?...

Also, assuming all squads will only be allowed 25 players wont that make the Premiership a lot less competetive on the european stage?..

Obviously the standard of players in the squads will improve dramatically but 25 players if you get an injury ravaged season or are competing on four fronts with games every 3 days doesn't exactly help I would've thought....?!

What a load of utter tosh from the FA yet again.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system."

How is traning defined? If it means having a contract, under that definition Chris Smalling is not even home grown yet, and he was born in Greenwich.

Secondly what about the Northern Irish and Sweaty Socks? They are as little homegrown as Charlie the Chinaman according to this but every Welshman is (and I love the Welsh).

And this is supposed to help us in a big way to develop our "homegrown" talent? How is a bunch of "homegrown" Welsh going to help England at the end of the day?

It is all far too vague to have any impact whatsoever. What a load of FA bollocks.

I think what it means that each club must 'register/nominate/declare ( @ the end of August and @ the end January)
25 player's names and of those,  7 must comply with the 'home grown label'

The  statement 'Players who are aged under 21 are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.'' is very strange .. so perhaps they actually mean a team can only have 17  'Foreign' players.
And then again................... if a team have a squad of say 50  ..................can they  have double bubble 34 ?????..must be because the alternative is that there will be a massive number of players for sale

Of our guys:
The Northern Irish ........................ one is '' Home grown '' the other is noT
Hughes @ Newcastle aged 18 ... 1997/2005  and did you know : Hughes was awarded the number 18 shirt by Ruud Gullit at the start of the 1999/2000 season while at Newcastle. Since then he has never worn another number at club level. Even at international level he has worn the number since 2002.

Baird ....not ?? he was 20 when Southampton paid £100,000 to Ballymena for him

The Rebs are both in ...
DuFF ...................Joined Blackburn at the age of  17

Kelly................joined Spurt's youth in 2000 at the age of 17

It would be great if our ,  Le Grande Fromage of Football   ...would offer some clarity on this    :045:

Grasshopper  ????
