I play for Acton 1's in the Middlesex County league.  He has been registered for Wembley.

Theres a few Fulham fans there, we used to have the crack with Acton when my lot ,Hillingdon used to play there, is Mr Turnell still wheeling away

He is.  Not as much as he used to.  Plays in the 2's every other week now.  I've played with Marty for 15 years.  We used to play a early friendly against Hillingdon

Years ago it was a much looked forward to game against your boys, late stays at both grounds. Remember Ollie, Matt, the Basterville and Reid brothers etc. Keep saying to Matt we`ll have to ressurect the fixtures, your lot are bit better than us now, in the old days we were probably stronger

I must have had a pint with you in the past!  Olly is still playing in the 2's and although Steve basterfield don't play anymore I'm his bestman for his wedding in sdptember! The Reeves are also still very much involved at the club So.... Obvious question..... What's your name???

Justin Corbin, always played for the 2s, brother Julian was first team captain ,he would`ve played against all those guys loads of times over the years

Play for purley in the surrey league. Hope you enjoy this, just soak everything up on the day and i hope more than anything the weather stays away. If he comes on just clear that left leg and bring out the slog sweep and tell him where to go...... 098.gif

King_Crud

and I thought my games against hackers in the London SW non league park cricket division were exciting!

jarv

Just looked at your league. What's the difference between tied and drawn.?  OK, I know it is one point before a wiseguy responds :011:
Excellent post. Posts about cricket, pubs inPutney/Fulham etc. do make me a bit homesick.

King_Crud

a tie is when a game finishes tied, ie both finish all out with the same score. A draw is a game where no one has won due to time running out

NorthernWhite

Wow, enjoy!

A friend of mine managed Sri Lanka at the last World Cup when they got to the final and Muralli can still bowl!

I hate playing timed games, give me a 35 or 40 over game any day

I am a bit envious reading this thread. I regret, many years ago, I did not play club cricket. I was half way decent and had opportunities to play but my summer sport of choice was tennis.

I played at a club by Chiswick bridge. They also had cricket teams and very nice facilities. Have any of you ever played there?

I think it was called the polytechnic sports club (or something like that).

The main difference I think is cricket offers great team camaradery (like football) and a few pints.  082.gif The tennis lot were a bit stuck up, some downright unfriendly.  :56:

I'm 33.  Acton have 4 league sides so all abilities are welcome if you fancy coming along well net on Thursdays.

yep, my social team is always looking for players, any skill level welcome. We play out of Barnes, and most of our games are in the SW area, with the occasional game elsewhere (this weekend we're in Peper Harow in Surrey). We also do end of season tours, previous ones have included Athens and France, as well as in England. This year it's to Worcestershire.

I haven't played Cricket since I left for Uni, which is now 2 years. Its amazing how just reading people talking about it brings back the passion to play.

I tried going to the Uni cricket, mostly net sessions at Trent Bridge, but it was just unorganised chaos, too many people and no structure at all.

My brother plays at the local club (Stevenage), and I might just see if I can get myself into a social team.

I live in America now, so no chance of getting a game. (not to mention, too bloody old). 092.gif

One of the features of a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park here in the spring, summer, and fall, is a fairly spirited cricket match. I usually stop and watch a few overs, but most of mah fellah Texans just shake their puzzled heads and move on.

Mr. Jarv, I don't know where you live, but if you have any concentration of South Asians, I'll bet there's some cricket about.

Don,
I did witness a game in a Boston suburb some years ago. Mostly, West Indians, Indians and a few Aussie accents. The standard was surprisingly high. Given the poor quality of the pitch, they had a special 22 yard mat rolled out so the ball bounced true.
