You'll have to believe I'm not taking the Michael here but (and this is not meant to be disparaging) I've never heard of this Elia bloke.

Is he seriously good then?

I really don't think he is coming to Fulham.

Im not saying west ham at present are better but in general it really is not that wrong for them to think they are the bigger team (if you really look at it they are, bigger stadium, won cups, key stone to english footy over the years with lampard,cole,ferdinand,robinson...)
They also have far more supporters, which is evident both from Internet traffic and the numbers we respectively take away. I wouldn't swap allegiances, but they are the fourth biggest club in London on a long-terms basis by any of the conventional measures. Whether that matters to foreign players looking to come to London for a year or three is another matter, but if the poster wondered what he was missing, well that was what he was missing.

even if they've a better history, until three months ago they were a division below us. this guy's 25--i doubt he knows much about british football before 2007, since when, we've been doing better than 'the hammers'. i agree tha in a debate down the pub they could argue, loudly, spraying their piss across the table, that they're bigger than us, but if they think players are gonna be choosing them over us this summer by virtue of their perceived status, they're even muggier than those QPR nobs

I suspect that the "gentlemen" who own West Ham will probably remunerate their players better than we do and possibly in attractive, unconventional ways.

As I had in mind in my "whether.....another matter" bit. Agreed. As for bragging rights, if you choose Fulham in the first place then you're unlikely to care much about them, and I'm too old by now to do so in any event. However, if someone wants to solicit astonishment that West Ham can possibly be thought `bigger' than Fulham, then it's best if the potential embarrassment of that is pointed out promptly, which two of us did.
Tony's point just above here is phrased with a solicitor's regard for the libel laws, which needs to be emulated by civilians like me. I think I see what he means, however, and yes, that may also be a factor -- and certainly (to agree with you again) more probable than that the bloke would care unduly about the fine detail of English football history.

Mr Fulham

Werder Bremen defender Naldo and the very reliable "Kreiszeitung" have all but confirmed that Elia was in Bremen but Werder are struggling to sort out a fee for him.

They are only able to offer a loan deal, while Juve want a straight cash deal.

begs the question, why are juve letting a player talk to a club who have not/possible can not agree on a fee. reckon jol should get messi in for a day so we can all go see him train

I'd guess that players are allowed to talk to other clubs if they have their transfer request accepted, like Elia has.

well that is good enough for me..hope to god we get him

To clear this up a bit, Elia and Bremen have agreed terms but not a fee. Oloofs or something like that, who i think is some sort of DoF, is talking to juventus about getting Elia on a loan. Juventus dont want Elia to go on a loan, they want him permanently gone. Juventus's price is €7mil which corresponds to about £5.6mil. Bremen are only wiling to offer €3-4mil (£2.4-3.2mil) euros for a permanent transfer as they dont have that much money. The only team to have filled out Juventus's request of €7mil is fulham.

the1metaknight

Oh and loads of juventus fans are saying that he's having a medical for fulham and is joining us. Take what you want from that.

i would really like Elia to sign as i think he is a great player, infact i prob rate him better than he actually is, altho my mate who played against him last season said he is alot better and even faster in real life than on tv lol... however after the last few days, if the rumours are true, we have apparently agreed a fee and terms with the player and he still hasnt signed cos he is holding out for a different club. This information (if correct) is putting me off signing him. As much as i like him (and have raved about him in the past) i would rather sign someone that wants to be with us 100%
