...the flippant reply should be "anything by either Ken Coton and Martin Plumb, Anything by Peter Thomson and Alex Ferguson (The Fulham Traveller) or by Alex White and Dennis Turner"

That would be cheating, but indicative of the quality of all the established Fulham fans who have put together books on the Whites.

To ask only three is difficult, but I have listed below three Fulham books that should be in a Fulham fan's collection, in no particular order:-

'The Cottagers Journal'
'On Song For Promotion'
'Johnny Haynes - The Maestro'

A special mention should go out to Richard Allen's annual Fulham Reviews as well as his recent book.

My three favourite football books:

1) Inverting The Pyramid - Jonathan Wilson. A wonderful history of football and football tactics. Emphasis on the history, for me. You'll not become Mourinho by reading it, but it is fascinating. I'd thoroughly recommend anything by JW.

2) Cantona, The Rebel Who Would be King - Philippe Auclair. Great book, even for a non-United, Les Bleus or Eric fan. Great story, wonderfully well written and superb digressions.

3) The FA Guide To Training And Coaching - Allen Wade. More of historical artefact than anything else since it's rather dry, but Allen Wade was Roy Hodgson's mentor and inspiration, so I like to think of this book as being a symbol of our wonderful couple of seasons under Roy.

I haven't read it yet, so I can't make a proper recommendation -- but everybody I know who's read Robert Andrew Powell's "This Love Is Not For Cowards: Salvation and Soccer in Ciudad Juárez" says that it's great.  I'm not sure how much press it's gotten outside the US (where it's gotten very little, actually).

If you're interested in the birth of organised football then read this.

Exceptionally well written it explains the origins of the game and the contrast between the public school and working class roots but by focussing on individuals it comes to life.

You won't regret reading this.

Gary Imlach's "My Father and Other Working Class Football hereos" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Father-Other-Working-Football-Heroes/dp/0224072684/ is the best footy book I've ever read - definitely recommend

I'm going to hunt this down. I was born just over the border from Juarez, and I'm most pleased that I don't live in El Paso right now.
