Not argueing, but you dont like Bairdino do you?

RoyTund

Baird wasn't great today.  Good goal for Rodallega but still a bit concerned about his passing.

I know you are not keen on Hughes, but thats very harsh, wasn't that bad at all.
We all see the game differently, FoF has taught me that.

Its not like he stood infront of Schwarzer whilst playing everyone onside for the Wigan goal or anything.

Or misjudged a number of long balls, gave away the ball inside the area and generally had a bad match.

Bertie Wooster

I think Sidwell has been  a bit under-rated today. He has become a governor of the middlefield. Rodallega is not at 100%, his passing is still quite poor, but this goal can be an injenction of faith for him.

Agree.

If 5 is average then Hughes was below average today. Kone took advantage of him on multiple occasions.

Agree w/ ddeuce on most counts - Berb & Roda equal, Duff & Schwarzer standouts, Hughes stunk.

It was a battling, as welll as skilful, performance from the team - and al credit to them and Jol for the victory.

I just wanted to say that Ruiz showed great strength and determination in  his dribble and assist to Duff - and he is someone who has been criticised for being knocked off of the  ball too easily, and for his attitude.

A mark of 7 for ruiz? Seriously?
I watched the whole game. This is the Ruiz, who casually and needlessly lost possession upfield, with most of or team in advanced positions, leading to a wigan break in which they almost equalise. For his so called assist, when he receives the ball in a position requiring a quick lay off instead ruiz incorrectly turns into trouble, he just manages to hang onto the ball and again he should lay the ball off then but even more stupidly tries again to go through two defenders also unsuccessfully! Becuase he is so slow in action he is then surrounded by wigan defenders and with no other option available he toe pokes the ball away, it may have been a pass to duff or it may just have been a luckynbreak for the team, either way it was a fluke that he had the last touch giving him a so called assist! I watched the incident several times to be sure i am being fair to the man. What i observed was not skill but good fortune.
What i saw was somebody attempting to be selfish, releasing the ball as a last resort, I also saw him almost cost us the game with wasteful and casual play. My mark for ruiz would have been 5- we were worse once he came on absolutely no doubt about that. Sorry if I don't agree with the majority view. Berbatov's cross was an assist, Ruiz would never have chipped that ball in for Hugo! He would have had to take on at least one player and turn at least twice before releasing it.

The man that can do no right.  I also "watched the whole game", I thought when he came on he did well, set up the 2nd (like it or not he did).  He did lose possession once that led to a chance but then gain I also remember Berba losing the ball a couple of times that led to Wigan attacks, but we won't mention that.  Flair and creative players do give the ball away more because they take risks.  Dickson Etuhu never (well not never but you know what I mean!!) gave the ball away much because he treated it like a hot potato and could not wait to offload to Murphy 5 yards away.

Whatever the opposite of rose tinted specs are you have it about Ruiz.

I'll just say one thing - Rodallega was outstanding!

Those who criticise his passing clearly don't see what he's trying to do. Rodallega is incredibly creative for a front man, and he's passing to where those around him should be moving to, in much the same vein Berbatov does. He reads the game incredibly well and his movement really torments.

If his passing seems off because balls go astray, then we should be looking at those around him and not at the man himself. Far too many times was he let down on Saturday through having no support or players not spotting the pass when it was clearly on. I'm sure this'll be addressed by Jol, but we should definitely be encouraging this type of play, not criticising it.
