Fulham in the black following Mohamed Al Fayed action and healthy financial figures

Mohamed Al Fayed: 'True to Fulham's strong heritage'

Fulham are now debt-free following chairman Mohamed Al Fayed's decision to convert loans to the club into equity.

A second successive annual profit enabled the club to pay off all external debt, while Al Fayed converted outstanding loans to the business into equity.

The news comes on the same day Fulham revealed a profit of £1.2m for the year ended 30 June 2012 - results which follow on from a record profit for the previous 12 months.

The club's Europa League participation, a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League and an increase in attendance figures all contributed to the healthy figures.

Al Fayed said: "Fulham continues to make great strides and, following planning permission for the redevelopment of the Riverside Stand, we will continue to prosper and grow.

"For almost the last 15 years, I have ensured the club moves in the right direction and remains true to our proud history, strong heritage and past traditions."

Diarra: "The atmosphere of a Clásico is special because the public is aware of the match's importance"

"It would be very difficult for a team led by Mourinho to be knocked out after a two-legged play-off", said the ex-Madrid player.
Alberto Navarro
Mahamadou Diarra didn't miss a trick in the team's final session at the Real Madrid training facilities before the match with Barcelona tomorrow. The ex-midfielder for 'the whites' who played for them in two leagues, the Spanish Super Cup and the squad that beat the Catalan team in the best final in the entire history of the Copa del Rey, spoke about the atmosphere in the Bernabéu stadium during the matches: "It's a very special atmosphere because the public is aware of the match's importance. The team has to come out onto the pitch with ambition and enthusiasm and show everyone what Real Madrid is made of in front of their supporters. This way we can achieve great things for our fans and go into the second leg with confidence. I hope that Real Madrid wins tomorrow and that it's an exciting game".

The footballer, who was born in Mali and now plays for the English club Fulham, also spoke about how it feels to be in the dressing room in the minutes before walking out onto the pitch for a Clásico: "You are aware that this is unlike any other match. Inside the dressing room the footballers are under a lot of pressure, but they're also confident about the match and give it their all. The last few minutes before the clash are just spent thinking about what a great opportunity this is to show everyone why you play for Real Madrid".

Diarra, who was watching the team train, commented on the quality of Real Madrid: "The team is starting to build up their confidence again and there is a lot of energy and enthusiasm and a 'do it right' attitude. In my time at the club we beat them and they can do it too because individually-speaking, the quality of team is much higher than it was when I was there".

Lastly, he praised Mourinho, whom he played under at Real Madrid, and his capable and masterful approach to two-game rounds: "Mourinho is an excellent coach and he knows what has to be done. It's very difficult for a team led by Mourinho to be knocked out after a two-legged play-off. Home or away, Real Madrid always has a chance to score".

FULHAM FACE COMPETITION FOR IGOR DE CAMARGO

FULHAM look set to be rivalled in their bid to nab Igor de Camargo.
The Belgian forward, who is currently at German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, has slipped down the pecking order at his club.

He is a man in demand as Everton are also keeping a close eye on him.

Fulham are looking for an out and out striker to support Dimitar Berbatov, who is the club's top scorer with seven goals. Moreover, their Premier League status for next season isn't totally guaranteed so they need more goals to ensure they don't go down.

Everton however are chasing a possible Champions League spot, and Camargo could be the man to help them push for it.

Camargo has scored five times in the Bundesliga this season.

Striker Signs

Although many suspect that the midfield is the area that would most benefit from strengthening, it appears we`ve landed ourselves a striker.

Most news sources are reporting that Martin Jol has secured the services of the Brazilian born striker Igor de Camargo

De Carnargo has, initially, been signed on loan with a view to a permanent deal being signed in the summer, if the move works out.

The striker has been brought to Craven Cottage from the German side Borussia Moenchengladbach, with whom he`s scored 14 goals in 58 appearances.

Whether he`ll be in the squad to face West Ham tomorrow evening remains to be seen!

ARE FULHAM AND NORWICH SET FOR A MASSIVE SLIDE DOWN THE PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE?

t is a commonly held football theory that each season at least one team which is nestled in the deceptive comfort of mid-table at the turn of the year will slip into a rut of form.  The downward momentum being hard to reverse, that club will inevitably find itself mired in a relegation battle as the campaign reaches its climax.

Most recently, and perhaps most famously, Birmingham City followed a Carling Cup final victory over Arsenal on February 27th 2011 with a horrendous run which resulted in what has proved to be an extremely costly relegation.  The Blues lost their first match after the Wembley final at home to West Bromwich Albion, but despite sitting in the bottom three after that reverse had games in hand on all around them, and form – they had lost only 9 of 27 league fixtures – which didn't give any hint as to what was to follow.

What transpired was that the St Andrew's club only managed to win two of their final eleven matches and had their demotion confirmed by a final day defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.  The financial turmoil and current on-field travails at the Blues should provide an extremely stark warning to any side allowing a touch of complacency into their thinking regarding the latter months of this term.

Looking back further to 1997 offers an even greater cautionary example as to what can happen if a side takes their eye off the ball.  On 29th January Peter Reid's Sunderland, fresh from winning the old Division 1 Championship the previous year, were happily ensconced in 11th position and set fair to establish themselves in the top-flight after a five year absence.

The subsequent 14 matches brought only three wins – albeit against Manchester United, Everton, and away at North-East rivals Middlesbrough – and a fatal nine defeats.  Rokerites will never forget the most sickening of concluding days as their team lost limply at Wimbledon while Coventry City pulled off an incredible 2-1 victory at Spurs, so consigning the Mackems to relegation despite garnering the 'magical' 40 points.

Two sets of supporters who may have a fear creeping into the back of their minds concerning their teams suffering the same fate as Sunderland and Birmingham are those at Norwich City and Fulham.  Both experienced troubling F.A. Cup exits at the weekend, and are similarly finding Premier League points extremely difficult to come by.

The Canaries cup humiliation at home against non-league Luton Town understandably captured a weightier share of the headlines, but Fulham's feeble and insipid surrender at Manchester United was characteristic of too many of the Cottagers' recent displays.

Chris Hughton and Martin Jol's teams sit 13th and 14th respectively in the top-tier, 7 and 6 points clear of Reading who occupy the final relegation spot.  Hughton has yet to be confronted with a situation in his managerial career in which he's had to contend with a slide in fortunes.  The 54 year-old won promotion with Newcastle United and was widely considered unlucky to lose his job with the Geordies lying 11th in the table four months into their return to the elite.

The former Spurs defender performed a remarkable feat in leading Birmingham to the play-offs during his year in the Midlands and, after a shaky start in Norfolk, appeared to have steadied the club, and indeed restored much of the vigour and excitement that was so prevalent under Paul Lambert last term.

Much will depend on how the usually unflappable Hughton can manage the current inertia that has descended on his club.  There is precedent.  Owen Coyle's first taste of adversity came with Bolton Wanderers poor opening to last season.  It was a decline he couldn't halt.  Lambert, since a thankless start in the profession at Livingston, has predominantly known only the highs at Wycombe Wanderers, Colchester United, and Norwich.  The Scot is finding the task of resuscitating Aston Villa alarmingly challenging.

When they beat Wigan Athletic at home just 44 days ago Norwich were 7th in the Premier League, with home wins against Arsenal and Manchester United and a thrilling 4-3 triumph at Swansea City to their credit.  The Canaries had lost only 4 of 17 league games.

Five defeats – in which the team's early season porousness has returned – and an uninspiring goalless draw with Newcastle United later and the picture is very different.  On its own, Saturday's humbling against the Hatters of Luton would be tough to stomach, but in the midst of such a trying time and with confidence so fragile it couldn't have come at a more hazardous time for Hughton.

It doesn't get easier from here with Spurs, and their rampant collection of attackers, the next visitors.  Hot on the heels of that encounter are what, unthinkable only weeks ago, could be crucial dog-fights against QPR and Fulham.

On that same December 15th day that Norwich were toppling Wigan, Fulham's all too familiar soft-centre was being exposed as they allowed themselves to become the first team this term to lose a league match against QPR.  That frailty away from Craven Cottage has long been ingrained at the cosy West-London club.  What will be of large concern is that their home form has not been of its usual reliable standard.  Only 4 of 11 clashes played next to the Thames have resulted in a full point return for the Whites.

Since that chastening defeat at Loftus Road, Jol's team have taken 5 points from 6 games, most notably playing the part of complete pushover in facile wins for Liverpool and Manchester City, and earning only two draws from home fixtures against Southampton, Swansea, and Wigan.

After their arrival back in the upper echelons of English football in 2001, Fulham have largely been renowned for their slick and skilful sides, and an ability to replace star performers with similar quality.  Louis Saha's move to Old Trafford was covered during the following six-months by the arrivals of Brian McBride, Collins John, and Tomasz Radzinski.  When Sean Davis opted to switch to White Hart Lane, the exceptionally gifted Claus Jensen was bought from Charlton Athletic.

The signings of Clint Dempsey and Jimmy Bullard ensured there would be no drop in the Cottagers' midfield quality when Steed Malbranque was lured by Spurs.  Assiduous scouting and a detailed knowledge bank within the club has brought the acquisition of outstanding talent such as Mousa Dembele and Bryan Ruiz, while captures including Damien Duff, Bobby Zamora, and Mark Schwarzer have been a perfect fit for the Cottage.

There is, however, a telling difference in the latest Fulham squad.  During the past 12 months, Bobby Zamora, Andy Johnson, Dembele, Dempsey and Danny Murphy, all absolutely integral to much of Fulham's fluid football and positive results in recent times, have drifted away and not been replaced by individuals of comparable ability.

Dimitar Berbatov is the one exception, but the talented and mercurial Bulgarian is not a man any club should typically look to in times of hardship.  The classy Ruiz remains at the club – indeed he is a quintessential Fulham player.  Nevertheless, others brought in by Martin Jol look to fall short of the necessary ability or spirit to grind out results, or fight in the face of adversity.

Georgios Karagounis, Kieran Richardson, Ashkan Dejagah, and Hugo Rodallega undoubtedly boast some attributes, but added to what is already a labouring side there is not enough in Jol's ranks to consider top-flight football next season a certainty.  The Cottagers will be desperate to take full points at home against West Ham on Wednesday, with Manchester United due in town three days later.

If Norwich and Fulham cannot hastily rediscover some of the brio and enterprise which were the hallmarks of their 12th and 9th place finishes in May last year, there will be a number of ashen faced fans watching their football in two throbbing Premier League grounds as this campaign draws to its close.

Bulgaria's Manolev to Move on Loan Deal to Fulham - Report

Bulgarian international Stanislav Manolev is likely to move to Fulham on a loan deal until the end of the season, according to a report.

The Cottagers will have an option to buy the player at the end of the deal, the report says.

The deal is expected to take place by Thursday, when the transfer window is set to close.

Manolev's agent, Mino Raiola, recently stated that the Bulgaria international would be a perfect fit at Craven Cottage.

Manolev has made 76 appearances for PSV Eindhoven since arriving from Litex Lovech in 2009, scoring three goals. The 27-year-old player has been struggling to get first team action at the Dutch giants this season.

Emmanuel Frimpong confident Fulham will pull away from the relegation zone

Emmanuel Frimpong: Midfielder relishing Fulham loan stay

Midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong is confident he will not be involved in a relegation battle after joining Fulham on loan from Arsenal for the remainder of the season.

The Cottagers have won only two of their last 15 Premier League games and sit 14th in the Premier League - six points off the drop zone - as they prepare to host West Ham on Wednesday.

"The lads are very calm," said Frimpong. "I think when you are in a position like Fulham are at the moment you need players to be calm and not to panic.

"Every team goes through a patch in the season when you're not getting results.

"As long as the manager and the team know there are players that can perform and it is only a little slip, I think we will be fine.

"We have some experienced players in the changing room, obviously the captain Brede Hangeland,Damien Duff and Dimitar Berbatov.
"You have got some very experienced players and I don't think we should start panicking yet. I think we will be fine."

Frimpong has spent loan spells at Wolves and Charlton in the past year and is happy to be on the move again.

"It has been a very good start," the 21-year-old said. "Obviously I came in on Monday and saw some of the lads.

"It has been good training and the lads have been really welcoming to me so I am looking forward to my first game.

"Hopefully the manager will pick me but he has not given the team away yet. I would like to feature but we will have to wait and see.

"The first thing I want to achieve is get playing - that is the main reason I came here. To play in the team I have to make sure that I am playing well every week or whenever the manager calls me.

"That is the main aim, to come here and play football and until the summer then see what happens.

"My strongest attribute is probably tackling and getting tight to a midfielder.

"I like to fight for the ball, fight for my team and hopefully I can bring that to Fulham and help my team."

Premier League: Fulham prepare to face West Ham at Craven Cottage

Fulham have the chance to overtake their visitors when they host West Ham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

Neither team have won in the Premier League since New Year's Day with Martin Jol's side on a run of four without a win in front of their own fans.

A London derby against the Hammers could be the motivation they need to kick-start their campaign and pick up that first home win since the December triumph over Newcastle.

Coincidentally, Sam Allardyce's side have fond memories of the Magpies too -their November trip to Tyneside is the last time the Irons picked up three points on the road.

The West Ham boss is known for targeting specific fixtures and it seems likely that an away day at the Cottage would be the sort of evening he will expect his players to end that poor run.

Bolstered by a host of January arrivals, both sides will go into this clash with cause for optimism but for the losers there is still the risk of being lured into a surprise relegation battle.

  Fulham

Emmanuel Frimpong is in line to make his Fulham debut after joining on loan from Arsenal on Friday.

Fellow midfielder Simon Davies is also available for selection having returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Kieran Richardson (calf), Mahamadou Diarra (knee) and Kerim Frei (pelvis) are all absent for the visit of the Hammers.

  West Ham

West Ham striker Andy Carroll could finally return to the squad after recovering from a knee problem.

The on-loan Liverpool forward has been missing since November but could make the bench at Craven Cottage.

New arrival Emanuel Pogatetz will go straight into the squad but George McCartney (knee), James Collins (hamstring) and Dan Potts (concussion) are all missing.

Opta Facts:

Fulham have won just two of their previous 17 Premier League matches against West Ham (W2 D5 L10), with one of those victories being in their first ever PL meeting.
Carlton Cole has scored in each of his last five Premier League starts against Fulham, netting six goals in total.
No goalkeeper has been forced into making more saves than Jussi Jaaskelainen (91).
Dimitar Berbatov netted five goals in his first seven Premier League appearances for Fulham (goal every 117 mins), but has scored only two in his subsequent 12 PL games (goal every 540 mins).

Emanuelson heading to Fulham

Milan midfielder Urby Emanuelson is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan move to Fulham.

The Dutch international has been increasingly on the sidelines of the squad this season, playing as a stop-gap solution in defence, midfield, on the wing or even as part of an attacking trident.

According to Italian news sources, Emanuelson is already en route to London where he will undergo a medical and sign the contract.

However, Milan are only prepared to release Emanuelson on loan with no option to make it a permanent move.

It has been a very busy day for the Rossoneri, who secured Mario Balotelli from Manchester City for €20m plus €3m in performance-related bonuses.

Fulham debt free after Fayed turns £187m loan into equity... (and club will meet UEFA's financial fair play rules!)

Fulham's millionaire owner Mohamed Al Fayed has converted his £187million worth of loans to his club into equity.

It means the club are essentially debt free and will not be caught out by UEFA's new financial fair play rules.

Al Fayed, the former owner of the Harrods department store, bought Fulham in 1997 and has seen them establish themselves in the Premier League.

Owner: Mohamed Al Fayed turned his loans into equity to leave Fulham debt free

'Following the previous season's announcement of record profits, the most significant development is the Club ending the financial year with no debt, having repaid any external indebtedness and Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed converting his previous loans to the Club into equity,' the club said on their website.

Fulham made an operating profit of £1.2million in the 2011-12 season, down from more than £5million the previous year.

Report: Emanuelson set for Fulham loan

URBY EMANUELSON will leave Milan on a six months loan deal to join English side Fulham.

It's a very busy Tuesday for the Rossoneri as after announcing the move of Mario Balotelli from Manchester City (pending medical) and it also seems that they are now ready to loan Urby Emanuelson to Fulham.

Mino Raiola, who is one of Urby's representatives, was in England today for the Balotelli talks, also spoke with the London based club about the Dutchman who has found limited time so far under coach Allegri.

Niang: "Everything is possible, I do not fear Messi"
Official: Balotelli joins Milan from Manchester City

Emanuelson's agent admitted the player is not happy with his current role as a benchwarmer and according to Sky Sport 24, he is on the verge of a move to Martin Jol's Fulham. The move will be on loan but Fulham will not have an option on Emanuelson. Urby will hope to get more playing and return to better.

Sky reports that Milan could try and sign a midfielder this January with Andrea Poli, Juraj Kucka mentioned as options. In other news, Balo won't be able to wear the jersey #9 as Pato had already worn it this year.

Fulham's experienced squad will prove the difference in relegation battle, says Frimpong
The 21-year-old midfielder has joined the Cottagers on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season and is certain Martin Jol's men will pull away from the bottom three

Fulham loanee Emmanuel Frimpong is confident the Cottagers will not be dragged into the Premier League relegation fight.

The west Londoners have experienced a significant dip in form in recent weeks, winning just two of their last 15 league games, meaning they sit just six points and four places above the relegation zone ahead of the visit of West Ham on Wednesday night.

And Frimpong, who could make his debut for the club after joining on loan from Arsenal for the remainder of the season, believes the high number of experienced professionals in the Fulham dressing room will see results improve.

He told Sky Sports: "The lads are very calm, I think when you are in a position like Fulham are at the moment you need players to be calm and not to panic.

"Every team goes through a patch in the season when you're not getting results. As long as the manager and the team know there are players that can perform and it is only a little slip, I think we will be fine.

"We have some experienced players in the changing room, obviously the captain Brede Hangeland, Damien Duff and Dimitar Berbatov. You have got some very experienced players and I don't think we should start panicking yet. I think we will be fine."

The Ghanaian-born player's loan move to Craven Cottage marks his third temporary switch in 12 months after spells with Wolves and Charlton, and Frimpong is relishing the prospect of increased first-team opportunities in the Premier League.
He continued: "It has been a very good start. Obviously I came in on Monday and saw some of the lads."

"It has been good training and the lads have been really welcoming to me so I am looking forward to my first game. Hopefully the manager will pick me but he has not given the team away yet. I would like to feature but we will have to wait and see.

"The first thing I want to achieve is get playing - that is the main reason I came here. To play in the team I have to make sure that I am playing well every week or whenever the manager calls me.

Transfer news: Hoffenheim sign Igor de Camargo on loan

Igor de Camargo: Striker celebrates with Monchengladbach team-mates

Hoffenheim have signed Brazilian-born Belgium striker Igor de Camargo on loan until the end of the season from German rivals Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 29-year-old, who has 18 months left on his current deal, had been linked with Everton and Fulham.
De Camargo has played nine times for Belgium since gaining citizenship in 2009.

He previously played for Belgian sides Genk, Beringen-Heusden-Zolder, FC Brussels and Standard Liege, before moving to Monchengladbach in 2010.

Hoffenheim are currently struggling in the Bundesliga and are 17th in the 18-team league with only 13 points from 19 matches.

General manager Andreas Muller said: "De Camargo will bring more impact in offence. I'm certain that he will play an important role for us with his class and experience."

Come in Andy! Off-form West Ham set to throw Carroll into 'doom derby'

Star has only had two days' training after two months out, but is in line to face struggling Fulham PLUS Cottagers aren't stressing says Frimpong

Cottage industry? Carroll could return against a Fulham side he bullied in September
Jamie McDonald

By Mike Walters

Twitchy Sam Allardyce is ready to gamble on Andy Carroll against Fulham in a desperate bid to pull West Ham out of their nosedive.

Hammers boss Allardyce has presided over a wretched run of just five points from a possible 24, culminating in a 7am inquest with his squad just hours after last week's 5-1 drubbing at Arsenal.

Big Sam has also missed out on transfer target Stephen Warnock, after the former England defender snubbed the Hammers to join Championship mid-table side Leeds.

And Allardyce faces a battle to keep dynamic midfielder Mohamed Diame beyond Thursday night's transfer deadline, with Arsenal ready to spring the £3.5million release clause in his contract.

Carroll, who has been out since November 28 with a knee injury, is likely to be on the bench at Craven Cottage on Wednesday in what has becomes a doom derby, where the losers will be sucked into the relegation dogfight.

The £35m England centre-forward, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, terrorised Fulham when he made his Hammers debut in the reverse fixture at Upton Park.

Allardyce said: "Andy is fit, in terms of being injury-free, and he is training with the first team players again.

"We have to assess whether to put him straight in the side at such an early stage having had no competitive football for two months and only two days' training with the squad.

"But we aren't comfortable, in terms of where we are in the table, by any stretch of the imagination - our recent results would suggest we are anything but comfortable.

"We have taken only five points from our last seven games, which is not good enough, and the players' responsibility to get more points on the board, starting at Fulham.

"Generally, we have always had a good reaction after losing a game - I just hope it is the same at Craven Cottage and the players reach the level we know they can."

Allardyce admitted he could lose Senegal international Diame, saying: "It's total confusion. I hope we don't, but we might lose him.

"It's the worst month of the year because of the volatility of the market and speculation on a daily basis about what is happening to your players.

"For those of us teetering on the brink of the relegation zone, it creates a wave of emotion that is very difficult to deal with.

"Diame is a professional, he's paid to play for West Ham United and I expect everyone to put the shirt on and play with passion, ability and desire.

"He has had a long spell off with a hamstring injury and is only finding his feet again. My plan is that I'm playing him because I hope and believe he's going to be here after Thursday.

"I've re-sold the club to him a million times already, but at the end of the day it will be money talking - and when money talks in football, there's no stopping it.

"People (agents) are trying to earn their living in one month because it's the only month they have a chance to earn it."

Loan star backs Fulham to shine

Emmanuel Frimpong does not believe anybody at Fulham should be panicking about their current predicament.

The Cottagers are in the midst of a sticky patch and sit 14th, just six points off the drop zone.

Frimpong, who has joined on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season, could make his debut against the Hammers - and thinks his new club will be fine.

"The lads are very calm," he said. "I think when you are in a position like Fulham are at the moment, you need players to be calm and not to panic.

"Every team goes through a patch in the season when you're not getting results.

"As long as the manager and the team know there are players that can perform and it is only a little slip, I think we will be fine.

"We have some experienced players in the changing room, obviously with the captain Brede Hangeland, Damien Duff and Dimitar Berbatov.

"I don't think we should start panicking yet."

FA Youth Cup: Arsenal 2 Fulham 1 (AET)

Fulham Under-18's involvement in the FA Youth Cup came to an end on Tuesday night as Arsenal's 108th-minute winner secured the home side's passage into the Fifth Round.

The Gunners took an early lead when Anthony Jeffrey struck after just nine minutes, the winger finishing smartly beyond the reach of Billy Granger following a perfectly timed pass from Jack Jebb.

Jebb nearly doubled his side's lead shortly after, with Jeffrey going close too, as Arsenal made the brighter start to proceedings. Serge Gnabry, a player that has already appeared for the first team, then went close with Josh Passley making an expert intervention on the line.

At the other end, Fulham threatened in patches, with the lively Moussa Dembele the main threat going forward. The French youngster twice tested Deyan Iliev in the Arsenal goal.

But the first 45 minutes really belonged to the Gunners as Granger made a smart stop to thwart Jeffrey and Gnabry, who should have made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.

Having had the chance to regroup, Steve Wigley's side raced out of the blocks and their positive response was rewarded when Muamer Tankovic swept in from Solomon Sambou's clever run and pass.

The impressive Jordan Evans, a second-half substitute, could have put Fulham in front when jinking through the Arsenal defence before shooting wide, while Cauley Woodrow tested Iliev moments later. At the other end, Granger made two key stops to deny Gnabry as Arsenal issued a warning.

The instrumental Patrick Roberts also caused the Gunners no end of problems, and the 16-year-old went close to putting Fulham in front with 10 minutes left following another slalom run.

Arsenal skipper Isaac Hayden made two brilliant interventions to beat Woodrow sight of goal, with Evans and Tankovic seeing chances come and go as Fulham finished the 90 minutes on top.

With extra-time needed, George Williams came closest for the Whites, but with a penalty shoot-out looming it was the hosts that found the breakthrough as Austin Lipman slotted in a cool late winner.

Speaking to fulhamfc.com, Academy Director Huw Jennings said: "It was a good display from the boys, all that was missing was the result. It's always disappointing to lose in extra-time, so the manner of the loss was hard to take. I think we did enough to win, especially in the second-half where we created a lot of chances.

"Unfortunately, sometimes that just isn't enough – and that has been proven time and time again in cup football. We just fell a little short against what is a very good Arsenal side. Six of their players tonight are regulars in their Under-21 team, and to be honest, I thought we matched them. Our boys can take a lot of credit from that performance.

"We've done really well in the Academy League in recent seasons, and of course, we wanted to do well in the FA Youth Cup because it is a wonderful competition. We have reached the Quarter-Final in two of the past three seasons, so it would have been nice to get that bit further – but it wasn't meant to be.

"There were still a lot of positives to be taken, and the boys will learn a lot from the experience. I don't like to single players out, but I have to say that Patrick Roberts was the standout performer tonight – for an Under-16 player he was exceptional. I think the fans should know that we have a very talented schoolboy on our hands with him.

"At 16, he's got a lot of football ahead of him and we certainly have high hopes for him and a number of our young players. I feel for the second-year scholars, for this was their last chance at the FA Youth Cup, obviously they will be illegible next season. I know this competition means a lot to our players.

"But we will bounce back, and we've got a lot to look forward to. We want to continue the success we have shown in the league and that starts with an exciting game against Southampton this weekend."

Fulham U18s: Granger; Donnelly, Arthurworrey, Passley, Richards (O'Halloran 110); Roberts, Sambou, Hyndman (Williams 70), Dembele (Evans 45); Tankovic, Woodrow.

Emanuelson checks into the Cottage for reunion with Fulham boss Jol

Fulham are in talks to sign AC Milan midfielder Urby Emanuelson on loan. The 26-year-old Dutch international can play left-back, midfield and as a winger.

The Dutch international has been increasingly on the sidelines at Milan this season, and has not found a settled position in the side.

Emanuelson is understood to be in London where he will undergo a medical and sign the contract until the end of the season.

Heading to Fulham: Urby Emanuelson looks set to sign for the Cottagers

Emanuelson all but confirmed the move when he tweeted: 'a strange day... Leaving Milano for London... Tomorrow we know more'
The 26-year-old played under Fulham boss Martin Jol at Ajax and has been capped 16 times by the Dutch national team.

He will become Fulham's second loan signing this month after Emmanuel Frimpong joined from Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Igor de Camargo has snubbed both Fulham and Everton by returning to Germany with a view to completing a transfer to Hoffenheim.

No go: Igor de Camargo looks set to sign for Hoffenheim

Fulham were confident of signing striker De Camargo and negotiations were well advanced for a loan from Borussia Monchengladbach for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent deal.

Everton were also involved and offered better wages than Fulham but again wanted a loan with the option to buy at the end of the season for the 29-year-old Brazil-born Belgium international.

De Camargo left England on Tuesday to discuss a permanent transfer to Hoffenheim, who offered a two-and-half year permanent contract.

"I had a good look at the Australian-based and Asian-based players in Korea and Hong Kong so this is a good opportunity for me to check the performance of the European-based players that I haven't seen since last October," Osieck said.
