DJ Diddy's silent night

Former Radio 1 DJ David 'Diddy' Hamilton, the match announcer at Craven Cottage for the last 14 years, couldn't play his part in Fulham's Europa League semi-final victory over Hamburg because his microphone didn't work.

Veteran broadcaster Hamilton couldn't get his mike fixed before kick-off on the club's greatest night, nor get much sound out of the security box system. As a result, he didn't call the famous goals or — even worse — introduce owner Mohamed Al Fayed's pre-match walkabout.

'Diddy' has already endured being moved into the stands from his regular seat in the fourth official's dug-out this year because Sky Sports complained it was becoming too congested.

He's not sitting in the stands. We can all see him pitchside when announcing subs etc. Pure bollox.

Actually, no, the report is pretty much on the money. Most games Diddy will do the pre-match and half time stuff from the touchline, then head into the lower part of the Riverside for the game itself. He stays between the dugouts if he can but that is becoming a rarity. He normally goes pitchside once the board goes up for stoppage time and crowds in with the first aiders.
On Thursday his mic was knocked out by the TV people on the touchlines, their radio-mics screwed up the Cottage PA system, so in the end Diddy headed off to the security office to annouce the teams over the safety tannoy.
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.

Seems so weird that they start using a difference frequency at this stage of the comp. The mics used are very short range and often settle on one frequency through-out .. as LH would say - it was a conspiracy.
