A lot of talk about Stuart drowning coming in on loan... No thanks

If it were stuart holden i might get excited, however two leg breaks and the club sticking by him, dont think he would come.
Self proclaimed tactical genius, football manager approved.

the downing that was at boro would not be to bad, the one from liverpool hss been hit and miss (more miss games), however he could be struggling with the price tag he was never a 20 million pound player. for the right fee could be worth a shot, i say could, i would prefer other targets.

Another wide player is the least of our requirements. No to Downing either on loan or purchase.

Not waving but Downing. Ugh. Perhaps we can pay Liverpoo to keep him away.

To the window by Fulham bringing in Amorebieta & Boateng on free transfers & signing the classy Riether. I wonder if we have a low budget this window though, if we do our focus should be Stekelenburg & keeping Manolev & Enoh for decent fees, I also think Babel on a free would be a decent deal, a promising start to the summer so far COYW

Not looking a gift horse in the mouth comes more to mind.

If you are going to be able to get out of contract players on frees, why would we want to be paying other clubs for players of a simular quality?

The trick is to get this business done early, before someone else snaps them up. Having done that the club will then know what positions they will have to invest our money on.

As to the amount of money available, I would believe it is elastic. Of course value for money will be the key but the management and owner are perfectly well aware that it should not be confused with cheapness, just as a big fee will not guarantee quality.

The one things all this does seem to show is that the club does have a plan for this window.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

On the budget amount. An interesting comment from MJ regarding Frimpong. "if we bought him for the required 6million, that would be most of our budget and I could get 4/5 players for that" It would suggest we have a budget of around 8 -10 million which includes projected wages

westcliff white

Do not get that comment at all Frimpong is out of contract come 1st July so the fee would not bee 6 million, it would be tribunal set if we cannot agree a fee with Arsenal.

Ive never seen that comment reported anywhere from MJ either, where was it said?

It was either the Sun or BBC ( in sportsday breaking news.) It was on the end of comments about Mark S contract discussion, about 2 days ago. I wish I cut and pasted it now

bulgariawhite

If I remember right. When we took Frimpong it was with the option of a further season loan. Which suggests he still has another year at Arsenal. There again my memory maybe playing games at the moment, with all the other rumours going on. I wait to be corrected

westcliff white

from what I can see his contract runs out 30/06/2013 the same day as his loan ends at fulham, becasue he is only 21 Arsenal are due compensation if he moves to another club in England, but not sure the 6 million arsenal want as it stands the fee would be set by a tribunal unless the 2 clubs come to an agreement.

Chelsea only paid £3.5 million for Sturridge - someone who had played a lot more league games at the time. The tribunal agreed fee would surely be less than that.

Cott no chance: Liverpool won't loan Stewart Downing to Fulham but are prepared to sell him
22 May 2013 22:30
Reds ready to part with winger they paid £20m for, but want some money for him PLUS Coates and Shelvey available too

Downing's treat? Fulham want to take Liverpool winger to London

Liverpool winger Stewart Downing is a loan target for Fulham.

But Cottagers boss Martin Jol is set to be frustrated, as the Reds want a transfer fee to part with the 28-year-old.

What do we think?

Well analysed.

I would add that this window also shows with the arrival of Boateng and strong rumours about Stekelenburg that we had plans for the previous windows that unfortunately did not quite come off so the abuse for Jol and MAF was unfair.

H3Matt

I'd pay them to keep him. He's awful.

Rather have Kaca !  049:gif

Ordar

Wouldnt be as bad a signing as will no doubt be made out.

His form noticeably picked up towards the end of the season, but I do agree that it seems like a pointless signing. With Dejagah and Kaca you would assume as the first choice wingers next year, with Frei, Mesca, Duff and Richardson as back up we're well covered wide.

Saying that, if we can pick Babel up on a free instead.... I would take a chance on him

EJL

Would be incredibly pointless.

My views on Downing are the same as those on Kieran Richardson. A waste of a pair of boots.

At least Richardson plays well at full-back.
