Martin Jol fears trouble if Fulham don't spend

Martin Jol hopes Fulham back him in the transfer market this summer, given that he could be about to lose a number of his squad.

Several players, including Sascha Riether, Giorgos Karagounis, and Mark Schwarzer are out of contract at the end of this season and Jol (right) fears the club could be in for a tough year if new signings are not made.

"If you lose seven or eight players of course you need five or six [to come in]," said Fulham's manager.

"Hopefully, you get players in who could be good and strengthen us. If not you have a problem."

Although Fulham lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool yesterday, they are realistically safe from relegation.

Fulham have lost six of their last seven games — and drawn the other.

Jol said: "We always knew the last seven or eight games — with Everton away, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool — could have been a heavy schedule, and it was. We were very happy to be on 40 points, the only disappointing thing is we couldn't get a result to be on 46 or 47."

Martin Jol issues call for transfer backing

Martin Jol has called for the Fulham board to back him by claiming the club need up to six new signings this summer.

The Craven Cottage boss has revealed the size of the rebuilding job he believes needs to be done to move the club forward after two years of treading water.
Jol is keen to avoid a repeat of this season's struggle for survival and already has one eye on the summer transfer market.

The Dutchman, by going public with his thoughts, has cranked up the pressure on the club's chairman and chief executive to back him with the funds to strengthen his squad.

Jol is still smarting from the loss of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey to Tottenham on transfer deadline day last August, particularly as it looked like the club had fought off Liverpool's interest in the American.

"We need four, five or six players but that's normal at any club," said Jol. "We need to strengthen.

"Our home form was always good last year. Last year we could score out of nothing; we had Clint Dempsey to score winners. With Dimitar Berbatov, we gained somebody who could score goals but we lost things in other areas."

Fulham Manager Martin Jol Linked With Vacant Everton Post

Fulham boss latest to be linked with Toffees job.

Fulham manager Martin Jol is the latest name to be linked with the soon to be vacant managerial post et Everton, according to The Express.

The 57-year-old has overseen a mid table finish in West London but has apparently impressed Everton chief Bill Kenwright for his ability to identify and sign future stars for a snip of what they will be worth.

Jol was in charge of Spurs when the club signed Gareth Bale for £10 million and was the manager of Ajax when they acquired Luis Suarez for just £4 million. Both players are now worth more than three times those fees, respectively, and Kenwright believes that he will be able to replicate the similar job David Moyes did.

Jol is reported to be frustrated at Fulham's reluctance to reinvest in the squad despite letting Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele leave for healthy fees and there are now question marks over the future of Dimitar Berbatov.

When asked about the link to the Everton position he said: "I wouldn't be embarrassed to be linked with them. Everton are a good club."

"If you look when I was at Hamburg and Ajax they had their best win percentages (more than 60 per cent). But I am here at Fulham, have one year left, I'm happy and my family is happy here."
