Club baffled as Fulham, Arsenal and Everton target goes awol

Transfer news: Zulte Waregem midfielder Junior Malanda has missed training amid reported interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

The 18-year-old Belgium Under-21 international is highly regarded in his homeland and has been linked with the likes of Fulham, Arsenal and Everton in recent weeks.

Zulte Waregem admit they are "surprised" by Malanda's absence but stress that they will welcome the player back into the squad.

A statement from the club read: "Junior Malanda today didn't show up for training. SV Zulte Waregem are surprised as there had been a perfect relationship with the player. We regret the current situation.

"The club want to ensure Malanda that he remains welcome and we will do everything to let the player return to the squad. SV Zulte Waregem have contacted the management of the player to try and find out what his motives are."

Coach Francky Drury, meanwhile, told RTBF: "I'm surprised. On Monday, we had a discussion with Malanda and his father but that did not yield much.

"I'm lost because I had a good talk with the player and I spent a lot of energy in the mediation process.

"I sense that we are now merely stumbling about in the dark over this situation."

Fulham youngster signs new contract and heads to Birmingham on loan

Transfer news: Fulham defender Dan Burn has signed a new contract with the Cottagers and move on loan to Birmingham City for next season.

Burn spent the last campaign on loan at Yeovil Town and helped them winpromotion to the Championship.

The 21-year-old's progress has earned him a new two-year contract at Fulham and he will experience Championship football with Birmingham next season.

Burn told Fulham's official website: "I was really excited to sign a new deal. I had a season on loan last season and was hoping that a new contract would come in the summer as my target is still to play in the Barclays Premier League with Fulham, which gives me a couple more years to achieve that aim."

"Fulham wanted me to progress and learn from different coaches and different players, so it will be a great experience."

Schalke maintain hopes of signing Riether

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt is still pursuing Sascha Riether and hopes to complete a deal to sign the Fulham defender.

The Germany international drew plaudits for his performances during a season-long loan at Craven Cottage last season.

Riether's form saw him earn a permanent switch from Cologne, which was confirmed in May.

However, Schalke offer the 30-year-old full-back the chance of playing in the UEFA Champions League and are intent on bringing Riether back to Germany despite Fulham's reluctance to discuss a deal.

Heldt told kicker-Sportmagazin: "In the case of Sascha Riether we have not made any progress.

"There will be no imminent deal, but we are keeping tabs on the situation and are still hopeful that we will agree a transfer in the end."

Riether appeared 35 times for Martin Jol's side in the Premier League last season, scoring one goal.

Fulham, West Ham, Everton, West Brom and Hull target 'not for sale'

Transfer news: Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has reiterated that in-demand striker Jordan Rhodes is going nowhere this summer.

The Scotland international smashed 27 goals for the Championship side last season and has been linked with the likes of Fulham, West Ham, Everton, West Brom and Hull in recent months.

Blackburn paid £8million to take the prolific 23-year-old from Huddersfield last summer, and Bowyer has warned his suitors that the Ewood Park outfit are not contemplating selling their prized asset.

Bowyer told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'll keep on having to say it until the end of August - he's not for sale.

"I've spoken to Jordan and he's more than happy here."

Go For Bent!

If Martin Jol is looking to bolster our attacking force, then could he do worse than taking a punt on Darren Bent?

Already mentioned in dispatches as a possible Fulham target, it now looks as if the field is clear for somebody to make a swoop to land the former England international.

It is being reported that Bent`s situation, at Aston Villa, is so bad that he`s now being asked to vacate the first team dressing room and train away from the first team squad, by Paul Lambert.

Therefore, I reckon a quick swoop, at a sensible price, could end his Villa nightmare.

How about you?

Transfer News: Former Fulham keeper Csaba Somogyi in RKC Waalwijk talks

Fulham's out of contract goalkeeper Csaba Somogyi has opened negotiations with Dutch side RKC Waalwijk.

It is claimed in Hungary that the 28-year-old was invited for talks with the Dutch team after Fulham manager Martin Jol recommended him to his former club.

The current Waalwijk coach knows Hungarian football well, as Erwin Koeman was the national coach of Hungary from 2008 until 2010.

"We've started talks, but so far there's no result. I've been at Waalwijk now for a week and my future might be decided within a couple of days," - Somogyi told www.origo.hu.

Newcastle deal in the balance because of Aston Villa demands

Fulham and Newcastle's pursuit of Darren Bent is hanging in the balance, after Aston Villa slapped an £8m valuation on the striker, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Premier League duo were believed to be keen on the ex-England international, who has been cast into the wilderness at Villa Park under Paul Lambert.

As a result, he was expected to be allowed to move on this summer, but the Midlanders are not willing to let him go on the cheap.

A figure of around £5m had been rumoured as an acceptable sum, but now reports suggest that the fee will be significantly higher.

Both Fulham and Newcastle have baulked at the demands, and believe that the 29-year-old's worth has been inflated.

The former Tottenham man is currently earning £65,000-per-week at Villa, and the club are said to be desperate to remove this from their expenditure.

The player himself is also hopeful of moving on, which had led to speculation that a deal could be best for both parties.

Newcastle were believed to be winning the battle for his signature, but their interest could cool unless demands are lowered.

The same is true for Fulham, with manager Martin Jol thought to have a restricted budget to work with in the coming months.

Is Darren Bent worth £8m?

Crystal Palace want Manchester United's Wilfried Zaha back on loan

Prem new boys out to borrow the winger for second time since selling him in January - but Fulham and West Ham are keen too

Fulham, West Ham and Crystal Palace are all waiting to find out whether new Manchester United manager David Moyes is ready to send Wilfried Zaha out on loan.

All three clubs have submitted bids to offer the 20-year-old wonderkid regular first-team football next season.

Zaha, bought by then-United boss Alex Ferguson in January but loaned back to south Londoners Palace for the second half of last season, wants to stay at the Old Trafford giants.

But with Moyes looking at more experienced players, it is not certain Zaha will get the regular action at the champions he will be looking for.

Although United have begun their pre-season, Zaha is still on holiday after playing for England at last month's European Under-21 Championship.

The clubs chasing him will only discover whether their loan bid has been successful once Moyes has had a chance to assess him in pre-season.

Rookie Williams a Victory target

Fulham rookie Ryan Williams could become the next Young Socceroos ace to join the A-League with Ange Postecoglou keen to bring him to Melbourne Victory.

The brother of Socceroos defender Rhys Williams, 19-year-old flier Ryan caught Postecoglou's attention at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey where Australia bowed out at the group stage.

The wide midfielder hinted after Australia's exit that he would be keen on a loan spell at an A-League club, with his deal at Craven Cottage - where he is a part of the under-21 team - still having a year to run.

But it's believed that Postecoglou wants the Subiaco-born Williams, who joined Pompey 18 months ago, as a permanent fixture, creating a possible stumbling block to any deal.

"I love Australia and the A-League has gone through the roof, there's loads of (overseas) clubs watching so it's something I'm thinking pretty strongly about," Williams told News Ltd after the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

West Australian Williams joined Pompey in 2010 on a scholarship and made four appearances for the first team before leaving for Fulham in January 2012. Last season Fulham loaned him out briefly to League Two Gillingham.

Fulham weigh up Enoh move

Eyong Enoh

FULHAM boss Martin Jol is torn between coughing up £2million for Eyong Enoh – or letting the midfielder return to Ajax.

The manager admitted that by signing the 27-year-old, he might have to accommodate a different midfield set-up that boasted only one long-term contract player at the end of the season.

The way the manager sees it, signing Enoh gets him a player whose strengths over nine Fulham games since joining on loan in January were all in defensive midfield.

Jol would prefer a creative player in the centre of the park on his limited budget – but can see the positives in Enoh other managers failed to recognise.

"If you want big stars in that position (centre midfield) you have to pay a lot of money," the manager said.

"That is why you have to gamble and take players when they are bad sometimes.

"He (Enoh) was bad at Ajax, and they have (Christian) Poulsen in his position – a Danish international.

"When I got him, you hope that he will be good. And he has proved it.

"We tried to get an option to sign him permanently - and we have one.

"But we have always had link up players in that position. Danny Murphy was not a defensive player – he was a playmaker. I had Michael Carrick at Spurs, he was a playmaker. Enoh is different and we have to make a decision. I can't tell you now."

Sources in Holland claim Enoh wants a permanent return to Craven Cottage after his registration went through with 20 minutes left of the January transfer window.

Turkish Besiktas Still Woos Bulgarian Football Star Berbatov

Bulgarian star striker Dimitar Berbatov is the primary aim on the transfer list of Turkish Super League football team Besiktas.

Besiktas will still apply effort to attract Berbatov even though the footballer's agent already confirmed that the Bulgarian will stay with the English Fulham.

The Turkish team was interested in the 32-year-old while he was still a "Manchester United" player, but the transfer never happened, BGNES reported.

Besiktas wants to increase its revenue from seasonal tickets by attracting big names to generate interest, local media reported.

Another alternative for the Turkish team is Duvan Zapata from Estudiantes, who is just 22 years old, but would cost only EUR 3-4 M.

Berbatov's agent, Emil Danchev, has confirmed earlier that his client will stay at Fulham for another season.

"Berbatov has a contract with Fulham for one more year and he intends to comply with it," Danchev told Russian reporters, as cited by Dnevnik.bg.

"He's happy at Fulham and he wants to stay another year," he said.

The agent refused to comment on other clubs' interests in signing the striker.

He explained that Berbatov, 32, will "continue playing football for at least two years."

Danchev did not rule out the possibility of Berbatov moving to Russia at a later stage of his career.

Here's Damien Duff modelling the new Fulham kit as only Duffer can

We just don't get to see enough of the winger now he has retired from international football.

Between Fulham's games usually being the last ones out on Match of the Day and his retirement from Ireland duty, we just don't get to see enough Damien Duff anymore.

Easily one of the most popular footballers in the game, among fans and fellow pros, the 34-year-old is about to embark on his 17th season in the English game, with Fulham.

And today the Londoners launched their new kit for the season, featuring all the usual promo shots, including this one where Duff, plus Steve Sidwell and Bryan Ruiz, look all mean and moody in their rather snazzy new adidas kit.

But it is this shot, featured in a 'behind-the-scenes' gallery on the Fulham site, which we really like. Don't ever change Duffer.
