Marathonbet Becomes Fulham's Main Team Sponsor

Fulham Football Club have welcomed Marathonbet as its Main Team Sponsor.

The deal, which is the biggest in the club's history, will see the Marathonbet logo displayed on the playing shirts worn by the club's First Team and its U21s for the next two seasons, with an option on a third year.

Today's announcement is also the first time the club's new adidas home kit has been revealed to fans.

Established in 1997, Marathonbet the global sports-book. offers customers a wide range of live sport betting, with an unrivalled number of in-play markets to choose from.

Fulham finished the last Barclays Premier League campaign in 12th position and will be competing for a thirteenth consecutive season this year. Fulham announce biggest deal in club's history

Premier League side Fulham FC have completed their largest ever commercial deal, signing Marathonbet as their new main sponsor.

The west London club has signed the sports betting firm to a two-year deal, which includes an option to extend for a further year. During that time Marathonbet's logo will be displayed on the shirts of the first team and under-21s.

Marathonbet replaces FXPro as Fulham's main sponsor. The foreign exchange company had held the role for the past three seasons.

Although the new deal was described as the 'biggest in the club's history', financial terms were not released.

Fulham's chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said: "I'm delighted that Marathonbet has joined us as our main team sponsor and we look forward to working with them in the future. As a dynamic and inventive brand, I believe that Marathonbet shares the club's objectives in terms of development and innovation."

Birmingham City: New signing Dan Burn looking for Blues aerial power

Birmingham City's new signing 6ft 7in Dan Burn tells BBC WM that, alongside 6ft 8in striker Nikola Zigic, Blues could prove a threat from set-pieces next season.

Transfer news: Manchester City's Abdisalam Ibrahim extends Stromsgodset loan

Manchester City midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim has extended his loan with Norwegian club Stromsgodset until December.

However, Sky Sports understands there is a clause inserted into the deal which allows him to leave this summer if a Premier League club makes an offer.

A host of top-flight clubs in England are thought to be keeping tabs on Ibrahim, who has been outstanding for Stromsgodset this season.

The 22-year-old has been instrumental in helping his current side to the top of the Eliteserien table and scouts have been flocking to watch him action.

The likes of Everton, Swansea, Fulham, West Brom, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have all been linked with a move for the powerful midfielder, while Scottish champions Celtic are monitoring his situation as they see him as a possible replacement for Victor Wanyama.

Ibrahim is entering the final year of his contract at City and he is waiting to find out if he figures in new coach Manuel Pellegrini's long-term plans.

The Norwegian's suitors are now waiting in the wings to try and land Ibrahim on a loan deal or on a permanent basis if City decide to let him leave.

The Whites will face two European opponents at Craven Cottage this August in the lead up to the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League campaign.

All white, I suppose: Fulham unveil their new kit

Fulham are the latest team to unveil their new home shirt for next season - and they've surprised nobody by sticking with white.

The kit does feature, however, a patch of black in a V-shape around the collar, while adidas stripes line the shoulder blades.

Furthermore, the ends of each sleeve also have a black trim.

However, fans may be taken aback by the red stripes that run down the side of the shorts, matching the club's badge.

The London side also used the occassion to announce Marathonbet as their new sponsors and Alistair Mackintosh, Fulham's chief executive officer, said: "I am delighted that Marathonbet has joined us as our Main Team Sponsor and we look forward to working with them in the future.

Zaha Possibility!
   
Last season, Wilfired Zaha had the distinction of becoming the last player signed by Sir Alex Ferguson before he slipped away into retirement.

Manchester United paid £15 million for the Crystal Palace youngster before loaning him back to the Selhurst Park outfit for the remainder of the season during which he more than played his part in helping Crystal Palace, under Ian Holloway, make a return to the Premier League.

Now with Sir Alex Ferguson gone and with David Moyes in charge, rumours are afoot that Moyes may decide to let Zaha spend further time out on loan to ensure that he gets regular first team football.

Several names are mentioned including a return to Palace or a spell at West Ham or Craven Cottage.

If Moyes does decide to let Zaha go out on loan, can Martin Jol use all of his persuasive powers to bring him to Craven Cottage?

Perhaps with the two clubs (United and Fulham) having successfully done business in the past with the Edwin Van Der Sar, Louis Saha and Dimitar Berbatov moves, we may have a small advantage.

How About Hooper?
   
If Martin Jol is looking to bolster his striker force, following the surprise release of Mladen Petric, after one season, could he do worse than look north of the border?

Since moving to Glasgow Celtic, from Scunthorpe United, Gary Hooper has continued to show that he is one of the best finishers in the business.

Having spent time in the Scottish Premier League, speculation is rife that Hooper is looking towards a return to English football with three clubs said to be interested in acquiring his services, namely, Hull City, Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers.

With a price of £5 million being mentioned, could Martin Jol do worse than take a punt on Hooper?

Long, Slow Goodbye

We knew it was coming, but earlier this week on the 1st of July – the typical date of expiring contracts – Fulham confirmed the releases of first team squad members  Mark Schwarzer, Mladen Petric, Chris Baird, Simon Davies, Gorgios Karagounis and Csaba Somogyi, along with Alex Smith, Tom Donegan, Corey Gameiro, James Musa and Richard Peniket, who featured in the development squad (note that Diarra isn't on the list). I think that every Fulham fan to a man anticipated the releases of the senior players, and had done so for some time, but it doesn't make it much easier to swallow. Even though it's entirely cliche and every fan with a blog/twitter account/messageboard moniker will have done one, here's my goodbye to those who've left.

Mark Schwarzer: What a guy. To be honest, when he first signed I was distinctly underwhelmed. I was a pretty ignorant of players outside of Fulham and the Champions League, so when I heard we signed a 35 year old keeper who was woeful on Football Manager I was profoundly irritated, with a real sense of entitlement that we should show signs of progress after our great escape. I don't think I've ever judged anything more wrong. Over the five years he has demonstrated that he is an exceptionally competent goalkeeper and a consumate professional with a fitness and athleticism that would make most 20 year olds look like Robert Chew in comparison. In his first couple of seasons I don't think it's unfair to claim that he was one of the top four or five keepers in the league, and even though his performances dropped off steadily in the years after that, they were incremental, and he displayed his ability on numerous occasions last season. The QPR and Arsenal penalty saves stand out in my mind, and it was great he could sign off with MotM display at Swansea in May. I think that ever since January and our determination to sign Stekelenberg was revealed, his days were numbered, and it's no surprise he rejected our contract offer, as he did to Bayern Munich and Juventus for us back in '08, for guaranteed first team football. I think he's replacement is more than capable, but I'm sad to see Schwarzer leave regardless. A natural time for separation  and I wish him all the best.

Simon Davies: After struggling at Spurs and then Everton, Simon Davies must have been wondering why he left the cushy position of the bench for our relegation battles – we were confined to them in the first 18 months of his time with us – but it is fair to say that Fulham was the making of him. A player with much promise but not a lot to show for it, Davies came in to his own at Fulham. Demonstrating great technique, great passion, and great ability, his lack of pace as a wide man did not hinder his game. To be honest, there is not much I can say here that I didn't say in my salute to him last year, but what memories he left us! That wonder goal against Reading, what wonderful technique, for a struggling Lawrie Sanchez; the ball through to Nevland in the reverse fixture that season; his deliveries to McBride in the great escape; and the goals in the Europa League... well, they speak for themselves. We owe some of the most wonderful Fulham moments in recent history to this man, and it is really quite sad that his injuries over the last couple of seasons have meant he has almost become a forgotten part of our squad. Let us make sure we remember his contributions.

Chris Baird: Lawrie Sanchez signed him as a right back and initially it was proving to be perhaps one of the worst decisions of all time. The absolute roasting from Petrov in one of his first games aside, Baird was abysmal in an unfamiliar role (he's a centre half by trade) and the situation was desperate enough that Roy Hodgson recruited Paul Stalteri to replace him. With those performances however came the most unfortunate and shameful abuse. It was genuinely embarrassing to hear a player's name booed as it was spoken over the speakers, especially someone who had shown no disrespect or disloyalty to the club. That was as low as it got though, and in the seasons since Baird has shown to be a versatile, professional footballer of some ability. Although he will probably leave being best remembered for smacking Bullard in the nose, he played his role in the most fruitful period of Fulham's history, setting the stage for a top 10 finish with two brilliant long range strikes against Stoke (eat your heart our Riise) over the 10/11 season, and being the midfield anchor in our win over Juventus – perhaps the most standout result we've ever had. It's truly a zero to hero story, and I'm very disappointed to see him leave because I feel his versatility means there is a role for him to play in our squad, but he deserves to play football and so I hope he finds somewhere where he can enjoy himself. All the best to Chris 'Bairdinho' Baird.

Mladen Petric: Petric's career never really took off at Fulham, although it threatened to. I was excited to see him join because of his reputation as a prolific goalscorer, but really when Berbatov joined his days were numbered. Jol would always prefer Berba and Ruiz up top, leaving no room for the Croat apart from on the bench, and as his minutes dwindled so did his performances. Still, he seemed like a good character and didn't complain about his bit part role, so one can only give a fond farewell.

Giorgos Karagounis: This fella defines Greek theatre. His pantomime dives and pleads to the referees will stick in my mind. Karagounis was really signed as a stop gap after the midfield was ripped apart in the Summer, and although he was never expected to make an enormous contribution to the first team he had a surprising impact, and his work rate and personality endeared him to the fans. A fine passer, he could never really reach the heights of Danny Murphy – of similar age and pedigree – but his two stunning goals were a couple of standout moments from the entirety of last season. All the best, Giorgos!

Csaba Somogyi: This is awkward. Although he was Martin Jol's first signing, he never played a minute for the first team. I think Jol was hoping he had unearthed a rough diamond, but really it was more like a rotten carrot. Still, he must have had something to get a year's contract extension, and hopefully he finds better somewhere than Dartford to move to next season.

As for the youngsters, it's a shame to see Tom Donegan be release. He was the man of the match when Fulham met Everton in the youth cup game a couple of seasons back, but it appears he couldn't build on that promise. Alex Smith was always competing with Matty Briggs at left back and there was only one winner there, although he looked to have something about him when he made a cameo appearance against West Brom back in August. I think he's signed at Leyton Orient, so all the best to him. Richard Peniket joined from Walsall for a fair fee as we fended off competition from the likes of Manchester United, but he never really kicked on and after some disappointing loan spells out at non-league clubs, it's no surprise to see him go. Corey Gameiro is I think another one who couldn't really get any momentum going, but apparently he's signed a deal back in his native Australia, so congratulations to him. Finally, James Musa showed enough promise at the Olympics last year for the club to invest in him for a season but ultimately showed he wasn't up to the challenge. Another Australasian, let's see if his career can pick up once again like compatriot and fellow defender Winston Reid.

Academy Insight

After Fulham's recent success – winning back-to-back Barclays Under 18 Premier League titles , following the U19s' success in the prestigious Dallas Cup in March - we catch up some of the Academy staff to find out what it takes to become a top young player.

With a lot of success coming to the Fulham Academy in recent years, Mark Pembridge, Manager of the Under-16s, is proud to have played a part in developing some of the players of the future.

As with the more senior teams, the focus is on the team ethic and building a player both on and off the pitch. And Pembridge is well placed to impart his ideas on the young Whites as he was a former player with the Club for four years from 2003-2007.

"It's very much about the team ethic and that stems down all the way through the Club," he says. "At the end of the day a player has to have an individual skill – whether it's defending, pace, finishing or whatever – but they have to learn how to play as part of a team as well.

"The ability for a player to know what they are going to do before he gets the ball is key. So they can see ahead of the game and they have two or three options on when they get it. It's my job at 15 or 16, to show them the options. It's down to them which one they choose, but we show them how to make sure their body shape is in the right position to give them the best opportunity.

"It depends on where you play these days, but pace is important – especially on the wing and at full-back. Even as a centre-half you have to have a reasonable turn of pace, though, so it's a lot different from when I was playing."

At Fulham, we don't just build footballers, we build good people as well and Pembridge knows what an important role the Club plays in a young player's life.

"At 15 or 16 we see them every day except Sunday," he says. "The Club is a big influence on their life at that age and there is still a principle set out that 'you clean the match footballs after games'; 'you pick up the training balls and make sure that all the bibs and cones are out on the pitch'; 'you make sure the drinks are there'.

"Hopefully, with them thinking ahead, it gives them a bit of discipline off the field and so when they get on the pitch, they think ahead a bit as well. All those little things come into it, especially at Under-16 level, to ensure that they get to where they need to be on time."

If the chance comes around to make the step up to the Under-18s, Under-21s or even the First Team, they have to be prepared and that is what the job of coaching is all about.

"Players have to be thinking that if there a chance to play in the next team above then they will be ready," he adds. "Because that gets to the serious part of the business as they have a chance to become scholars, get paid and try to become professional footballers."

The secret of Fulham's Academy success, though, is being able to communicate efficiently with the other departments around the Club; something Pembridge believes sets us apart from our rivals.

"We've got a good working relationship amongst everybody: from the scouting department, to the strength and conditioning, to the match analysis, to the coaches, to the office staff," he says. "The good thing about it is that you can speak your mind without upsetting people. If I'm wrong then I want someone to tell me. I think that builds a good team: from the Academy Director [Huw Jennings] to Steve [Wigley, Under-18s Manager], we all work well together."

Transfer News: Stephane Mbia and Samba Diakite could be next out at QPR

Stephane Mbia and Samba Diakite could be the next big-name departures from Queens Park Rangers, but both players could remain in England.

Sky Sports understands there is interest from the continent in the duo, who both joined Rangers last summer, but it seems that the pair could be heading back to the Premier League.

Interest in former Marseille star Mbia is strong, and his ability to play in defence or midfield looks to be a major draw, with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Swansea City all believed to be considering moves for the Cameroon international.

Sources close to the player have confirmed that the 27-year-old is settled in England and would relish the chance to stay in the Premier League, although the prospect of playing in the Championship with QPR is not thought to appeal.

With Mbia one of the higher earners, it is unlikely that QPR will stand in his way if interest should become concrete, and the same is believed to be the case for Diakite.

Fulham and Stoke, where Mark Hughes, who signed Diakite for QPR, is now manager, are both understood to be keeping close tabs on his situation and could be set to make offers for the 24-year-old.

Fulham Leading The Chase For Tottenham Midfielder Scott Parker

Craven Cottage side edge ahead of QPR in chase for White Hart Lane veteran.


Fulham are ahead of QPR and Sunderland in the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker this summer, according to the Daily Mail.


The England international has struggled with injuries since his deadline day move to Tottenham in August 2011, and has lost his place in the Spurs line-up under manager Andre Villas-Boas. Parker, 32, is behind Sandro, Lewis Holtby, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Moussa Dembele in the Tottenham pecking order, and is seeking a move away from White Hart Lane in search of more regular first team football.

QPR want Parker to drop down into the Championship under former manager Harry Redknapp, however, Parker is reluctant to do so. With the hopes of securing a World Cup squad place, Parker wishes to remain in the Premier League to give himself the best possible chance of making the team, which was incidentally the reason he left West Ham in the summer of 2011, following their relegation.

Sunderland too remain interested in signing the combative midfielder, who is available for as little as £2million this summer, but are unwilling to match Parker's £80,000-a-week wages as Paolo Di Canio continues his squad overhaul at the Stadium of Light. Fulham remain favourites to sign Parker, as they are the best placed club of the three. With a history of attracting the older, experienced player too the club, with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov already at the club, it may be Parker's best chance of first team football in Fulham's lack-luster midfield core.

With the imminent arrival of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians for £17million, the likes of Scott Parker, Tom Huddlestone and Clint Dempsey could be forced to find new clubs this summer, as competition for minutes in a Tottenham team rebuilding for a Champions League challenge.

Good To Be Back

Friday morning saw the majority of the Fulham squad return to the Training Ground as the hard work ahead of the 2013/14 campaign commenced.

The boys were put through their paces in the beaming sunshine at Motspur Park in their first pre-season training session, and fulhamfc.com caught up with Captain Brede Hangeland afterwards.

"It's very good to be back and it's nice to be with the boys again," Brede told the official website. "I think everyone has had a good break so we're ready to go again.

"It's nice weather so it was a great day to start pre-season. I think everyone enjoyed it – it wasn't too hard so we were easing ourselves back into it and everyone looked fit and happy, so everything's good.

"Maarten Stekelenburg was here and Derek Boateng also so it was good to meet them. They seem like nice guys and we're happy to have them here."

The squad will continue to train at Motspur until they fly out to Costa Rica next week, where the friendly schedule begins with a trio of matches against native sides.

It promises to be a productive trip in an exotic location, and it's one that Hangeland and his teammates are eagerly anticipating.

"I think everyone is looking forward to it," he admitted. "There are plenty of places you can go in the world but I'm sure that, apart from Bryan Ruiz, most of us won't have been to Costa Rica before, so I'm looking forward to that.

"Most importantly, though, we're there to do some good training. Bryan's told us how nice a place it is and that it's going to be warm, with good conditions, so it's something that we're all quite excited about."

Brede was sporting the new adidas Training Kit on Friday and, having modelled the brand new Home Kit too, he's well placed to give his take on adidas' creations for the Club.

"It's all great," Hangeland said. "We were using the new training gear today and everyone was really pleased with it so we look forward to training in it throughout the season.

"And, of course, we're keen to try out the new Home Kit in the upcoming matches as it looks and feels great."

A number of Premier League clubs are awaiting Man Utd new boss David Moyes decision on loan opportunity

A large number of Premier League clubs are eagerly awaiting Manchester United's new boss David Moyes' first interaction with new signing Wilfried Zaha to see if the 50 year old Scot believes the player is ready to be unleashed in a Red Devils jersey this season, or whether he will be made available on loan to gain some invaluable top flight experience.

The 20 year old England international was snapped up by United last winter for a fee believed to be close to 15 million pounds, but the Red Devils allowed him to finish the season with Crystal Palace, and the youngster aided his club's promotion bid in what was no doubt a breakthrough season.

However, the Premier League is a completely different kettle of fish, and whether Zaha is quite up to that level yet remains to be seen. Palace are hoping United allow them to take the player back for a second loan spell, but Fulham and West Ham are also reportedly waiting in the wings, as they believe they can offer something different to help aid Zaha's development, and are also keen on taking the player on loan for the 2013-14 season.

Fulham to fail in Romanian chase

An un-named Portuguese club are expected to beat Fulham to the £1.5million signing of Marius Alexe from Dinamo Bucharest.

Fulham were understood to be in talks over a transfer for the 23-year-old forward after watching the Romanian international impress in Wednesday night's 3-0 friendly win over Livingston. But Dinamo coach George Multescu revealed that a mystery Portuguese bidder was now in pole position to complete the swoop, despite the interest of three teams from England.
