Fulham prepare fresh Huddlestone move as they close in on Sako

he Cottagers will make another attempt to capture the Tottenham midfielder after failing to land him in January, and remain in the hunt for Wolves' Belgian attacker

EXCLUSIVE
By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent

Fulham are preparing a fresh Tom Huddlestone swoop as they close in on the signing of Bakary Sako, Goal understands.

The Cottagers had a £6 million bid for Huddlestone rejected by Tottenham in January after they learned Sandro would miss the rest of the season through injury.
But the England international remains top of Fulham's midfield shortlist and the club are ready to make another move for a player who is a big favourite of manager Martin Jol.

Fulham are expected to start the bidding at around the £5m mark as they attempt to bring greater creativity to their midfield.

The west London club are also in the market for a wide player and remain in talks with Wolves to sign the 25-year-old Belgian Sako.

The unsettled winger has publically appealed to the League One club to lower the asking price for his services in order to force through a move to the Premier League.

Wolves want £4m for Sako but Fulham would prefer a structured deal that would include a cash sum of around £2.5m supplemented by performance-related add-ons.

Cottagers chiefs remain confident an agreement can be reached with the Black Country club, and are also hopeful that Huddlestone is keen to re-unite with his former Spurs manager Jol in order to play regular football.

Spurs are likely to demand £6m once again for the 26-year-old, who has two years remaining on his current deal.

Huddlestone has also attracted strong interest from Sunderland, but Fulham believe the combined prospect of remaining in London and working with Jol once more could be enough to sway the player.

Burn Explains Brum Decision

Fulham centre-back Dan Burn has explained some of the thinking behind his switch from Yeovil Town to Birmingham City for the 2013-14 season. Having spent the bulk of the 2012-13 campaign on loan at Huish Park, as part of his playing development, the 21 year old had an opportunity to return to the club, but instead switched to St Andrews for the forthcoming campaign.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Burn admitted the temptation was to return to a place that he was comfortable with, but said that the advice he had received from his parent club was that he needed to test himself in different situations within a new environment as part of his learning about the game:

"I had the option to go back there. And in some ways I did want to go back there because I knew all the lads and stuff, I got on well with the manager. I just felt I needed a new experience. I've signed a new deal with Fulham and they said I needed to keep progressing. And I felt this, joining Birmingham, will help me, a new manager, new players, maybe a new formation. I need to widen the scope of my game."

Burn added that he knew that there were risks to moving to a new club in that he would start off as a 'new boy' with no past reputation to help carry him through the early games.

"I got on well with everyone down there (at Yeovil). It's more or less starting from square one, where you have got to build the trust of your team-mates and obviously I have got to get the fans on my side, show them what I can do. I see it as a step up, playing for a club with a big history. Obviously the manager has said we're going to have a young, hungry team and Birmingham are going to aim high this season. I want to be part of that."

"We're still working on one or two," Jol told the club's official website.

Fulham get their Premier League campaign underway at Sunderland on August 17.

Sidwell on Mark Schwarzer's Fulham exit

Fulham midfielder Steve Sidwell joined the Transfer Tavern to share his thoughts on the club's new signings and current players.

Sidewell says he is sorry to see veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer leave the club after the Australian failed to come to an agreement to extend his contract with the Cottagers.

He adds that he looks forward to working with new goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who moved to Craven Cottage on a free transfer this summer.

Sidwell also shares his thoughts on Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea, as the Portuguese coach signed the midfielder during his first stint at Stamford Bridge before.

Liverpool ready to send Andre Wisdom out on loan with Fulham and Wigan keen

Boss Brendan Rodgers is keen for the young star to get more game time - and Owen Coyle is at the head of the queue to take him on

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to send England Under-21 starlet Andre Wisdom out on loan – with Owen Coyle's Wigan heading the race, writes Alan Nixon of the Sunday People.

Rodgers wants highly-rated Wisdom to play every week so he is ready for a quick recall if needed.

The Latics, who also have the attraction of European football to offer next season, are favourites to land the young Yorkshireman and play him at centre-half.

Fulham have also asked about Wisdom, who played for Liverpool last season and impressed at right-back, but Rodgers wants him to go to a Championship side.

The 20-year-old has made 19 starts for Liverpool since his debut in 2010.
