Benefits of owning a football team

Clearly we have an owner who is going to treat us like a business, therefore he is going to expect to benefit financially from FFC by taking cash  out of the club for his own benefit. Cash coming in to the club to buy players therefore will always be at a minimum. Being in the PL is a cash cow, being in the Europa League isn't, unless you get to the latter stages but even then the prize money is relatively small. So unless we get into the Champions League, which we clearly won't with the current set up then we are left with PL survival as the amount of cash required to push on "to the next level" would not represent a significant increase in income.

So, why buy a football club? Why buy Fulham? At some point the money bubble will burst, it has to, when though is another matter. I'm guessing at some point each club will generate its own TV income, for team like Fulham, may not be a good thing, Man U, Arse and the usual top 4 this would be a huge benefit for them, bit like the Spanish clubs.

So have we plateaued as a club already? Our glory moments reduced to beating the top 4?

Loved the climb through the leagues, loved the CHampionship winning season (actually loved the midweek games with crowds of 2000 on a freezing night in December in Div 4 just as much), maybe relegation  is the answer, opportunity to actually win something again or at least get promoted and win more than 12 games a season. Just thinking out loud.

Putting tin hat on for suggesting the "R" word!

Why buy Fulham? This Al-Fayed bloke is a business man, hes just going to turn the club into flats.

Point is, we dont know Khan's plans and with only 3 months ownership, don't you think its a little too early to speculate?
Self proclaimed tactical genius, football manager approved.

Your premise isn't supported by facts or history.  Premier teams don't make money. At best they break even.

Khan hasn't loaded debt on FFC to finance his purchase of the club. He's unlikely to make money from owning it.

Count Berbatov

It's free advertising what it is. You make your self and your business known.

Berbatov has Cantona's knack of being the man amid a stampede towards the door who stops to notice a side exit that nobody else has seen.

Jonathan Northcroft on Berbatov:  "...like a man in silk pyjamas shooting pigeons from a deckchair"

You look at someone like Abramovic, before he bought Chelsea there were only a handful of people who knew who he was - even though he was one of the richest people on the planet. He buys Chelsea (importantly being a London club), spends a bit of cash, and suddenly everybody knows who he is. He is hosting the rich, famous, powerful and world leaders in the corporate box - before that most people on that list would not want to be associated with a 'Russian crook' (no idea if he was or not - just a stereotype).

So for someone who has more money than they could ever want, it gives them something they don't have, exposure and access.

I believe it was Richard Branson who was asked 'How do you become a millionaire?' The response was 'Start off as a billionaire then start up your own airline'.

It's all about ego and profile.

The title of this post always makes me laugh as Everton were available to buy at the same time and most of their support are on benefits.
