Exclusive - Groves: Berbatov move to Arsenal is a 'no-brainer'

Perry Groves believes Arsenal should try their best to lure Dimitar Berbatov to the Emirates if they want to boost their chances of winning the Premier League.

The Gunners are currently top, one point ahead of Manchester City, and have been linked with a host of strikers as the January transfer window looms large.

But Groves told Drive Time they would be wise to steal the veteran Bulgarian from Fulham for around £2million, with the forward known to fancy a move away from the relegation threatened Cottagers.

"The top teams aren't going to let their best players go and you want quality to go in. You could probably get him [Berbatov] for a million or £2m for the last six months of his contract," the Arsenal legend said.

"He is in a team that's struggling because he won't close full-backs down, he won't go in the channels. But I think, he thinks he's too good for Fulham. Sometimes his body language is, 'what am I doing here? They can't even feed me the ball'.

"If he goes to Arsenal he's not going to think he's better technically than the Arsenal players, he'll think, 'oh I've got players on my level'. Basically it's a no brainer. If you got a year-and-a-half out of him, which I think you can, then he will be a brilliant option if you want to rest [Olivier] Giroud. He wouldn't alter the team pattern at all."

Aaron Hughes believes Fulham are ready to roar
AARON HUGHES reckons in-form Fulham are ready to tame the Tigers today.

Despite their lowly position, the Cottagers are flying following their 2-1 win at Norwich on Boxing Day.

And defender Hughes thinks Hull could be next in line for a beating.

"Our confidence is as high as it has been all season," he said.

"Our football in recent games has been positive and we have been playing really well.

"We are looking up, rather than behind us and we want to keep the momentum going.

"So we will go to Hull, play our football and make sure we don't lose.

"And if we put in a performance like we did at Norwich, I'm confident we will get something out of the game."

The Northern Ireland star also insists his side's change in fortunes is all down to new manager Rene Meulensteen.

Hughes added: "He is always looking to play in a positive way.

"The lads have all bought into it and we have tried to do it in games."
