Have to say I'm pleased in that he's going to give it a go.  Comes with some heavyweight support no doubt but I've always found him likeable enough.  Pity though we couldn't have offloaded a few of our old lags in his direction.  To meet his objective of a multi-national team we could have bunged Berba, and Senderos at him for a holiday in the sun but still time to present the credentials of Rodalegga, Amorbieta, Richardson, John Arne, Bent, Zverotic and Boateng.  £5M the lot!

He doesn't even know where his team's stadium will be built yet. Anyway, I doubt MLS could be conned into paying that much for those players. MLS is at least smart enough, for the most part, to spend on foreign players that spin the turnstiles. That's seven players in your list that are better left in Europe.

One would think. But the league has already shuttered a franchise in Miami once before. Success isn't as certain as one would expect.

They have a lot of marketing work to do. Funding the stadium privately is a big step in the right direction.

The assumption that the large Hispanic population in the U.S. will drive the popularity and financial success of professional soccer in the U.S. has proven to be a non-starter, as the connection of second- and third-generation Hispanics in the U.S. to soccer is generally quite weak and is often overshadowed by "American football", and recent Hispanic immigrants tend to retain their allegiances to (and interest in) the big clubs in LatAm and Spain which they supported/followed in their native countries.

not to be racist, but miami's hispanic population is mostly cuban/ carribean, where baseball is a lot more popular than soccer. so just because they have hispanics does not mean theyre going to go

The city poured hundreds of millions into the new baseball stadium and it draws flies. Getting people to go to a MLS match in the middle of a Miami summer? Beckham better expect a ton of empty seats.
You can observe a lot by just watching.

The Miami Heat can't sell out all their games even with LeBron and DWade in the middle of a championship season. A Miami franchise for MLS will have to be a marketing dynamo.
