Dons hot-shot George Williams set for move to Premier League Fulham

ACADEMY youngster George Williams has decided to swap MK Dons for Premier League Fulham, the Citizen understands.

The 16-year-old from Newport Pagnell was offered a professional contract at stadium:mk, but has instead taken up an offer from the west London side. He has been on the Dons books since he was nine.

The two clubs have agreed a compensation package, although Dons are thought to be extremely disappointed by Williams' decision to leave the club.

The striker made three first team appearances for Dons last season, becoming the club's youngest ever goal scorer when he found the back of the net in an FA Cup first round clash with non-league Nantwich. He was also called up to represent Wales U17s.

Everton, Fulham, Man Utd, Newcastle, Spurs & West Ham target shortlisted for London 2012

Jordan Rhodes could play at the London 2012 Olympics

Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes, who has been linked with Aston Villa, Fulham, Newcastle, Tottenham West Ham, Everton, Manchester United and Celtic in recent weeks, has been named on Stuart Pearce's shortlist for Team GB's London 2012 Olympics campaign.

The 22-year-old scored 40 times for the Terriers last season as they won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs and will find out on July 6 whether he will be a part of the 30th Olympiad.

"Jordan is an amazing ambassador for Huddersfield Town and the football profession, with his great performances on the pitch complemented by his contribution to our community and the town off it," Huddersfield chief executive Nigel Clibbens told the club's official website.

"He is a top class individual and thoroughly deserves all the plaudits and success that is coming his way.

"The Football Association has decided not to make an official announcement over the 35-man squad, but has given individual clubs permission to announce their own players.

"Obviously we are tremendously proud of Jordan's achievements and wanted to publicly congratulate him on his inclusion."

Pearce must choose his 18-man squad from players under the age of 23 but three over-age players are allowed.

Rhodes spent a spell in west London at Brentford, where his seven goals in 14 games helped the Bees clinch the League Two title in 2008/09.

USA vs Guatemala: Clint Dempsey Saves USA but Other Scorers Will Need to Step Up

Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images

There is no reason to panic over the USA's 1-1 draw against Guatemala, but there is certainly reason to be concerned.

The lack of offense has been a glaring issue for three games in a row now, and the result is an 0-1-2 mark that is not reflective of how talented this team can be. They have only scored two goals in that span, and there has only been one offensive player that has consistently played well for the United States: Clint Dempsey.

His dribbling skills and vision are unbelievable, and he has an incredibly accurate shot. He has made a huge impact since returning from injury and saved the US offense with his outstanding goal against Guatemala.

But he needs some help.

After five games in 18 days, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has to adjust his offense. In the first half on Tuesday night, the US held possession of the ball for most of the 45 minutes, yet they were unable to create any outstanding looks until Dempsey's goal in the 40th minute.

The central midfield is the obvious weak link, and a change of attack must be in order.

Clint Dempsey Goal USA vs Guatemala 2014 WCQ June 12th 2012

Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones and Maurice Edu are all strong players, but they are not gelling well together. They need better chemistry or a drastic substitution may be in order. Maybe a formation change as well?

The lack of attacking players wide hurts USA. The team relies too heavily on Landon Donovan, and when he has an off night (like Tuesday), the field that the opposing defense must cover is greatly reduced.

Left-back Fabian Johnson has to stop focusing on the middle of the field and start working the sidelines. It will open up more space for his teammates, thus creating more scoring opportunities.

Goalie Tim Howard had two magnificent saves last night and is not a concern. In fact, the entire defense is in top form (aside from the Brazilian debacle). The only issue right now is the lack of aggressiveness on offense, and it's up to the midfielders to figure that out.

The US is in solid shape right now (tied with Jamaica for first in Group A), but they need to make some adjustments to ensure they gain some confidence moving forward.

Johnson close to Hoops move

Queens Park Rangers are now the clear favourites to land former England striker Andy Johnson on a free transfer.

It would be a major coup for R's boss Mark Hughes if he were to land Johnson, as there a considerable number of clubs who are after his services.

Cross London rivals West Ham also said to be linked along with fellow newly promoted side Reading and clubs in the UAE have also shown an interest.

The 31-year-old will be on the move from Fulham and Hughes is keen to add his quality and experience to his squad, as he tries to ensure the club do not find themselves in a relegation fight again at the end of next season.

Johnson is not in a rush though and the R's will have to put a package together which at least matches what others have to offer if they are to land him.

DEMBELE HAPPY TO REMAIN WITH COTTAGERS

Mousa Dembele has no intention of leaving Fulham this summer as he wants to continue playing for manager Martin Jol.

The 24-year-old has become an increasingly important player for the west Londoners since joining the club from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar two years ago.

Dembele, who has a year left to run on his contract, was particularly impressive for the Cottagers last season, leading to speculation that he could leave in the summer.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have all reportedly shown interest in the Belgium international, who insists he has no plans to go anywhere - thanks in no small part to Jol.

"I'm very happy to stay at Fulham, especially because of the boss," he told the Fulham Chronicle.

"I think it's very important to have the backing of the manager and he's a coach who gives me a lot of confidence - that's why I feel I owe it to the gaffer as well.

"I think every player needs that and I'm no different. I go to training every day and work with joy. It's a fantastic club and I'm not in a hurry to move anywhere."

Dembele has been converted from a forward into a central midfielder by Jol this season and it is a role he is enjoying.

"I'm very happy with the change this year in the position I play because I'm a player who likes to have the ball as much as possible - and that is down to the manager as well," he said.

"I think I can hold the ball very well - and it's an advantage to the team if I have a lot of the ball, so I like that position a lot.

"I'm also very happy with the way the season went. The club is doing very well and we have a very strong team with good players.

"Next year, everybody wants to do even better. I'm not sure what will be our target next season, because in a way it's the club and manager who decide.

"I don't know if it is realistic to try for fourth or fifth or sixth, but I think we should look to do even better than this season and last.

"Maybe we will have more energy because we don't play in Europe this season and we can concentrate on the league."

Dembele is not the only Fulham midfielder to have reaffirmed his commitment to the club.

Pajtim Kasami joined from Palermo last summer but featured just 17 times for the Whites and made only two appearances in 2012.

The Switzerland Under-21 international was subject of interest from Juventus in January but stayed at Craven Cottage, where he hopes to make an impression next season.

"At the beginning of the season it was quite difficult being in a new team, in a new country, and playing in a new league," he told the club's official website, www.fulhamfc.com.

"But I felt like I adapted quickly to English football so the first part of the season went very well for me.

"The second half of the season didn't go so well.

"I'm not sad but I'm a little bit disappointed in myself and the only thing I can do is look forward to the next season."

Coup for Fulham as Jol lures teen striker Williams from MK Dons

Fulham have confirmed the signing of teenage striker George Williams from MK Dons.

The 16-year-old, capped by Wales Under 17s, has already broken into the MK Dons first team, becoming the club's youngest ever goalscorer in the FA Cup last season.

Shopping spree: Fulham manager Martin Jol

Williams will join up with the Cottagers' Academy as a first-year scholar for the 2012/13 campaign after an undisclosed compensation package was agreed.

MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman said on the club's official website: 'We are very disappointed that George has chosen not to take up his scholarship or the offer of a professional contract with MK Dons and has instead decided his future is best served with Fulham.

'Everyone at the club wishes him well in the future.'
