How about Vahid Halihodzic (who? I hear you scream).

He was the coach of the ivory coast but got fired after the African Cup of Nations and is now a free agent. He has a history of doing well with middling clubs, taking Lille into the champions league straight from the second division. Also known as a crisis coach. 57 years old and sounds like an excellent replacement for Roy if he left
