Hull City study possible move for former Fulham defender Brede Hangeland

Hull City are understood to be looking at former Fulham defender Brede Hangeland as a possible solution to their shortage of experienced centre-backs.

The Norwegian defender is a free agent after leaving the London club at the end of last season and is considering his options, with several sides declaring an interest.

City are keen to sign another experienced defender and the 33-year-old would fit the bill after moves for Joleon Lescott and Michael Dawson hit the buffers.

Hangeland signed for the Fulham in 2007 and went on to make 267 appearances in all competitions.

Ex-Fulham man to join up with Palace or Tigers?

Crystal palace have been slashed down to 11/10 odds with Sky Bet to capture the signature of ex Fulham defender Brede Hangeland.
The centre-back made an array of appearances for Fulham before being booted out in the summer by new manager Felix Magath. This prompted Hangeland to air his disappointment on Sky Sports at the London clubs decision to kick him out of Craven Cottage where he slammed Magath to the media after a six-year stint with club in which he made 214 appearances.

The big defender who stands up at 6ft 6 and a 1/2 inches would be an ideal addition to the Palace back four. His aerial ability and leadership qualities are all welcome attributes for a defender to posses and with palace lacking that real leader and motivator, Hangeland would be an ideal signing for Palace. The London club are looking to build upon a season of solidarity with a much better start this season after last seasons poor unpredictable start.

Since Tony Pulis took over, the fans of Palace have enjoyed a much more stable campaign, one of defensive ruthlessness and a sense of complacency around the place rather than panic at the back. With goals coming at the others end, the club are really beginning what seems to be a strong side clearly capable of holding their own against the biggest of clubs.

With Hull in for the former Fulham captain who is currently unattached, it could become a race to see who can sign him and offer him the best reasons as to why he should join.

Fulham planning move for Oliver Norwood

According to FLW sources, Fulham are considering a bid for Huddersfield Town midfielder Oliver Norwood.

The 23 year-old joined the Terriers from Manchester United two seasons ago after impressing on loan with Coventry City.

Since then, Norwood has made 78 league appearances for Huddersfield, scoring eight goals.

The midfielder has already been linked with a move to Celtic this summer and it appears that the playmaker is set for a move away from Mark Robins' Huddersfield outfit.

The Northern Ireland international is viewed by Felix Magath as an option to add depth to the Cottagers' midfield in addition to Scott Parker and Chris David.

It has been reported that it would take a fee of  just over £1 million to lure the central midfielder away from the John Smith's Stadium. With Fulham recently selling winger Ashkan Dejagah to Qatar, they could be willing to match Huddersfield's valuation of Norwood.

FULHAM & WEST BROM IMPRESSED BY JASON DAVIDSON BUT WHERE HE IS?

Jason Davidson, the young Heracles defender, was one of the standout performers in Australia's recent World Cup campaign but rather than using this as great exposure, Davidson appears to have gone AWOL.

Davidson is caught up in a contract dispute with Heracles, wherein the player was under the impression his contract had expired and he was free to leave. The club, on the other hand, claim that he had a 1-year extension option, which was their right to trigger, and as such he is contracted to the Almelo based club for the 2014/5 season.  The problem with all of this is that no one knows where Davidson is at the moment!

Davidson, who himself fancies opportunities in Germany or England, is believed to have gone to England after the World Cup to trial with both Fulham and West Bromwich Albion.  Both clubs are said to have been impressed with the left sided defender and were prepared to offer him a contract, until Heracles jumped and claimed he was still their player and a transfer fee would need to be negotiated. Davidson appears to have gone underground to try and resolve this issue and it is believed that he definitely does not want to play for Heracles any more.

His departure would be a blow for Heracles, after his breakout season last campaign, with his pace and technical ability proving a great asset on the left side of their defence.  On the strength of his strong season with Heracles, Davidson was drafted into the Australian World Cup to take the troublesome left sided defender role.  He played in all three of Australia's World Cup matches to follow in the footsteps of his father, Alan, who won 79 caps for the Socceroos.

The 23-year old Davidson was born in Melbourne but travelled the world as a youngster as his Dad's career flourished.  There was no doubt in Jason's mind from an early age that he was going to follow in his father's footsteps.  Whilst other talented youngsters around him were trying their luck with European sides, Davidson went to Japan instead to famed youth academy, Seiritsu Gakuen.  Davidson openly admits that this time was the toughest of his life, being away from his family in a totally different culture and being an outsider but it also taught him resilience and great technical skills that would hold him in good stead.  After turning down offers from back home in Australia, Davidson moved to Portugal with Pacos de Ferreira where he made a handful of appearances.  He also spent some time on load at Sporting Covilha before being picked up by Heracles, where he has played 46 games in the last three campaigns.

A good technical player with the ball at his feet and with excellent physical attributes Davidson was well suited to the Eredivisie but seemingly he has decided that his development would be best served elsewhere.  Whatever the final outcome is in this intriguing tale, one can only hope that Jason makes the most of his skill and current reputation and finds a club that can continue his development as a key component of a youthful Australian side.

Jonathan Greening to feature for Hartlepool United in tonight's friendly with Middlesbrough

JONATHAN Greening is in the Hartlepool United squad for tonight's pre-season friendly with Middlesbrough at Victoria Park.

SportMail revealed earlier this summer that Colin Cooper had identified the former Premier League midfielder as a transfer target after he was released by Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Greening has spent the past two weeks on trial with Championship side Rotherham United but they decided against offering the midfielder a contract and he arrived to join training at Pools on Tuesday morning.

The trialist is likely to be competing with Tommy Miller, another experienced midfielder, for a contract at Pools and both are set to play some part tonight.

Cooper has now confirmed the 35-year-old former Manchester United, West Brom, Fulham and Middlesbrough midfielder will play some part against Boro KO 7.30pm).

"We've had Jonathan in this week who is another experienced player who can handle a football and has played at the top level for the majority of his career," Cooper told the club's website.

"To have him in training is a big bonus for us and I am looking forward to seeing him play and I know that he's looking forward to being involved against Middlesbrough too which is great so we'll see what happens off the back of that."

Scarborough-born Greening has a wealth of experience and after starting his career with York City, soon moved up the leagues, joining Manchester United for three seasons, where he won the Champions League in 1999.

The former England Under 21 international then joined Steve McClaren at Boro in 2001 before also playing in the Premier League for West Brom and Fulham, before Greening joined Forest where he has been for the past three seasons.

Cooper has been tracking the experienced Scarborough-born midfielder for more than a year now.
