Bruce for Fulham Update

Not that long ago, the name of Steve Bruce and Fulham Football Club were mentioned in the same sentence.

The consensus being that Bruce, with a history of leading clubs out of the Championship and back into the Premier League, would be the ideal candidate to do something similar with Fulham.

Quite where that left Kit Symons, who has only been in the managerial role for a short time, wasn`t exactly explained.

However, the prospect of Bruce taking over at Craven Cottage in time for next season appears to be diminishing.

Reports in the Sunday press infer that Bruce has been offered a new three year deal and looks set to sign.

But, before we give up all hope, Hull City is a club up for sale and Bruce`s final decision might rest on who the new owners are.

We`ll, as always, keep you informed.

Matt Smith reflects on making his home debut for Fulham

Former Leeds United star Matt Smith scored on his home debut for Fulham against Bournemouth in the Championship on Friday.

Fulham forward Matt Smith has spoken to the club's official website of his disappointment at losing on his home debut.

The 25-year-old featured at a game at Craven Cottage for the first time since his move to Fulham from Leeds United in the summer of 2014.

Fulham paid as much as £500,000 for the services of Smith, according to BBC Sport, but the Englishman had not made his debut at home until Friday.

That's largely because Smith was sent out on loan to League One outfit Bristol City for two months in November after struggling at Fulham.

Smith did not start Friday's Championship clash against Bournemouth at Craven Cottage on Friday, but he came on for Hugo Rodallega at half time.

Fulham were 2-0 down at that stage and Smith was expected to add some spark, but the former Oldham Athletic striker failed to prevent his side from going 5-1 down.

Smith did score Fulham's only goal midway through the first half, but the final result left him hugely disappointed.

Goals   Goal Assist   Total Att Assist   Total Scoring Att   Ontarget Scoring Att   Appearances   Mins Played
Matt Smith   1   0   4   7   2   8   183

"It wasn't the way I wanted my Craven Cottage debut to go, with a defeat like that," the 25-year-old told Fulham's official website.

"Collectively we know that that was simply way off it. It was not good enough. We need to readdress the situation and work even harder on the training ground to put things right.

"It was my first game at Craven Cottage and my minutes have been limited for Fulham since I arrived so it was a good opportunity to get out there and try to make an impact and I thought the signs were looking good at first, but, collectively, you can't defend in the manner we did."

Fulham are currently 21st in the Championship table with 39 points from 36 matches, eight points above the relegation zone.
