Fulham and QPR chasing Swansea's Jazz Richards

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Swansea defender Jazz Richards is a target for Queens Park Rangers and Fulham this summer.

Richards is entering the final year of his contract at Swansea and has yet to agree a new deal at the Liberty Stadium.

The 24-year-old is thought to be considering his future at Swansea as he wants to be playing regular first-team football.

Richards played in Swansea's final three games of the season, but is behind Kyle Naughton and Angel Rangel in Garry Monk's first-team plans.

Wales international Richards enjoyed a spell on loan at Fulham earlier this season, making 14 appearances at Craven Cottage.

Kit Symons is a fan of Richards and would like to bring the versatile performer back to Fulham on a permanent basis.

However, they could face competition from London rivals QPR with Chris Ramsey planning to reshape his squad with a number of stars expected to leave in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League.

Duo chasing Jazz deal

Fulham and Queens Park Rangers are believed to be the two clubs chasing Swansea City defender Jazz Richards this summer. Championship: Duo chasing Jazz deal With the 24-year-old struggling for regular game time at the Liberty Stadium and entering the final year of his contract, Richards could well be tempted by a move to pastures new. A switch could involve a drop down to the Championship though, with the Cottagers and the R's thought to be the front runners to land the Welsh international. Having had a loan spell at Craven Cottage earlier in the season, Fulham boss Kit Symons will be hoping Richards decides to make a return to the club on a permanent basis in the coming weeks. - See more at: https://www.clubcall.com/championship/duo-chasing-jazz-deal-1770654.html#sthash.EjFxl9EZ.dpuf

Fulham expect wantaway Bryan Ruiz to honour his contract

Whites boss Kit Symons believes Costa Rican international will act professionally

Looking for a way out: Bryan Ruiz

Fulham manager Kit Symons has defended the club's decision to tie down wantaway midfielder Bryan Ruiz to a new deal and expects the player to act professionally.

The Costa Rican featured 32 times for the Cottagers last season and was expected to be released when his contract expires in the summer.

However, the Whites took up the option of extending his deal for another year meaning that clubs would need to buy the player rather than allowing him to walk away for free.

A loan move to La Liga outfit Levante was scuppered by red tape in February, and Ruiz has been monitored by a number of Dutch outfit such as PSV Eindhoven.

Palermo and Valencia also looked the possibility of taking the World Cup star last season.

Symons is playing hardball though and is not prepared to take a £10.6million hit on the man who arrived in west London in August 2011 and expects Ruiz to honour his contract.

Playing hardball: Fulham manager Kit Symons

"The business and the football side need to come together," he told the club's website.

"Bryan was an expensive acquisition for us and on a business model we didn't just want him to walk away for nothing.

"Bryan didn't want to be here last season and he doesn't want to be here now, he's made that clear, but he's a very good player for this football club and we can't afford to let people just walk away.

"He's a professional, he'll come back here and acquit himself well and be another good player for my squad."

Meanwhile, Fulham's chief football officer Mike Rigg is still certain Symons is the man to move the club forward in the long-term and insists new additions to the squad will be identified carefully.

"The club have been through a tough time in the last two or three years and in order to get some stability back in the club I don't think more change was what we needed right now," he said.

"Behind the scenes, what a lot of the fans won't see is there's been a real feel-good factor. To make a knee-jerk reaction would've been the wrong move.

"We're not going to risk the long-term future of the club with any kind of knee-jerk reaction by overpaying hyper-inflated prices of greedy players or agents.

"We want to bring players into the club that have got the ambition and the quality to take us back to the Premier League.

"We've not talked about finances or a war chest. We've talked about strategy. We've got a unified strategy of what we want to do.

"It's not just about how much we spend, it's about making sure we have a real calculated behind how we build this squad."

Back the manager

This is good on the off field stuff but at no point did the club sell us on Kit Symons. Symons didn't sell himself really, other than some fluff about being stronger for going through the adversity.

I remember hearing Rio Ferdinand being interviewed during a World Cup. His point was that despite all indicators to the contrary, England would thrive with their "backs to the wall" and come through when it matters. Of course nothing of the sort happened.

I don't know what I expect them to say but other than "Kit got a tough assignment and so we owe him another opportunity" what am I to believe in here?

Norwich City brought in a new manager last season. Alex Neil had no celebrity in the English game but what he did have was a track record, albeit a brief one, of winning football matches. Norwich, under Neil, were phenomenal. They were promoted.

I'm not saying anything new here, I appreciate, and I do understand Rigg's comment about the need for stability, but I think they might have done more here in reassuring us on Symons. Fine, maybe there's a good atmosphere about the place, lovely, terrific, but where do we get reassurance that Kit will stop the team from conceding 100 goals next season? We have to infer that this will happen because Rigg and the clever committee will go about things the right way in identifying talent (and I get this, and believe them, to a degree). But still your manager has to impose something on the team.

We have to keep an open mind and I'm sure a mid table finish is likely here, but with all the excellent questioning from Sarah Brookes, we might have seen a bit more in our respondents' replies. Back the manager properly, tell us about things he's done in the past that suggest he can manage a football team. Because otherwise it's still a leap of faith, which feels dangerous, especially when there are probably managers out there who can offer a greater degree of reassurance through their own CVs.

Unless the club doesn't think the manager matters that much...

Ark Globe Academy pupils quiz Fulham FC manager Kit Symons

Pupils from Ark Globe Academy's football teams last week had the opportunity to quiz Kit Symons, first team manager of Fulham FC, about his role and what it takes to be a professional football manager.

The pupils, aged 10 to 12, also got the chance to show off their skills in a training session with the Championship manager on their school pitch.

In a special assembly Kit spoke to the pupils about how having the right attitude and mentality is as equally important as the talent needed to be successful in life. "You learn more through your failures than through your successes" he said.

Questions from the students covered what it takes to make it as a professional player – "A good attitude and motivation" – the best player he has managed – "Gareth Bale. He puts the team first" – and his aims for the future – "To be as good as he can be."

Kit also spoke about Fulham FC's goalkeeper, locally-born Marcus Bettinelli, and how his attitude is a key part of what makes him such a good player.

Ahead of Ark Globe Academy's cup final match Idris, the year 7 football captain, asked: "What advice would you give for the team as they prepare for the final?" Kit Symons responded: "Listen to your coach, go out with a game plan and stick to it and work together."

Idris – who also plays for the Fulham Academy U12 team as centre back – said: "I learnt from Kit today that even though you make mistakes you should carry on. It felt good to play in front of him because in the future he might be my manager."

The visit follows the launch of Ark Globe Academy and Fulham FC's elite development centre last autumn.

The centre at the school holds training sessions for male players from primary age to young teenagers from across Southwark and aims to nurture and develop players with potential to be future Fulham FC first team regulars.

The partnership also includes regular specialist coaching for Ark Globe Academy students and educational visits to the football club.

Moving Forward: Mike Rigg, Kit Symons, and Alistair Mackintosh discuss their roles going forward

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuFbfGFy7eQ

What does the future hold? What exactly are the roles of these three men? They discuss that and more here.

The Structure of the Club

Fulham finally have a setup I'm happy with. A Chief Football Officer in Mike Rigg, a CEO in Alistair Mackintosh, and a Manager in Kit Symons. They might not be the best people for each job, but at least for once their is a stable structure. The old days of having an all powerful manager are gone. The modern game is too complicated for one person to be in charge. Mackintosh can work on financial issues, Rigg can deal with player acquisition, and Symons can handle on the field issues. If you have to replace one of them, you aren't blowing up the entire structure to do so. We've seen too much of that lately at Fulham, and it's not something I want to see again.
Next Season's Goals and Plans

The goal for next season is top six. That's a realistic goal to have in my opinion. They haven't yet decided on how much money there will be to spend, but they do have assurances from Mr. Kahn that they will be financially supported. They are coming up with strategies to identify the players that they want. They also explained the Bryan Ruiz situation and that picking up the option was simply to keep from losing him for nothing.
The Riverside Stand

Fulham now have the license to work on the pier and they have bought a chunk of the Thames River. They are moving forward with the plan hopefully starting next year. They feel the project is a long term project that will be completed no matter what division they are in. They also have plans to possibly improve the Hammersmith stand. In the short term, they are going to be spending money on upkeep and custodial issues in the stadium.

This was a video put out by the club, so it was never going to paint the club in a bad light. However, I am encouraged by what I heard. The season is barely over, but I'm already looking forward to the next one.

Fulham and Derby County lead chase to sign Premier League defender

Championship trio Derby County, QPR and Fulham are lining up a swoop for Swansea City's versatile defender Jazz Richards, according to Shoot.co.uk

Richards has just a single year left on his existing contract at the Liberty Stadium, and is set to depart the Welsh club in an attempt to play regular first-team football.

Fulham would seem the most likely to persuade the Wales international to leave the Swans given that he spent the second half of last season on loan at Craven Cottage, making 14 appearances in the process.

Kit Symons is said to have been impressed with the player's performances and attitude and would be keen to secure a permanent deal for the player.

It now looks as though the Cottagers could face competition for the player's signature however with Derby County and newly-relegated Queens Park Rangers also carefully monitoring the situation, with both club's looking for a tilt at promotion next season.

Why this Queens Park Rangers defender should be a target for Fulham

Newly contracted boss Chris Ramsey is set for a major squad reshuffle and Armand Traore has been told he can now find a new club, with the Championship looking like a viable option.

The former Arsenal youth prospect is still contracted to QPR for another season but could be let go on a free to save on wage costs.

Since joining from Arsenal in 2011, Traore has been a regular feature in the QPR side that has been both promoted and relegated twice and now it seems that Traore will call time on his Loftus Road career.

25-year-old Traore has made 17 appearances for the already relegated side. Predominantly a left back of winger and has the talent to push forward and challenge the opposition fullbacks.

Fulham could be the perfect spot for Traore, with his astronomical wage demands and the fact that Stafilidis is set to depart the club on loan.

Other clubs that could take a gamble on Traore are newly promoted Bournemouth and Watford, who will be looking for players with Premiership experience and will be able to afford his demands.
