Emmo Marches On

Emerson Hyndman led the United States into the Quarter-Finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup on Wednesday after they defeated Colombia 1-0 in Wellington.

The Americans suffered an early setback when Bradford Jamieson had to be stretchered from the field after a long delay, with the forward taken to hospital for further tests having suffered an apparent neck injury.

After play recommenced, both sides struggled to fashion any clear-cut openings and they went in at half-time with the game scoreless, although Colombia went closest when Desevio Payne made a crucial block to deny Santos Borre.

The South Americans came out of the blocks strongly after the restart and the States relied on goalkeeper Zack Steffan to deny Borre after he burst in on goal practically from kick-off.

But it was the USA who took the lead just before the hour mark. Hyndman sent a header towards Paul Arriola whose shot rebounded to Rubio Rubin, and the striker slammed the ball into the net.

Colombia had a wonderful opportunity to draw level on 83 minutes after they were awarded a penalty when Kellyn Acosta brought down Rodin Quinones. Acosta was shown a second yellow card for the foul but his teammate Steffan bailed him out with a superb save down to his right to keep our Borre's spot-kick.

Deinner Quinones went close shortly after when he sent in a goal-bound header, but Arriola was on the line to avert the danger as the States held on to set up a Quarter-Final meeting with Serbia on Sunday.

Fulham transfer news: Swansea accept bid for Jazz Richards

Swansea have struck a deal with Fulham for defender Jazz Richards, according to reports.

The Welsh full-back made 14 appearances for the Cottagers on loan last season.

And boss Kit Symons has moved to bring the 24-year-old back to west London on a permanent basis.

Swans have accepted an offer for Richards, who needs to pass a medical and thrash out personal terms.

Fulham agree to permanent deal for Swansea City's Ashley 'Jazz' Richards

According to reports Fulham have secured a permanent deal for the twenty four year old right back.

I wasn't sure if right back was the  most pressing defensive need going into this window. The team apparently did not agree as they have moved to bring Jazz Richards in on a permanent deal. Richards made seven appearances for Fulham last season. While the sample is small, the team did only give up nine goals in those games. It could be that he's a good defender, or it could just be noise.

The Welsh international is currently training with his national team. A team where Kit Symons is also an assistant. So, if there's anyone who knows about Richards game, it would probably be Symons.

Hopefully this is just the first move of many to come. Fulham really need to build this squad if they have any chance of competing for a playoff spot next year. Being able to bring in a twenty four year old right back for only £500K is definitely a great start.

Defender heading to Fulham

Swansea defender Jazz Richards is poised to join Fulham after the clubs agreed a £500,000 fee. The 24-year-old impressed while on loan at Craven Cottage last season and the Championship side have moved quickly to secure his services on a permanent deal. Richards would struggle to force his way into Garry Monk's squad next season so the Swans boss will be happy to take the cash and reinvest it elsewhere. The Welshman is currently on international duty but the deal is expected to be rubber-stamped soon.

Fulham close to Richards deal

Fulham are close to a deal to sign the Swansea defender Jazz Richards, who spent a portion of last season on loan at Craven Cottage, according to Sky sources.

The Whites are keen to land the right-back on a permanent transfer after he impressed during 14 Championship starts at the back end of last season.

Richards, who made his Swansea debut in 2009, has a year left on his current contract at the Liberty Stadium and wishes to leave to play regular first-team games.

It is understood other clubs are interested by Fulham are in a commanding position and negotiations continue.

Richards has played in the Premier League for the Swans and has made 42 appearances for the club altogether, whilst also previously spending time on loan at Crystal Palace and Huddersfield.

Sky sources also understand the Whites are keen to land free agent Ben Pringle, who left Rotherham at the end of the campaign, on a free transfer.

Pringle, 25, has been an instrumental part of Rotherham's success in recent years and scored three times in 43 appearances in their inaugural Championship season.

Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers and Fulham's Emerson Hyndman celebrate on Twitter after USA's Under-20 World Cup win

The likes of Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers and Fulham's Emerson Hyndman had every reason to celebrate on Wednesday after their US Under-20 side secured a 1-0 win over Colombia to seal a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The USA qualified for the last 16 as Group A runners-up following 2-1 and 4-0 wins over Myanmar and tournament hosts New Zealand, respectively, but a 3-0 defeat in their third and final match against group winners Ukraine created some concern heading into the Colombia clash.

Tab Ramos' men suffered a setback within the first three minutes of the match when striker Bradford Jamieson IV was stretchered off after taking a blow the head, as their opponents proceeded to dominate the first-half.

The US held firm and rallied after the break, however, when AZ Alkmaar hotshot Rubio Rubin, who made his full international debut against Colombia in November, pounced on a loose ball in the 58th-minute to rifle home for his second goal of the tournament.

Colombia were kept in check for the next 23 minutes but there was drama in the 81st-minute when versatile left-back Kellyn Acosta was shown his marching orders after picking up his second booking for a foul inside the box, handing the South Americans the chance to equalise.

Goalkeeper Zach Steffen was equal to Jarlan Barrera's effort, though, diving right to both preserve the USA's lead and ensure a quarter-final meeting with Serbia in Auckland on 14 June.

While Steffen's spot-kick heroics earned him most of the plaudits, there were also strong performances from skipper Hyndman, goalscorer Rubin and centre-back Carter-Vickers, who were all among the US players to express their delight at the result on Twitter after the match.

Fulham have deal accepted for versatile Premier League defender

According to reports surfacing this morning, Swansea City have accepted a deal from Fulham for the services of defender Jazz Richards after the Welsh international impressed on-loan for the Cottagers.

The 24 year-old joined Fulham on-loan in January last season and went on to make 14 appearances for Kit Symons side after playing just ten games in the first half of the season for Swansea.

Naturally a right back, Richards can also competently fill in at left back or further forward in the midfield, and has been situated in Wales with the Swans since 2007.

Since making his senior debut in 2009 Richards has struggled to break through and hold down a first-team place, making just 39 league appearances during six seasons at the Liberty Stadium.

Woodrow's New Deal

Fulham Football Club is delighted to confirm that Cauley Woodrow has signed a contract extension until June 2018, with a Club option for a further year.

The striker joined the Whites from Luton Town four years ago, and made his debut for the Club in March 2014, before scoring his first Fulham goal on the final day of the season against Crystal Palace.

Last term he was a regular in the matchday squad, making 34 appearances, during which time he scored five goals. At the end of the campaign, he was named in Gareth Southgate's preliminary England squad for the Under-21 European Championships.

Rangers favourite Mark Warburton discusses Fulham links

Rangers manager favourite Mark Warburton was linked with a role at Fulham today, before quickly setting the record straight on the links.

The Record reported earlier on Wednesday that Warburton was talking to other clubs about possible managerial roles, name checking Fulham as a side the 52-year-old had spoken too.

The former Brentford boss was quick to refute the claims of discussions at Craven Cottage though, emphasising that the current Fulham boss Kit Symons has impressed in an interview with Get West London.

"I find these reports disrespectful," Warburton said regarding the rumours. "There's no truth in them whatsoever.

"Kit Symons has done a fantastic job at Fulham and I'm disappointed to see these allegations. I have not spoken to Fulham at all."

After he and Gers favourite David Weir helped the Bees to the Championship playoffs, having been in League One just 12 months earlier, there have been plenty of clubs credited with an interest in recruiting him as manager.

Rangers remain the favourites for Warburton though, having missed out on promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, and the manager's comments denying any interest in taking over at Fulham will have surely encouraged their pursuit of him.

Fulham set to seal deal for Rotherham United midfielder

As featured on NewsNow: Football NewsFootball News 24/7
Rotherham United midfielder Ben Pringle is set to sign a two-year deal with Championship rivals Fulham, according to FLW sources.

Pringle had announced last month that he was to leave the Millers when his contract expired in the summer, despite being offered a new deal to stay at the New York Stadium.

The news of him leaving South Yorkshire alerted a number of Championship clubs including Leeds United, Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers.

Ipswich Town have since joined the race and FLW understands it was between the Tractor Boys and Fulham for the 26-year-old's signature, but he has now favoured to join the West London club.

The South London Press reported last Friday that Charlton had withdrawn from the race because they could not compete with the wages the Cottagers were offering to the midfielder.

He also turned down a move to Millwall in January after the Millers had accepted a bid of £100,000.

Pringle spent four years with Rotherham, scoring 19 goals in 146 appearances, and was part of the squad that won the League One play-offs in 2014.

Fulham set to launch bid for Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy

HITC Sport understands that Fulham are ready to compete with Cardiff City and Hull City for Ipswich Town's top Championship marksman Daryl Murphy.

Fulham are set to launch a bid for Daryl Murphy as they hope to win the race for the Ipswich Town star, HITC understands from sources close to the club.

The Irish international striker finished last season as top-scorer in the Championship, as he played a starring role in Town's promotion push – which ended in the play-offs.

The 32-year-old has one-year left on his current deal at Portman Road, but Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy knows he faces a huge task to hang on to one of his prized assets.

Murphy has been linked with recently relegated Hull City and second tier promotion hopefuls Cardiff City – but Fulham, who still have parachute money coming their way this summer – are ready to put cash on the table.

Murphy, who scored 27 goals last term, is currently with the Republic of Ireland squad and earlier this week admitted to being flattered by the interest being shown in him.
