Fulham eye up deal for Groningen's Brazilian defender Eric Fernando Botteghin

The 27-year-old is a 6ft 4ins tall Brazilian centre back who plays for Groningen in Holland.

Fulham have been looking for a commanding defender who is good on the ball and hope Botteghin, who has an Italian passport, can fulfil that role.

He scored three goals in 36 appearances last season.

Botteghin joined Groningen from NAC Breda in 2013 and has made 68 appearances in the last two seasons.

The defender has impressed in the Eredivisie this season with some fine performances as Groningen finished eighth.

Dembélé On Target

Moussa Dembélé came off the bench to score a marvellous goal as France confirmed their place in the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Under-19 Championship with a 3-1 win over Ukraine on Thursday.

Les Bleus were already a goal up by the time Dembélé came on for Kingsley Coman on 40 minutes, courtesy of Sehrou Guirassy's cool finish shortly after the half hour mark.

They had chances to double the lead before half-time, with the Fulham striker seeing a shot saved by goalkeeper Vadym Soldatenko, but it was Ukraine who scored next to restore parity 10 minutes after the interval when Olexandr Zubkov cut inside and found the net with an unstoppable effort.

The sides were level for just seven minutes, though, as Dembélé restored France's lead in style. The 18-year-old picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and strode purposefully forward, comfortably evading two Ukraine challenges. He then darted between two more defenders inside the penalty area before rifling in a powerful left-footed strike from the corner of the six-yard box that left Soldatenko with little chance.

Ukraine probed for a way back into the match but the result was sewn up two minutes into stoppage time when defender Pavlo Lukyanchuk – under pressure from Dembélé – deflected a cross into his own net.

With the other group still wide open, France could face any one of Spain, Russia, Germany or the Netherlands in the Semi-Final on Thursday, although they still have hosts Greece to play on Sunday. A point in that match will confirm top spot for the French in Group A.

Besitkas in discussions with Fulham over sale of Amorebieta

It appears that Besitkas scouts have set up base in South West London of late. Last week they were linked heavily with a move for Kostas Mitroglou and yesterday the Times linked them with a move for Chelsea striker Loic Remy. Now today reports from Turkey are advising that they're negotiating with Fulham over the sale of Venezuelan defender, Fernanado Amorebieta.

The report states that Besktkas president, Rebecca Wood has been in discussions with Fulham over a fee and was quoted a sum of EU 5 million for the defender. That does seem very high for a 30 year old Championship defender and not surprisingly, they've asked for a discount. I'm sure Fulham would be willing to negotiate, especially to remove his salary from the books and it looks like negotiations are ongoing,

The 30 year old defender only played 30 times in his 2 years at Fulham and a move to Turkey could suit all parties.

That`s the Way Fulham Do It!

As clubs go their merry-way in the close-season, Fulham supporters will be closely watching the changes that are happening at Craven Cottage as the club seeks to make a far better impact in the Championship this coming season.

Fulham have already been active in the transfer market this summer, already bringing in:-

• Jazz Richards

• Ben Pringle

• Jamie O`Hara

• Tom Cairney

and

• Andy Lonergan

But you get the impression there are more to come with the media suggesting Symons is interested in the Wolves midfielder Kevin McDonald.

But, if you`ve ever wondered how discussions are carried out with regards to comings and goings it appears they are done by a telephone conference call with a local media source recalling a call that took place, in Portugal, where Fulham are taking on Aston Villa this Saturday.

Apparently the call involved:-

• Kit Symons (manager)

• Shahid Khan (owner and chairman)

• Alistair Mackintosh (chief executive)

• Mike Rigg (chief football officer)

and

• Mark Lamping (director)

With Symons remarking about the conference call,

"We had a rundown on potential signings and anyone going out.

"It`s constant and regular communication. Everyone pulls together and sings off the same hymn sheet. Given the way things have been done, we`ve given ourselves every chance of being successful.'

Let`s all hope that is the case, we do not want a repeat of the angst of last season where relegation looked a distinct possibility ta one stage.

Revealed: Fulham owner Shahid Khan wants to buy Tottenham and relocate Jacksonville Jaguars to White Hart Lane

Fulham owner Shahid Khan is considering selling the club and buying Tottenham in a deal that could also see his NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, move into the new White Hart Lane.

Standard Sport understands Khan's plan is at an extremely formative stage, with only informal discussions having taken place with advisers over the possibility of a dramatic deal that would change the football landscape in London.

No contact has been made between Khan and Spurs, while a new stadium has been part of chairman Daniel Levy's grand plan for the north London club since he took over in 2001 and he has no desire to sell.

Spurs unveiled their blueprint on Wednesday for a 61,000-capacity stadium that will host two NFL matches per season over a 10-year period from the planned opening date in 2018.

Tottenham's new link with the NFL will appeal to Khan, whose Jaguars team have a four-year residency at Wembley, which expires in 2016.

Crunch time: The NFL are keen to launch a London franchise with the Jaguars leading the pack

In November, Khan insisted that "we have no plans to move at this time" but also admitted that "going overseas has been a win-win... [extending the annual visits] is something we are going to look at in a couple of years... it is in the realm of possibility but nothing's decided".

It is believed that Khan has been encouraged by the upturn in financial results the Jaguars have enjoyed since coming to London.

Scouting Report: O'Hara

Following the signing of Jamie O'Hara this week, we caught up with William Watt – Blackpool FC Writer for the Blackpool Gazette – to get his opinions on the 28-year-old.

Is it fair to say Jamie O'Hara was one of few positives in Blackpool's 2014/15 campaign?

There weren't many bright sparks at all at Bloomfield Road last season, but O'Hara was certainly one of them. In fact, I'd go as far as saying he was Pool's best player.

He impressed you then?

Yes, his quality stood out from his very first game. He signed just before Blackpool's trip to Fulham ironically, but made his debut off the bench at Leeds a few days later. Jamie admitted himself his match sharpness was way off, but his quality on the ball really caught the eye. As he got fitter his performances improved.

With so much disruption going on at the club, does that make his positive performances more impressive do you think?

It was almost the impossible club for players last season, just about everything went against them. Strangely, Blackpool was probably the perfect club for Jamie to get his career back on track as he was able to play football and kind of blend into the madness. I think despite all the problems he'll probably look back on his time at Blackpool fondly.

What sort of player is he?

The first thing to say about him is he has a superb left foot. I might be sounding like his agent a little bit here, but he has clear quality on the ball and can make things tick. He'll probably admit himself his fitness is something he's still working on after a couple of years without playing regularly, but his quality more than makes up for that.

What are his main strengths?

His passing and set-pieces and probably his strong point.

Was he popular with Blackpool's fans?

No-one was really hugely popular with Pool's fans last year with all the off-the-field stuff going on, but they took to Jamie. I think in a season of quite dreadful football they saw him as their beacon of hope. Fans were very disappointed when it became clear he wouldn't be staying.

How did you find him to deal with?

I'd met him before so that helped, but he was always a pleasure to deal with. I think people have a preconception about him as they may have seen him pictured in magazines or tabloids, but it's an unfair representation. Underneath all the fame he's clearly just a lad who loves to play football, and he was desperate to be seen as a footballer again.

How do you think he'll fare at Fulham?

I'd back him to do well. He's a player who's played comfortably in the Premier League and now has good experience of the Championship. Fulham is a good club for him as it sees him move back down south close to his family, which will also help. I wouldn't bet against him being a success.
