away shirts from the 60's

I do remember the 60's away shirt as being exactly  that shade of blue, and it does look a lot like Haynes, though I'm not quite sure - but if it was definitely Fulham of that time, I wondered who else it could be.

Someone needs to get a real magnified close up of the badge, though it is blurred, to check if it's Fulham, if there is doubt. Presumably, someone can verify it - why choose a random photo because it looks a lot like Johnny Haynes and Fulham's away kit of the time?

Thanks for the programme links Arthur - brought back many memories.

Holders, do you have a photo (long shot I know) of that blue and light blue kit, I'd love to add it to my collection

Sorry, JC, I don't. I only saw it in use once (at Brighton, I believe). Maybe the club has one (Ken Coton). Also, the kits from 1970 until the "staggered" FFC badge came in didn't bear the old, large, Haynes-era badge. Maybe that's what TOFFS offers but they had a version of the cross, shield and ship one. I no longer have my programmes from that era so can't check.

There are a set of pictures from the Brighton game here, but you'll need good eyesight for these:

http://www.fulhamfootballprogrammes.co.uk/eras/1971-1980/1970-1971/matches/Rotherham/programme.html

Better photographs of the kit, however, are shown here from a game at Tranmere:

http://www.fulhamfootballprogrammes.co.uk/eras/1971-1980/1970-1971/matches/Reading/programme.html

Being the era that it was, of course, none of the pictures are in colour.

Thank you for posting those links to such happy days.

...to quote Arthur - "This is also how the programme for that day describes our kit.

Could TOFFS have come across this picture and merely guessed that it shows us?"

White JC's photo cannot be for that particular game as Johnny Haynes was out injured due to a car crash. All very intriguing...

well I think Toff's have got this one wrong, I think its Ipswich Town...

I can't find too many photos of their kit however here's what I've found so far

Yes, mate that's the shirt but that badge had gone out of use by then.

the FFC monogram replace the 'old' black and white crest in 1972 and the 'simplified' crest replaced the monogram in 1981 so it must have been this badge?

No mate, that was after we'd dropped this shirt. I'm pretty sure there was another badge came in between. The old memory isn't what it was though, would have to check programmes to be sure.

Definitely us against Spurs at White Hart Lane - the full photo has Blanchflower to Haynes' right walking off at the end. I think the shirt Spurs wore for the reverse fixture was almost identical to that, except of course for their own badge as opposed to our old "crest" on that one pictured
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly...timey-wimey...stuff."

I kindly disagree.

The FFC monogram replaced the old badge, I believe, for the 1973-74 season. The kit above was only worn during the 1970-71 season. It bore our traditional badge of the time.

Without wanting to sound picky, if you want to be 100% accurate with your depiction, White JC, the shirt should have long sleeves, the collar and cuffs should be dark blue, and there should be nine (rather than seven) stripes across the front - with a dark centre-stripe - and two dark- and two light-stripes visible on the sleeves.

WhiteJC

Hi Arthur, is this more like it?

That's a fabulous effort, WhiteJC.

The only point I would make concerns the badge. You might like to take a close look at the centre-top picture on page 5 of this programme:

http://www.fulhamfootballprogrammes.co.uk/eras/1971-1980/1970-1971/matches/Rotherham/programme.html

It's not entirely clear but, from this picture, it appears to me that the club badge (which would have been sewn onto the shirt) is on a square white background that partially spans three stripes of the shirt. Would you agree?

Edit: On the other hand, the badge itself may just have been larger. The pictures in this programme from a match at Preston at the beginning of the following season (we had gone back to a red shirt) make it look as if this is the case.

I think the badge is on a white background is because the badge was embroidered separately, on white cloth, and then sewn onto the shirt - at least that's how I remember getting shirts back in the 60's and early 70's

LBNo11

...here is a photo of an original 1960's badge I have amongst my memorabilia - not sure if it will help the debate much, but at least it's accurate for making a comparison...

This would seem to be spot on.

Sorry for having been so pedantic, but if I were trying to re-create old shirts using modern graphics, I would want my efforts to conclude with an exact replica as you have done here.
