Nominate your Capital One Supporter of the Year

The Football League and credit card company Capital One have teamed up to launch a nationwide search to find supporters that have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to their club.

BBC 5 Live's 606 show will be supporting the award this year, helping to increase the visibility of this category to supporters across the country. The three divisional winners will be interviewed live on the show the Saturday night before the Awards.

To nominate a Fulham fan that you know for the award, visit http://po.st/SOTY.

The winner will be announced at the annual Football League Awards 2016 on Sunday 17th April at Manchester Central, where they will receive the Capital One Supporter of the Year trophy.

Supporters are asked to nominate fellow fans that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support their club by submitting suggestions online via http://po.st/SOTY. Entries will only be submitted once you press the 'SUBMIT' button at the bottom of the entry form.

Entries must include the nominee's name, supported club, and details of what makes them a great fan of their club, including why you think they should win the award.

Nominations are invited for fans of any current Football League club. A winner for each division will be decided, with the overall Capital One Supporter of the Year announced at the star-studded evening in April, which recognises and celebrates excellence both on and off the field.

Brighton & Hove Albion fan Sarah Watts was named the Capital One Supporter of the Year at The Football League Awards 2015.

She was well known for her relentless campaigning against homophobia with the Brighton & Hove Supporters' Club and the Gay Football Supporters' Network. She also played a vital role in ensuring the Club's new stadium was built due to her work on the 'Falmer For All' campaign.

Sarah beat competition for the overall award from two other divisional winners – Crawley Town's Tracey Cole (League One) and Exeter City's Greg Hill (League Two).

If you think you know someone who deserves to be recognised and lift the trophy this year then nominate them now by visiting http://po.st/SOTY.

Nominations close at 12pm on Wednesday 9th March.

George Cohen Tribute

Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce that it has commissioned esteemed sculptor Douglas Jennings to create a statue of George Cohen MBE. It will be displayed at Craven Cottage and unveiled in October 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of England's famous World Cup victory in 1966, in which George played and raised the iconic Jules Rimet trophy.

For many years, George has been a fantastic ambassador for Fulham's work in the community. As part of the fundraising process, two initiatives in his name will be launched with the aim of improving men's health through local dementia care and health preventative programmes.

The statue and the dementia and men's health programmes managed by the Club's Foundation will require significant funding. Fulham's Chairman, Shahid Khan, has pledged to match every single pound raised to ensure that not only the statue is erected, but that the Foundation can deliver initiatives supporting George's chosen cause.

Fans worldwide will also be given the opportunity to contribute in a multitude of different ways, including a personal engraving on a brass plaque that will adorn the stone plinth on which the statue will stand, along with money-can't-buy experiences involving the Fulham team.

As Fulham and England's right-back, George played 459 times for the Whites and 37 times for his country. His entire career was played in the black and white of Fulham and he remains a host of his own George Cohen Lounge on matchdays at the Cottage, where he delights visitors with anecdotes and tales of his former playing days along with insightful analysis of the Club's most recent performances.

"George Cohen and Craven Cottage are each at the heart of the history and tradition of Fulham Football Club," FFC Chairman Shahid Khan said. "Mr Cohen continues to inspire us at Fulham, as well as everyone who loves the game of football in England.

"It's only appropriate that Mr Cohen be celebrated and honoured here at Craven Cottage by the Club as well as our fans who can take part in the effort to recognise a legendary member of the Fulham family and make a difference in the good causes that Mr Cohen supports."

Bob Howes, chairman of the supporter-led group that proposed the statue to Fulham earlier this year said: "We're delighted that this honour is being paid to George Cohen MBE, a true gentleman who has given so much to the supporters of Fulham, England and the world of football. Our committee are fully committed and would like to invite all supporters to join us in funding this exciting project."

The only World Cup title ever won by England took place on 30th July 1966 at Wembley Stadium and had an attendance of 96,924. The British television audience reached 32.30m viewers, making the Final the most watched television event ever in the United Kingdom. For his contribution to that success, George was awarded the MBE in 2000.

Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow looking to jog manager's memory as he nears return to action

Jokanovic's first impression of youngster back in December was a good one

At the double: Cauley Woodrow celebrates his brace against Rotherham

Fulham frontman Cauley Woodrow hopes manager Slavisa Jokanovic has a good memory as the striker nears a return from injury.

Just two days after agreeing to become Fulham manager, Jokanovic watched on from the stands as Fulham beat Rotherham 4-1 on December 29.

Woodrow bagged a brace that day and went on to start Jokanovic's first league game in charge against Sheffield Wednesday, but only lasted 25 minutes as he fractured a metatarsal in his left foot.

The 21-year-old hasn't played since and has gone on to watch strike partners Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele take their season's tallies to 18 and 12 respectively.

In comparison Woodrow has just four goals to his name this term, but insists he is ready to fire on all cylinders as he gets back to full fitness.

Pain game: Woodrow is treated for his injury at Sheffield Wednesday

"My injury is going well and I am looking to get back to training in the next week or so, having spend two months out," said Woodrow.

"It came at a frustrating time as it came off the back of me doing pretty well and scoring twice against Rotherham, only for me to get injured not long after. So I am focussed on getting back to fitness and doing my bit to help the team climb back up the table.

"Thankfully the manager was actually at the Rotherham game when I scored twice so he remembers that and hopefully he knows what I can do.

"We have such talent in this team up front with the likes of Ross, Moussa and Matt Smith, but I want to play my part.

"I am concentrating on getting back to fitness, getting back in the team and making the manger aware of what I can do."

Back to school: Woodrow takes part in National Playground Football Day

Woodrow was speaking at Liberty Primary School in Mitcham as he took part in the inaugural National Playground Football Day.

Credit card company and League Cup sponsor Capital One established the day in the calendar to celebrate the long-standing British tradition of playground football, and Woodrow was delighted to throw his weight behind it.

"My earliest memories of kicking a ball are with my mates at school, who I'm still close with today," he added

"Getting back on the playground reminded me how much fun and significant those break times you spend in your childhood are."

Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow is supporting Capital One's National Playground Football Day, encouraging schools across the country to celebrate with a lunchtime kick-about. To find out more visit facebook.com/CapitalOneUK

Fulham reveal plans for George Cohen statue at Craven Cottage

George Cohen spent his entire career at Fulham

Fulham have commissioned a statue of former player George Cohen to mark the 50th anniversary of England's World Cup victory in 1966.

Cohen spent his entire career at Fulham, making 459 appearances between 1956 and 1969, before retiring through injury aged just 29. He subsequently became an ambassador for the club's community work.

Fulham are planning the unveiling for October, and have also launched two charity initiatives in Cohen's name as part of the fundraising process for the statue. These will aim to improve men's health through local dementia care and health preventative programmes.

Cottagers chairman Shahid Khan has pledged to match every pound raised for the statue to be erected and for Cohen's chosen causes.

"George Cohen and Craven Cottage are each at the heart of the history and tradition of Fulham Football Club," said Khan.

George Cohen was part of England's victorious 1966 World Cup squad

"Mr Cohen continues to inspire us at Fulham, as well as everyone who loves the game of football in England.

"It's only appropriate that Mr Cohen be celebrated and honoured here at Craven Cottage by the club as well as our fans who can take part in the effort to recognise a legendary member of the Fulham family and make a difference in the good causes that Mr Cohen supports."

Cohen, a right full-back who was capped 37 times by his country, played in every game of England's triumphant World Cup campaign which culminated in a 4-2 victory over West Germany at Wembley on July 30, 1966.

Fulham have commissioned a statue of George Cohen, part of England's World Cup-winning side in 1966, which will be unveiled at Craven Cottage in October.

The 76-year-old spent his entire career with the Whites, playing 459 times for the club between 1956 and 1969.

A right-back, Cohen won 37 caps for England and featured in every game as the Three Lions won the 1966 World Cup.

Cohen, who is a club ambassador for Fulham, was awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours in 2000.

A supporter-led group proposed the statue to the Championship club earlier this year and fans will be able to contribute to the cost of the work, which will be carried out by sculptor Douglas Jennings.

"We're delighted that this honour is being paid to George, a true gentleman who has given so much to the supporters of Fulham, England and the world of football," Bob Howes, who was chairman of the fan campaign group, told the club website.

Fulham already have a statue of former Fulham and England inside forward Johnny Haynes outside Craven Cottage, which was unveiled in 2008.

A statue of pop singer Michael Jackson was erected outside the ground in 2011 by previous owner Mohamed Al Fayed, but was removed in 2013 and is now in the National Football Museum in Manchester.

Fulham's American chairman Shahid Khan will match all contributions for Cohen's statue.

"It's only appropriate that George be celebrated and honoured here at Craven Cottage by the club," Khan said.

Choulay Earns U21s A Point

Potters draw away at Fulham on Wednesday night...

FULHAM U21 - 1 (Humphreys)
STOKE CITY U21 -1 (Choulay)

CHOULAY'S equaliser eight minutes from time earned Stoke City Under-21s a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night.

Whilst the first-team were in action against Newcastle, Glyn Hodges' side travelled to the Capital bidding to stay in the race for the play-offs, and a point does them no harm as they go three unbeaten in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League.

The Potters' youngsters have been out of action for over a week and half since their last fixture against West Brom, and Hodges named three changes from that team. Dan Gyollai and Joel Taylor made way for Harry Isted and Johnville Renee-Pringle, whilst Choulay replaced George Waring, who has since moved on loan to Oxford United.

City could have come away from the clash with all three points, but Dominic Telford was denied from the penalty spot by Marcus Bettinelli mid-way through the first half.

Despite that, any kind of positive result for City looked uncertain when Stephen Humphreys lashed into the bottom corner to give Fulham the lead with only 20 minutes remaining.

They had already beaten City in the reverse clash in September, but the Potters rallied and earned a point when Choulay scored from close range on 82 minutes to ensure Stoke left with something to show for their efforts.

The result keeps City fourth in the table, with the play-offs incorporating teams from second to fifth. The Under-21s are back in action next Tuesday in the Final Third Development League Cup as they host Notts County at Clayton Wood.
