Have just finished reading a book entitled the above about Joe and Gerry Baker. A good read. As a teenager Joe scored 42 goals for Hibs and asked for a £5 rise as he was filling the home ground on match days...so was sold. His brother Gerry was at St Mirren and got the same treatment for asking for £2.
Gerry gave an account of the Ipswich 10-1 defeat at Fulham, kicking off 11 times.
When they list the line ups of Joe's England honours, Alan Mullery, Tony Macedo, George Cohen and the Maestro are shown as playing for wait for it....Fulham Athletic.

I do recommend this book folks.

...In my reckoning, that made each goal worth another two shillings and fourpence halfpenny on his wages........... :005:

Ah, those canny Scots....every pound a prisoner in the pocket..... :54:

And with no chance of parole...they say the Queen blinks on their notes when taken from Scottish wallets...

These books written by old timers show how much football has changed and how our stars from the past had a rather hard time .
The books should be mandatory reading for all of today's  over paid footballers.

Filham, you said it all.  :Haynes The Maestro: Joe scored 100 hundred goals for Arsenal but there is little mention of him there.
