The angle on this story that I find rather chilling is that he was only 64 years old. By that reckoning I've had a couple of years overtime already.....!

The land that the Roosevelt Memorial stands on in Grosvenor Square was donated to the USA by the Grosvenor Estate (D of W).
The statue itself was entirely paid for by the people of the UK in 1946 when not many of them had two pennies to rub together. A maximum of 5 shillings (25p) per person was allowed. The full cost was reached in six days.
