Fulham Agree Terms With PSV Over Carlos Salcido - Report
The Mexico international is on the verge of joining Fulham...

Mexican international Carlos Salcido appears to be on his way out of Eredivisie giants PSV as the Eindhoven side have reached an agreement with Premier League side Fulham over the transfer of the defender.

A report in Eindhovens Dagblad claims that Fulham will pay €2 million for the services of the highly rated defender. The London side have yet to agree personal terms with the Mexico World Cup star.

The Cottagers are in the market for a new left back because of the expected departure of Paul Konchesky to Liverpool and manager Mark Hughes reportedly sees 30-year-old Salcido as the perfect replacement.

Salcido joined PSV from Guadalajara in the summer of 2006 and didn't waste any time in becoming an important first team member with the Eindhoven outfit. The versatile defender has made well over 100 official appearances for PSV.

He declared earlier this summer that he wanted to leave PSV and had since been linked with several Premier League sides. Liverpool, West Ham United and Birmingham City have also been linked with Salcido.

Fulham - Salcido on His Way
With rumours surrounding our left-back, Paul Konchesky, being more rife than ever, it appears that Mark Hughes is looking to act quickly to fill in the gap that is likely to be left.

Having already dived into the Eredvisie market, snapping up forward Moussa Dembele, Mark Hughes looks set to return with the capture of versatile PSV defender Carlos Salcido.

It has to presumed that if this goes through, the Mexican international, who heavily impressed during the World Cup, would be a direct replacement for Liverpool-bound Konchesky.

To add a confusing twist to the story, yesterday, Liverpool were seemingly favourites themselves to capture the World Cup star. What happened there is anybody's guess.

Perhaps he just knows we're a better football team?

Fulham - Gera Out?
Since moving to Craven Cottage on a bosman in 2008, midfielder-come-forward Zoltan Gera has suffered mixed fortunes with a wavering first year followed by a 'Player of the Season' award in the 2009/10 term.

Despite his obvious improvement and adaption here in London, it would seem new manager Mark Hughes may well consider Gera more of a bit-part player than a first teamer; something which any genuine footballer would not be happy to hear.

With that in mind it's being rumoured that both parties will seek a resolution over the coming days as to loaning the Hungarian out or simply selling him on.

AJ Auxerre have supposedly expressed an interest but it's thought Gera would prefer to stay in England.

I for one hope it's not true, but, we'll endeavor to keep you updated!

Fulham vs. Port Vale in Carling Carling Cup At Craven Cottage

Fulham play Port Vale today in the Carling Cup at Craven Cottage. The match takes place at 8PM UK Time and 3PM EST. There is no televised broadcast of this game. Port Vale are a league two team and so far this season unbeaten. They are currently fourth in their league.

There is a possibility that Fulham could be resting some starters and giving some other players a chance to play. Also, newcomers Rafik Halliche and Moussa Dembele could be playing in this match - up. Finally, Mark Schwarzer has been dealing with a back injury, and it is unclear if he will be available for this game.

Port Vale does have a very good connection to Fulham. Their manager is Micky Adams who played for the Cottagers from 1994 - 1997. He also was a player-manager from 1996 - 1997. I am sure there will be fans that will be happy to see him back at Craven Cottage.

Adams in the 1996 - 1997 season helped Fulham get promoted up to Division Two. This was a big step in the process up the ladder of divisions which would eventually lead to the Premier League.

This should be an interesting matchup for Fulham which I will be following today. Let's hope the Cottagers take care of business and move on in the Carling Cup.

Fulham are interested in Juventus veteran Mauro Camoranesi.

Camoranesi, available from Juve on a free transfer, saw a move to Birmingham City fall through earlier this week.

Tuttosport says Fulham have been contacted by Camoranesi's representatives.

Cottagers boss Mark Hughes has told Camoranesi to wait as he considers his options in the final days of the market.

Lightouse note - 32 ish and a right or central midfielder

FF2 note- nearly 34 and rubbish when we played them

One In, One Out?

With one week left in the transfer window to do business, Mark Hughes brings big Algerian defender Rafik Halliche to the Cottage, but rumours are mounting he may be on the brink of losing his international left-back...to Roy Hodgson's Liverpool.

Halliche was at Motspur Park last Friday for his medical and once international clearance arrived the deal was announced Tuesday. For £1.3 million Fulham have the 23-year old Halliche on a three year contract. Although the central defender was unable to cement a place in the Benfica back four, he has made his mark for the national side and played all three of Algeria's World Cup games in South Africa, where of course they held England to a 0-0 draw.

With the enforced six month lay-off facing Senderos after his ruptured achilles tendon, Halliche brings essential cover to our outstanding central defence partnership of Hangeland and Hughes (while Brede took Sunday's headlines, scrutiny of the match tape shows yet again Hughes positional sense, interceptions and distribution to have been immaculate). Fulham incidentally are now possibly the only Premiership club where all four of their centre-backs are current internationals. How about that!

I sense that Mark has one more signing at least up his sleeve. A lot of posters, myself included, still feel more urgency than Murphy at 32 can now inspire needs to come from the midfield. But who's the target here (if at all)?

On the down side, Mark will certainly find Liverpool's overtures to Paul Konchesky unwelcome. Any 'gentlemen's agreement' that might have existed when Roy left for Liverpool (when has that ever held sway in the Prem over the past decade?) was surely swept away by al Fayed's uncalled for damning of Roy after his departure.

Anyway, Liverpool need a left-back urgently. They've offered £3.5 million for a player with one year on his contract, and 29-year-old Paul has expressed a desire to be reunited with his old boss. Write your own headline from that. Fulham's dilemma is that left-back is the hardest position in football to fill and we currently have no obvious candidate to fit Konchesky's boots.

As ever. do let us know what you think. By the way, many thanks re the number of kind comments to date for this blog.

To Patrick may I say, as others have done, I do admire so much of Clint's game. I took a look at his form stats for last season. When we came from behind to beat Hamburg last April at the Cottage (Simon's fabulous finish under pressure and Gera's winner from a corner), Deuce and Zoltan were leading the line for the last third of that game after Bobby's ankle gave out, so he can perform as the front man no doubt. But I do feel for the way he turned his form around last season Gera should currently be getting the nod from the start. Demps will be more useful as an 'impact' player coming from the bench than vice versa. But who'd be a manager? That is a very tough call to make currently with Davies, Duff and Riise all in the mix too.

As for the inability of officials to punish United properly, Patrick it goes right back to our very first game in the Prem - also against United. Leading 1-0 (Saha 4 mins) and giving the Reds a fooball lesson, Mike Riley (known in football as United's 12th man) penalised Finnan for a legitimate challenge 25 yards out, free-kick curled in off the bar by Beckham, United back in the game go on to steal it 3-2.

Monday's Sky Sports had ex-ref Dermot Gallagaher in the studio for analysis. He did not mince his words. 'Vidic shirt tug, clear penalty, impossible for the officials to miss. United penalty, totally against the spirit of the game. Duff attempts to hook clear, ball ricohets onto his arm, no intent, entirely accidental - no penalty!'

THANK YOU MR. WALTON

Angry Pulis blocks Begovic's Chelsea move

Furious Tony Pulis says he will block Asmir Begovic's dream move to Chelsea after the want-away keeper refused to play in his side's Carling Cup win against Shrewsbury on Tuesday night.

The Potters boss revealed that Begovic had told him on the morning of the match that he was unsettled by talk of becoming Petr Cech's No.2 at Stamford Bridge and subsequently he was not mentally fit to face the Shrews.

Angry Pulis said: "We won't be giving him away and doing a deal because of what he has done.

"I do not think our chairman Peter Coates will be pushed around. Obviously people have been blowing in his [Begovic's] ear.

"We will sit down and talk to him. I'm not happy with it. The club pay his wages and he has a responsibility to play for this football club. There is plenty of talking to do."

Begovic's startling decision came just a day after he said of the potential move: "Maybe there is people talking and stories being written, but at the end of the day you come to work and do your job."

Begovic has also been linked with Fulham as a possible replacement for Mark Schwarzer should the veteran complete his much-discussed move to Arsenal.
