I noted reading have missed five penalties this season perhaps the penalty spot needs to be moved closer

I think we just need to invite Alan Shearer and Matt Le Tissier to teach Mr Martin (or whoever) how you do take them so that four out of five hit the front of the net.....

Well players like McCormack and Berbatov and many others do not seem to have much trouble. I would suggest that the players who are failing with their own penalty taking, have a good look at themselves, Grow a pair, and practice more.

Birmingham 8 scored from 9, Brighton 6 from 7 don't seem to have much of a problem.

I think they have missed 6 and scored 5 of these on rebound. Obviously been practicing follow ups !

...and they were kicking a concrete block during the winter. They might have burst the net with today's plastic coated balloons....

Its actually true, across Europe this season only 70℅ have been converted, while in Champions League less than half only 42℅ have gone in.
Are Goalies getting better,or have the laws made it easier for them?

My guess is that the club scouts and video technology are part of the cause. Clubs can track where players tend to place their penalties. I imagine a lot of goalkeepers will look at this before matches.
Players need to vary where they place their penalties more.
It does help to hit it hard though as these are hard to save even if the keeper guesses right.

I strongly believe that now that keepers are allowed to move before the ball is kicked, when previously they were penalised for this and the kick retaken, it's much harder to score a pen, because the keepers can move in anticipation.

Someone like Berba is  always successful, because he confuses the keeper, so he moves the wrong way, then  puts the ball in the other side of the goal. But not many have the calmness and skill to take them like that.

Martin scored against Barnsley because the keeper went the wrong way, but his next two the keeper moved the right way, in anticipation, and saved them.

It used to be very unusual for a pen to be saved, but now it's fairly common.
But pro players should still be expected to score from the spot.

Goalies are getting more wise with the penalty down the middle

its a combination of things all relating to keepers. Law changes, technology, bespoke coaching, good old fashioned homework and training, training and training. Most Clubs now have a keeper(s) coach who works on everything from catching under pressure, distribution and simply stopping the ball crossing the line. You can even do a high end coaching for keepers course with the FA these days and when I did my badges keeper sessions were always part of the curriculum. The law changes are outrageously flouted sometimes but I always find it a crying shame when a good save is listed as a miss. The QPR fella saved the penalty, legs like springs, strong arm and good hands and all that, but it was classed as a miss.
Athletes certainly but I am not sure I buy into the "aren't keeper bigger these days" debate.

No one in our history has had as much trouble as the present squad surely. The only fact that has to be addressed is that e have a squad of players incapable of hitting a good shot on goal.
