Lee Johnson gives Bristol City players warning ahead of Fulham showdown

Lee Johnson has warned his Bristol City players that they risk coming unstuck if they allow Fulham to strut their stuff in tonight's big Championship showdown at Ashton Gate.

The Cottagers arrive in BS3 with a reputation for playing open, enterprising attacking football, and City's head coach will select a side capable of disrupting the visitors.

Fulham dominated the first half when the sides last met in September, but were unable to translate chances into goals. City wrested control of the midfield after the break and ended up winning the game comfortably 4-0.

Intent upon opening a five-point gap on the relegation places, Johnson will send his team out with express instructions to be in their opponents' faces.

He said: "They are a very good side and they have a lot of top players who have played in the Premier League. If we stand off t6hem and allow them to play, then that is what they'll do.

"It's a big challenge for us. They are in the top half of the division and it is one of those games where we have to start on the front foot."

Johnson travelled to the capital to watch Fulham in action against Tottenham in the FA Cup on Sunday. He added: "We have to make sure we disrupt their rhythm. By doing that, we should be able to get some rhythm of our own.

"If we can do that, then hopefully we can give ourselves a platform to go on and win the game."

Bristol City must not allow Fulham to strut their stuff

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson has told the Bristol Post that they must not allow Fulham to strut their stuff if they want to win their upcoming game.

The Robins are set to take on Fulham in what could be an exciting clash, though the West Country side need a win more than ever. They have been on a bad run of form, with some fans calling for Johnson to be sacked, which has seen them drop to 21st in the Sky Bet Championship table, just two points above Wigan Athletic in the relegation zone.

And now as they look to pull away from the relegation battle they have found themselves in, they will have to get a win against a Fulham side they comfortably beat back in September, but now cut an imposing figure as they look to break into the play-off places. And Johnson has said the key to winning the game is to stop Fulham from getting into their groove and playing the expansive football they are known for.

He said: "They are a very good side and they have a lot of top players who have played in the Premier League. If we stand off them and allow them to play, then that is what they'll do."
