A stat for those who don't think fatigue is becoming a factor

I was told last night in the pub that our midfield trio have started every game together since October against Villa away when Cairney was on the bench.

That's a long time to not rotate a midfield and could become an issue as we approach games every few days after the internationals.

Wasn't a problem on Saturday was it

They scored towards the end.

Do you not think it's an interesting stat and a bit of a worrying one?

I think it's both a bit of a problem, and a huge benefit.  Arguably a problem for Johansen for he of the 3 expends a huge amount of energy each game as a real box to box player.  McDonald less so but he takes (and gives) lots of knocks.  Cairney sometimes frustrates me for the way he walks around (I'm not criticising his contribution, just wishing that some times he played the ball more quickly) but that presumably helps him conserve long-term energy levels.   On balance, I'd rather they stayed as they are, allowing for some games where one of them is subbed usually approx 3/4 the way through.

Dannyboi, it would be interesting to listen to Alan Mullery's view on your suggestion that that our midfield may be in need of a rest.
Remember that in our 1975 cup final season Alan played in all 42 league games as well as all 12 FA cup games plus a league cup game. At the time Alan was older than any player in our present midfield.
