Leeds United boss Garry Monk looking forward to hunting down Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham for play-off place

Leeds United dropped out of the Championship's play-off places for the first time since November and now boss Garry Monk says he relishing the challenge of 'going on the hunt' a top six spot.

Leeds United dropped out of the Championship's play-off places for the first time since November and now boss Garry Monk says he relishing the challenge of 'going on the hunt' a top six spot. Sheffield Wednesday moved up to fifth after victory at QPR and Fulham saw off Aston Villa, meaning that Leeds' defeat to Wolves saw them slip to seventh. But Monk says it could now be easier for his side to chase the place, rather than cling on as they have since before the turn of the year. "We're disappointed with that result," he said. "We didn't want that to happen at this stage of the season. "But we've had the mentality for so long where we've been in the play-offs quite comfortably and have kind of been in that protective mode of trying to stay in there.

"But we've had the mentality for so long where we've been in the play-offs quite comfortably and have kind of been in that protective mode of trying to stay in there. "Now we have to change that mentality to be a team that goes on the hunt and lets it all go. It's still a really good situation for us. We've got no time to feel sorry for ourselves, that doesn't get you anywhere. "This is the interesting part. We spent so long in there with the points advantage and we don't have that luxury anymore. "Now we have to go on the hunt. Sometimes it's easier and there's less pressure when you're on the hunt. When you're in there, there's a different pressure.

"These are three of the biggest games of our lives." Still to play Sheffield Wednesday: Derby (H), Ipswich (A), Fulham (H) Fulham: Huddersfield Town (A), Brentford (H), Sheffield Wednesday (A)

Leeds United: Burton (A), Norwich City (H), Wigan (A)

Jedinak's Villa foiled by Fulham

Caltex Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak played a full 90 minutes as his Aston Villa side slumped to a second successive defeat in the Championship overnight.

Villa went down 3-1 at Fulham on a tough night for the visiting players.

Villa played most of the game with ten men after Ivorian striker Jonathan Kodjia was sent off for appearing to kick out at an opponent during a tussle in the 22nd minute.

Aston Villa are 12th in the Championship with three games remaining.

Meanwhile, former Sydney FC fullback Alex Gersbach played a full 90 minutes as Rosenborg won 1-0 at bottom-placed Viking in the Eliteserien.

Gersbach has played every minute of the season so far.

Aluko: Delighted To Receive Man Of The Match Award Vs Villa

Nigerian forward Sone Aluko has expressed his delight after winning the Man-of-the-Match award in Fulham's 3-1 home win against Aston Villa in the English Championship on Monday.

Is David Bates' Rangers breakthrough bad news for Fulham-linked Rob Kiernan?

Rangers' Rob Kiernan was linked with Fulham in January - and his future may be even more uncertain with David Bates starring in his absence.

While 18-year-old left-back Myles Beerman may be the apple of Rangers' fans eyes after bursting onto the scene with a string of fine performances in recent weeks, the contribution of his fellow newcomer should not be overlooked.

Since David Bates made his Rangers' bow in the goalless draw with Kilmarnock at the start of the month, Pedro Caixinha's side have not conceded a single goal. The 20-year-old, who moved to Rangers on a permanent deal from Raith Rovers in January, has been one of the main beneficiaries of Caixinha's arrival.

After all, he was barely given a sniff under previous manager Mark Warburton. And despite appearing a little jittery on occasions, his desire to play out from the back resulting in a few scares, Bates is now one of the first names on the team-sheet.

And this could have major repercussions for one Rob Kiernan. The 26-year-old has been criticised in some quarters following a number of shaky defensive performances this season and, after being kept on the sidelines in recent weeks by a calf injury, could return to find that his place in the starting XI has been nabbed by young Bates.

The Daily Mail claimed in January that Fulham were interested in making a £2 million move for Kiernan who, at the time, was an undisputed starter under Mark Warburton. And with Chelsea loanee Tomas Kalas seemingly unlikely to remain at Craven Cottage beyond the end of the season, Fulham could still be in the market for a new defender in the summer.

Fulham 3-1 Aston Villa: Teenage sensation Ryan Sessegnon scores again as Cottagers boost play-off hopes against 10-man visitors

16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon opened scoring with scruffy goal at back post
Jonathan Kodjia sent off after just 23 minutes for kicking out at Ryan Fredericks
Jack Grealish fired equaliser for 10-men with sensational curled finish
Sone Aluko restored advantage with deflected volley beating Sam Johnstone
Neeskens Kebano rifled in Fulham's third as visitors began to tire late on

Slavisa Jokanovic's Fulham pride themselves on being the Championship's 'Great Entertainers', but at this stage of the season it doesn't matter how the wins come.

This was far from a vintage performance against 10-man Aston Villa but there won't be too many complaints as goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Sone Aluko and Neeskens Kebano kept them firmly in the play-off hunt.

But it wasn't all as straightforward as the scoreline might suggest, and when Jack Grealish scored a screamer just after half-time it looked as though Villa might make light of Jonathan Kodjia's stupid red card for kicking out at Ryan Fredericks.

I was just about to put my own comment. That top picture really gives a good picture of the neutral end. There is clearly some Fulham, lots of neutrals and quite a few villa.
There's a couple of Villa you just know are trying really hard to hold in their dogs abuse. Bloke in grey jumper and white baseball cap, he is desperate to start giving the old anchor sign....
